What a great comparison video, thanks for your honesty!! As you say, your van is your home from home and when at home you’d go out for a meal occasionally too! Thanks for your great videos. Pete & Nicky
Thank you for watching Pete & Nicky! We never tally up how much we spend and it shocked us! The cocktails were nice though 😂😂 The van is home. The van has Roxy and she is worth the extra money! Thank you for your kind feedback 💗💗 Rachel & David
Hi guys. A nice video and a great comparison. It also highlights why Pub stops are our favourite. We would usually pay 35-40 for dinner (without alcohol or pudding) and our night stopover is Free of charge and in our own space 😊
We love pub stopovers too! There is something so good about out parking up and pottering to the pub for dinner then curling back up in the van 🚐 Our van and own space wins hands down! Thank you for watching & commenting 🩷🩷 Rachel & David 🩷
Good work there David and Rachel very interesting we enjoy caravaning and our campervan but sometimes it's just nice to have a change a good example is we rent a small bungalow in a beautiful part of Cornwall off peak towards the end of March it's actually cheaper than towing a van down and pitching it full heating and no weather worries , enjoyed your film 👌 Glyn
Thank you Glyn Ohhhhh your bungalow sounds perfect. It’s a shame it’s cheaper to do that mind. In saying that we are going to a wedding next month and we are staying in an air bnb due to cost / time etc Thanks for watching and commenting as ever Rachel & David 💗
Hi David and Rachel, thanks for another great video. I'm sure you're the same, but we just love the freedom that the motorhome gives compared to hotels, regardless of cost. I think if our choice of holiday was cost driven, then we would probably end up in hotels. Even if you use free park-ups you still have the cost of ownership for a motorhome to factor in. I guess you know how much your own motorhome has cost you in depreciation, servicing, repairs etc over three years and how many nights you've spent away, so could calculate a cost of ownership per night. Please don't think I'm critisicing, I'm not and know that the video is just a fun comparison, which we very much enjoyed.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🩷 we agree we love the freedom of the van much more than staying in a hotel x We were just curious since we were at the site and there being a hotel so close. It did make us agree not to count costs ever again though! Rachel & David 💗
What a great comparison video, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were remembering our first camping prices of £5.00 a pitch and .10p tin of beans many years ago ha ha
Thank you for watching and commenting David 💗 They were the days! When we had the motorhome sites were max £15 that was for a top notch all bells and whistle site! I think it’s the food cost that shocked me more! We have taken the decision never to count up again it’s too scary 😂 Rachel & David 💗
Hiya David and Rachel. We use the inn collection group between November and March winter specials break. Bed and breakfast+ 2 Course evening meal for 99 pounds for the 2 of us at most of their hotels. 2 course evening meal value is 30 pounds per person good value we're going to the swan at Grasmere next week. We went to the Black swan at Helmsley before Xmas truly magical all lit up. From Laddo & Lasso in Workington Malcolm and Sheila.
Hi Malcolm & Sheila ohhh we like the Inn Collection group. The one we went to at Christmas at Seahouses with the tomatoe man was part of that group. Good value. We also like the pheasant @ Bassenthwaite I hope you are both well xxx Rachel & David 💗
Thank you for watching & commenting! Vans - I dream vans - can’t wait till we are sorted. I was hoping those nice people @ Kaktus might of donated one of their vans to us 😂😂 Rachel & David 💗
It's an interesting comparison ifyou eat out in stead of cooking in the van. However, I don't have my evening meal out and only have coffee for breakfast, I'm a member of both clubs so pay members fees or I stay on Aires, stopovers or CLs. So even taking in the cost of the food I buy in a shop, it's always going to be cheaper to go away in my campervan. Besides, I prefer the freedom and the peace. X
Thank you for watching and commenting 🩷🩷 We much prefer the van 🚐 despite of costs We have decided it’s better not knowing what we spend 😂 Rachel & David 💗
Morning thank you for watching and commenting. 💗 Despite it costing slightly more we would still chose the van anyway We much prefer independent pubs too Rachel & David 💗
That was a very interesting video and I was surprised by the costs. I have to say we rarely eat out when we are away in Wanda. We take a treat breakfast eg croissant and jam. For lunch we generally have a wrap or sandwich in Wanda or as a picnic. We do treat ourselves to coffee and cake out sometimes. Tea is always something simple eg sweet and sour chicken and rice from jar and packets. I have been known to take scones, cream and jam especially if we are at a remote campsite. Take care Gill
Morning Gill thank you for watching & commenting as ever 💗💗 I think it was a useful exercise for us as we hadn’t tallied up how much we spent in totality before so belt tightened now we know. I always find meals easier in summer when we can sit out the van and BBQ or do something on the Cadac Rachel & David 💗💗
Morning guys! Thank you for watching 👀 & commenting. 💗💗 Based on the results of this David has booked the Premier Inn for the NEC in February but remembered to add the meal deal on when he booked 🙌 Rachel & David 💗💗
Hi Rachel and David, interesting. I think breakfast is the best value meal when out and about! It’s always near £50 for a main and a drink these days. I prefer to do our own evening meal in the van but not always from scratch😂. Hoping to visit the Whitewater site again soon. New van…..exciting🙂
Thanks Ruth. David’s chicken things looked pitiful 😂😂 I think we need to cook more or never count up again as I genuinely had no idea how much we spent! A decent breakfast sees you through lunchtime anyway so I tend to agree re value plus Roxy likes to share 😂 Ohhhh I love White water - great site! Rachel & David
Interesting comparison guys. I’m with you on using your own van, especially for my dogs being part of my family. Also, had you taken advantage of the food offer would it not have brought the total cost of campsite + food below staying at the Premier Inn + food deal??
Thank you for watching & commenting! 💗100% agreed Roxy like your dogs are an important part of the family and we would rather have her with us plus we like our own space! Yes it would have brought the cost down plus we have subsequently been told that people staying on the site also get 10% off food and drink in the pub. I did go to reception & ask if the pub was dog friendly these days but nobody mentioned a discount and I didn’t see the poster in the door 😡 Rachel & David 💗
@@LeisureBit I’m the same as you regarding own space and dogs. Irrespective of seeing the poster or not, it wasn’t very good customer service that they didn’t highlight to you in person that a discount applies! Seems to me that either the person on reception didn’t know what was available or simply couldn’t be bothered - neither of which in my book is acceptable. Take care guys 👍🐾
It's a very interesting video. We love Rowntree Park York, and go at least once a year, it's probably one of the clubs most expensive sites. But there's no way that a Premier Inn in the city centre will be cheaper than a pitch. I've also read that parking charges in the city are now ridiculous, so that's another reason to go in our caravan. We also use our Tesco vouchers to get cheap meals at some of the chain restaurants in town, and being tight Yorkshire folk there's always Wetherspoons to fall back on. 😂😂
Morning thank you for watching & commenting 💗 100% agree re locations & city centres being more expensive for accommodation & parking hence the cost of Rowntree park You can’t beat the odd trip to a Spoons as long as you set off early enough to find the facilities 😂😂 Rachel & David 💗💗
Great idea.........get a few more selling their vans and using budget hotels instead, I'd welcome that. In fact I'd like to see it gaining some more momentum, it would make stays at sites far more peaceful if less van owners used them at peak times. Less neighbouring vans means less whinging about pitch prices to have to listen to........WIN WIN!...........Great video guys
😂😂😂😂😂 that made me laugh 😂😂😂😂😂 the price of the hotels would shoot up too so they would be back. All nestled next to you in comfort 😂😂😂😂 Thanks for watching & commenting and making me chuckle Rachel & David 💗
It’s complex when you consider that given the variance in cost, for example at peak cost, the ‘same’ van as ours would over 30k more expensive, so it depends when vans are bought. It’s a very good point but it’s dependant individually on the van you have, when you purchased it (as some people would get more than they paid now, years on). Under normal circumstances you would expect £x thousand depreciation though. All the best, David
Now David ate you saying its more expensive to take Rachel with you 😂😂. I know what you mean regards offers and deals etc and to be honest I don't tally up the spend - if we want to do something we just do it and enjoy 😉. Interesting to hear your planning / arrangements for the new van, I know how we looked and searched for ours. Thanks again 👍

Camp sites fees has gone ridiculous should be no more than £20 a night . It’s a piece of dirt . That equates to £600 a months that’s rent on a flat
There are still plenty of sites under £20/night if you don't have electric and a few with.
