I happened upon some very inexpensive baby velvet yarn in a bin at my grocery store and began searching for what I could do with it! I found your video - just what I needed! I'm not experienced with crochet but I picked it up easily with your tutorial. Thanks again!
I love working with this yarn , I made 3 of these but did a little different, love the stitch . I used a K size hook and I crocheted this scarf going lengthwise , I made a chain for however long I wanted it , then crocheted about 12 rows or however wide I wanted it , It worked up in no time at all I also then added on both ends a Pom Pom boarder . It came out so nice . I know I thanked you in in earlier post but thank you again I really do enjoy your tutorials!
My family is doing a homemade Christmas this year and I thought I'd try out a beginner crochet project. My request, as a super beginner, is a video that tells me how to hold the yarn as I'm working. I'm fumbling all around and it would be super convenient to hear some advice on how to hold the yarn as I'm starting this very first project. 😊 other than that, your explanations are extremely helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to walk us beginners through this beautiful scarf project!
That sounds like an excellent idea for Christmas! The best advice I can give when holding yarn is just to see what feels comfortable for you. Everyone holds the yarn (and even hook) differently, so it's really all about personal preference. For me, I like to have my yarn on the left-hand side of me, and the yarn strand in between my left middle finger and index finger. Basically the yarn is just sitting over my index finger. I hope that helps! I wish you luck on your very first project! How exciting!!
Thank you! Your clear instructions really helped me! I lose track of stitch counts and cannot get my tension even... But I love this yarn and wanted to send something warm and fluffy to my granddaughter. This yarn is tricky but it hides a lot of my foibles and combined with your instructions my warm fluffy gift is almost done!💖💖
This is amazing! I’ve had two skeins of black velvet baby yarn that I just couldn’t get to work on any project I tried. The wide half double stitch makes it nice and neat and it doesn’t come loose with loops sticking out all over. Thank you!!
Love this! I am looking forward to trying the velvet yarn, and I have always liked the HDC because it is so easy. Thanks again for another great video!
Beautiful, using a blush pink chenille yarn I picked up in a store sale, started this scarf & am loving it, just need to find matching hat & handwarmers ☺
I was getting so disgusted with the velvet yarn and trying different patterns and I was ready to throw out my ball of yarn and I found your video which helped me a lot and now I am continuing to crochet with the velvet you’re in again thanks to you👍
I am currently halfway through mine using Premier Yarns Parfait in a gorgeous burgundy to match the lining of my coat. I am loving how easy and quick this works up . Thanks for sharing such an amazing pattern.
Thank You for this easy velvet scarf stitch. I had been working the mini bean stitch but it was not it was not a good stitch because the yarn was a blended navy & lit blue in color and I wasn't able to see the 3 stitch to go into. THIS STITVH IS AWESOME AND i THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN FOR THIS STITCH.
This is absolutely stunning! I’ve never worked with velvet yarn before, but the half double crochet is my favorite stitch so I wanted to try it. I bought this exact yarn, only the color I used was blackbird, to match my coat. Now I’m totally in love with this velvet yarn. I’d love to make a throw blanket with it, in this exact pattern. Could please try and tell me about how many chains I’d need for a small throw? Thank you, Amanda! BTW, your tutorials are the best, and are the only ones I have any success with. 🙂Thanks again!
Thank you for your kind words! 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoyed this tutorial. Velvet yarn was new to me too, but I loved the feel of it as I was working with it. For the amount of chains, I would maybe try 130-140 chains. You can lay it across your bed to see if this is the width you’d like before continuing with the pattern. Hope it helps!
Beautiful as always, I have lots of velvet yarn, love it, wondering because bernat velvet is a 5 weight can I just go up a hook size? Or should I buy the baby velvet which I think is a 4 weight Either way I very much want to make this scarf, thanks Merry Christmas to you and yours 😍👍
You can absolutely use regular bernat velvet yarn. I would use the recommended hook size on the label. If you want your scarf to be the same size as mine, you may want to use less chains, but it’s all personal preference. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 🎄😊
I just made a slouchy hat with Bernat’s crushed velvet, 5 weight, using single crochets and a 6mm hook, and it turned out well. Thank you, Amanda, for this pattern! I think I’m going to make a matching scarf to my new hat with it! 🥰🧣 Happy Christmas to all! 😊🎄✨
This is my first crochet project and your tutorial is very very good. It's been hard to find one that I truly understand. However I can't stop mine from curving into a "c". Any advice? I can't for the life of me figure it out.
I’m having issues with keeping the end stitches aligned together in a straight line. It starts off as my desired length but the more rows I add the smaller it’ll get, making it looking more like a beanie rather than a long scarf 😢
I would use a stitch marker in the very first and last stitch in each row. That way you don’t miss a stitch. As you make more rows, you can move up the stitch markers. Hope that helps!
@@AmandaCrochets Oh,my friend got me a velvet yarn I made a this scarf but I ran out of yarn 😞 And velvet yarn is not a common choice for the place I live
It sounds like you're adding stitches to the ends of your scarf. I suggest using stitch markers in the very first and last stitch of each row to help keep those ends even.
Just got myself a velvet yarn for scarf for my boyfriend and your tutorial really helped me since I'm not knitting.
I'm glad my tutorial helped :)
I made a scarf with a pink velvet yarn. It came out so beautifully. Thank you so much for the pattern and easy tutorial. Love from India❤️🇮🇳
How beautiful! You’re very welcome for the tutorial 😊🧶
Hey can you please tell me from did you get this yarn in India plz share the website or link .??
@@shailajoseph8386 I got it from Canada. But, I think it is available at yarn shops and craft stores across the metro cities.

Can you make a blanket with this?
Yes, you can, but be advised that most velvet yarns are hand wash only.
@@AmandaCrochets Yes and I’m so glad you mentioned this….but can I use this stitch to make a blanket? I love the stitch 🌸
Do you chain at the end of each row?
Yes you will chain after every row
I don’t understand I’m following the directions but like it’s lumpy when I try to make is thicker any tips?
You might have to go up a hook size if your tension is a little too tight. Try that and see if that helps :)
This is my first crochet project and your tutorial is very very good. It's been hard to find one that I truly understand. However I can't stop mine from curving into a "c". Any advice? I can't for the life of me figure it out.
If your project is curving, it’s possible your chain is too tight. I recommend going up a hook size to see if that helps. 😊

Is this a adult scarf
Yes this is, but you can always customize this to make it bigger or smaller.
@@AmandaCrochets Oh,my friend got me a velvet yarn I made a this scarf but I ran out of yarn 😞
And velvet yarn is not a common choice for the place I live
@@sheejasabu1584 it’s possible the amount of yards/ounces of that velvet yarn was different than the yarn I was using. I’m sorry that happened.
Why does my scarf gets wider as I continue 😭
It sounds like you're adding stitches to the ends of your scarf. I suggest using stitch markers in the very first and last stitch of each row to help keep those ends even.
