    Certainly sounds like that will happen. However, in regards to what you said about Dark Magic being okay so long as it's for the right cause, you have to remember that it also has a corrupting and addictive effect on it's practitioners. Claudia isn't displaying symptoms yet because she's been using for a relatively short time, and not with a terrible amount of frequency. Viren, on the other hand...well, we all saw the butterfly scene and what happened to him after he trapped Runaan in the coin. In addition to the inner turmoil this will cause within the group if Callum turns to Dark Magic, it will also cause turmoil within himself as he struggles with the urge to continue use of it, both due to it's addictive effects and his own insecurities(which will no doubt resurface now that he's lost the primal stone.

    • @TheoryPop
      @TheoryPop  5 лет назад +8

      Ah, I wasn't clear there. That was intended to be from Callum's perspective: he hasn't seen any of the negative effects Dark magic has on the practitioner yet. He considers Claudia a nice person, and doesn't share the same distaste for Dark magic as Harrow does.

Meaning just have something that's connected to the six primal sources so with Azymondias close to the sky primal source use wind and lightning spells aspiro and fulminus plus learn sun and moon spells and boom spell cast. Just need earth star and ocean objects and creatures to learn those spells. Plus feeling Ellis and Ava will join operation xadia exodus since Zym is hatched all the help they can get.

    I mean even before what we saw at the end of the second season, I knew that Callum would forge a Primal connection. It flat out stated that Aravos had mastered all the forms of magic, while all magic creatures are born with only one primal connection. And given that Callums cube belonged the Aravos himself, it’s probably safe to assume there’s a strong connection between the two, even if it’s only metaphorical. Aravos’s words of “Those who fail tests of love are mere animals.” Is a very interesting thing for a villain to say... it makes me thing that once he may not have been so different a character to the hopeful young man Callum is now.
    But fallen heroes always make the most terrifying villains of all.

    • @TheoryPop
      @TheoryPop  5 лет назад +3

      Yeah, it was fairly clear that Callum would reject Dark Magic in the long run and find a way to use Primal magic, but the fact remains that the temptation was there. The loss of identity, questioning of his own role, his insecurity, are all points that came up during the season. Callum went to far as to use Dark Magic. If even only the once, he still used it, and for that brief and terrible moment, he was a Dark Mage. At that point, he was even more Dark Mage than a Primal one, since he never actually had an internal connection to the Arcanum until the end of the season and relied on the Primal Stone to fuel his power before that.

    Had the plot not made him a sky mage, odds are, he would've become a dark mage in time. After all, finding his purpose in magic through the primal stone and having all that power at his finger tips, just to lose it all, that would've been too much of a setback for anyone, especially when there's a known alternative available. Over time, as the challenges begin the mount, a quick path to power would've proved too tempting. In hindsight, as much as it made sense for the magical races to cast out humans over the use of dark magic, after all, it literally uses their life essence and body parts as fuel. Any group thus targeted would've been horrifed. It made equal sense for humans to adopt it; not been naturally adapt at primal magic, humanity would've been always at a disadvantage compared to magical races. Dark magic provided a quick path to close that gap.

    It would be quite interesting to learn that if Callum uses dark magic, that it ends up as him being able to draw from anything’s primal source and eventually make an eighth school that I’m just going to call “Rainbow”. The seventh being dark, The eighth would be the one to draw from every source of magic around him and a spell like Fulminis might also have a side effect of summoning a wave behind the person, then have the earth encase them, then be blinded by the rays of the sun or have the entire group turn invisible because of the moon in spite of its phases. It’d be cool to see that if that happens. But you could argue that that’d be too much like avatar, which I wouldn’t mind.

    • @TheoryPop
      @TheoryPop  5 лет назад +1

      An interesting idea, this eighth school of magic could be powerful. Maybe that'll have something to do with the cube that had each of the primal symbols on it: reach somewhere where every symbol glows, showing there is each of the primal sources available, and maybe at that point use them all at once?

    Humans learned how to use magic prior to the discovery of dark magic, and they probably learned it from the elves and dragons back in Xadia, where Callum is now headed.
    We've already seen Claudia casting dark magic. It is possible that she will be the one to practice more and more dark magic and become corrupted like her father. With the "new dark mage" role already filled by Claudia, that frees Callum to follow a different path. His crush on Claudia could make it harder for him to accept her increasing corruption and create dramatic tension.

    Ok, hold on, 5:34 how do you know? Viren said it is a shortcut doesn't mean it is less difficult to learn, a primal stone is a shortcut that makes primal magics way easier to cast, with dark magic instead of a primal stone in the caster's hand, it is magical creature or remnants of it (Viren's staff seemed to serve a similar function in the intro). The major difference other than the effects between primal and dark magic is that dark magic comes out the source then courses through the caster's body first before being released whereas primal magic is completely external, referencing the scene Callum tossed the sky primal stone and the electricity was cut off immediately. Rayla said that almost everything (including the elves) in Xadia is imbued with magic; Claudia used Xadian Wolves' dust to initiate that smoke spell making smoky Xadian wolves/ Viren using probably Xadian butterfly to well... maintain his appearance, maybe the human side of the continent lacks Xadian(magical) creatures (Soren and Claudia traversed into an obscure cave looking for them) and human dark mages have to "import" them from Xadia...no wonder the elves drove the humans away, dark mages in Xadia would be almost invincible because they are surrounded by Xadian animals they can use to power their magic.

    • @TheoryPop
      @TheoryPop  5 лет назад +7

      As Dark Magic is a shortcut, that would inherently imply that it is easier to practice and learn than the traditional 6 primal methods. The creators have said multiple times in various interviews and across Twitter that Dark magic was created by a human as a method of bypassing the years of study required to attune to and practice "regular" magic. For example, Aaron Ehasz stated in an interview with Animation Magazine: “These powers were arcane and difficult to learn, so humans had to apprentice with a wizard for years,” he says. “But then, in this world, someone came up with a quick, dirty shortcut that extracts this magic from creatures such as unicorns and griffins for a quick, powerful burst." Dark Magic is literally described as a quicker way of practicing magic than apprenticing to an experienced mage for years. It's a shortcut. Now, I did not include this in the video as I had discussed in some length the role of magic within The Dragon Prince in a previous video, however I will concede that for clarity's sake it would have been worth bringing up again. I genuinely thought that, by this point, it was generally accepted that Dark magic had been created as a shortcut because that was easier than trying to attune to and learn to manipulate the pure, prime sources. But you are absolutely right that the Elves' exiling the humans was a 'panic response' to humans learning dark magic. Surrounded as they would be by fuel supplies for their spells, that sounds like humans would have had the capability of bringing utter ruin to Xadia. Thank you very much for watching and commenting back on the video, it's much appreciated!

    Would it be cool if they made Dark Magic OK to use? Take for example the Philosopher Stones from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. Alfonso used a Stone which contained human transmutized souls. Basically using human lives as energy to fight his enemy. The way they legitimized it is that fighting Alfonso's enemies is what the Souls want and in the end would give them peace.
    Probably somewhere down the series in Dragon Prince we could see Callum harness animals' energy but they're willing to give it like a Spirit Bomb from Dragon Ball Z. Probably Callum can harness Zin's baby dragon energy in order to use Sky Magic again. Just a thought.

      I think it’ll be Callum trying to work out if the ends justify the means. If he uses Dark Magic with good intentions, then does that mean it’s bad? Callum himself was subjected to a Dark magic spell by Viren, but his friendship and attraction to Claudia may obscure his judgement on this.

    [SPOILER}
    6:50 fast forward to season 3 with Claudia gleefully watching as her father is about to murder Ezren.

    • @TheoryPop

      Considering she still considered Ezran a friend at the beginning of the season, it’s a real change of character for her!

      She knew her father wanted the princes dead, Soren told her, but she went into denial mode.
      Also, how do we know for sure that Viren was an incorporeal illusion? For all we know, it could by a solid illusion, akin to Naruto shadow clones.
      Regardless, she was mega pissed when Soren killed the illusion Viren and she will definately be even angrier after having to resurrect her father after his failed attempt to kill the dragon prince.

      @@TheZombiesAreComing Back then, but the motivation was to prevent a child king and get the egg, which would not be aided by killing Ezran by that point in time (the dragon was not there and Viren was king). Viren has no reason to kill Ezran in that scene.
      Rember the princes are close enough to Viren's family, so he won't kill them without a strong reason.

      You give Viren too much credit, he is a full blown psychopath, a liar, and a deceiver. He desires power and is willing to use any and all means to acquire it, including murding his "best friends" kids. The excuses he gives are all lies in attempts to get others to go along with his schemes.

       Theory Pop Showing off... Losing control... (and lack of practice / first timer) i see some parallels here...
      Also Callum did save Rayla from those leeches, but with the orb gone, it would be intresting thing to explore,
      ! Warning pure speculation ! Also spoiler alert.
      Callum saving Rayla again using dark magic, since his rare orb was gone, (pretty good deal having Zym instead of the orb and also reveals something about Callum's character, he is willing to sacrafice himself and his assets including the power of the orb, that was pretty big Ego boost for him in the first season. almost pollar opposite of lord Viren who only wishes to sease any magical artifacts and power)
      insteand that would be quite the moral dillema. for bolt of them and the value of life. since Callum is clearly more that willing to save those he considers close to him. How far will he reach when push comes to shove...
      it kinda reminds me for Dragon Age (blood mage) that also leech or kill other living beings in order to aqure temporary power surge.

    • @TheoryPop
      @TheoryPop  5 лет назад +2

      Definitely can draw the comparison there, yeah. I think Callum using Dark Magic to save Rayla would absolutely bring up some interesting moral questions, and is exactly the kind of deeper character interaction I'd love to see in future seasons of the show!
