both Nilsson and Hotter are supreme singers, in Wagner repertoire and the rest they sang as well.

This EMI taping was one of Nilsson's first and she was not reluctant to praise Legge as producer. I suspect that she was less fond of Culshaw who who produced all the Wagner for Decca and was clearly in love with the Vienna Philharmonic and the oceans of sound she had to compete with. Of course Culshaw had as his disposal the best Wagner singers of his generation and was able to make a landmark recording of the Ring. Whether Legge could have been able to match singer for singer one can only speculate. If I could only have one complete Ring I would choose the 1953 Kraus Bayreuth performance.
