Visiting the REAL Wyoming (Pinedale): History, Green River Lakes, Pitchfork Fondue, & MORE!

- After two months in Colorado, we've headed a little north to Wyoming, which is the first major destination we visited when we hit the road full time in our van back in August 2019. But this time, for our few adventures here, we're focusing on spots outside of the national parks. And first up, Pinedale, WY, whose slogan is "the REAL Wyoming" and is known for its authenticity, laid back and slower pace of life, gorgeous nature and endless outdoor activities, and more.
We spent two amazing days in the area hiking, learning its history, kayaking, exploring town, and going to a unique outdoor cookout. It was a blast!

National Parks are great obviously, but this is the content I live for. There is just so much in this country to see and these little "holes in the wall" are my absolute favorites. And that meal look delicious. I haven't been to Wyoming yet so can't wait to see more.
We couldn’t agree more! We love the NPs, but they are so busy these days and we have found we enjoy these areas outside of them even more!
Oh boy we have been across the whole state of Wyoming a couple of times. "Desolate beauty" is what we came up with! Loved this video so much...and oh my that dinner! Yum!!!!!
So glad you enjoyed the video! The dinner was the bomb!
I was just in Pinedale for a week (July 16th-22nd). Beautiful area, probably one of the cleanest, most authentic places I’ve ever been. We day hiked toward the flattop at Green River Lakes and also hiked Sacred Rim hikes. Both were exceptional. Also visited Fremont Lake (some of the purest big lake water) and day hiked Cirque of the Towers. Hope you enjoyed your time in the Wind River Valley! The video was fantastic!
I also think I randomly took a photo of your van sitting on the river while going to Green River Lakes on the morning of the 17th. It looked so peaceful!
It sounds like we were there close to the same time! I think we did Green River Lakes the 15, but I am blanking haha. We did the cirque of the towers and loved it! So glad you enjoyed the area too!
If anyone had reason to ask *WHY* visit Wyoming... You certainly gave the "Why" they need, and put the WY in Wyoming! Great video guys! 😊
Thank you so much! ❤️ We love their slogan of “That’s WY!”
Spent some time in Pindale a couple years ago on a Fire assignment (Forest Service) and absolutely loved it there. Really have wanted to go back and visit, now I really want to! Such a beautiful area, and you guys did a great job revealing that! 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words! And thank you for helping keep the forests safe from fires!
Sacred Rim Trail, especially that overlook, is on my Bucket List!!! (PS your food and coffee visits and reviews are my favorite.)
Thank you so much for the kind words Francisco! ❤️ This hike was incredible!
The Pitchfork Fondue looked very nice and yummy!!!
It was an awesome experience!
Thank you for doing things off the beaten path. I really appreciate your authenticity and I love your content. Don’t ever change!
So glad you enjoy the off the beaten path, it’s our absolute favorite and gets us the most excited when filming!
PINEDALE! No way! Yay! Wife and I volunteered at the Pinedale visitor center last summer. We'd never been to Pinedale before either. We hiked green river lake, sacred rim, photographers point, etc. Friends from Texas came up and we rented a pontoon boat and we cruised Fremont lake.
Back country hike?
Cirque of the towers maybe? Can't wait to see the next video.
If you're still in Pinedale, go into the visitor center and ask for the director. He knows the area like the back of his hand and can give you more hikes and adventures than you have time for.
So much more I could share. Loved our summer there.
Wishing you great backcountry hiking from fellow Texans, full time travelers, currently relaxing in St George! 😁👍
That is so awesome! So happy you enjoyed the area too! Did you volunteer the whole summer? And we left already, but loved the area so much, we will be back!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes, we were there June through October. A neat little deal where we worked 3 days a week in exchange for an RV site for the summer, then 4 days a week to explore. It's a fun way to get to know an area.
We've only done this one other time in Maine where we volunteered at an outdoor logging museum... That was a blast!
Well, I assume the backcountry hike is done too, you're still answering comments so at least one of you made it out alive! 😆
(You learn a lot of stuff working in the visitor center... And we've got some interesting stories from hikers that came through).
Can't wait for the video!
That is a sick gig! We have talked about doing that someday! And we survived! It was a blast and we cannot wait to share that video later this week. I’m sure you heard some crazy stuff lol!
Pine Coffee looked good. I have to say I went to Willow Canyon Outdoor in Kanab you visited despite my misgivings ("coffee and books and outdoor s***, what's not to love?") and found it wanting at best (watery, lukewarm; the blonde middle-aged "barista" did not much like us for our mild complaints); but Bryce Canyon Coffee Company? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, awesome.
I have traditionally been more of an international-wanna-be travel dude, but with the pandemic have learned like my favorite RUclipsrs that our own country has so much beauty. Y'all do great work.
Rub Kona's ears for me.
Pine Coffee Supply is top notch! Sorry to hear you had a meh experience at Willow Canyon, going to hope it was just an off day for them. And we can't wait to go international again, but loving seeing new places here in the US...there is SO much to see!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Y'all can keep it stateside for a while. Why rush? As far as the coffee, I should have gone with my instincts. Besides, Bryce Canyon Coffee was Da Bomb, enough to make up for the other.
Peace out.
This was such a GREAT video! Really loved that you guys showed more then what people expect to see in WY. Love national parks but also love finding spots like this. Thanks for sharing with us!
We are so so happy you enjoyed it! Been very excited to show some areas outside of the NPs while here! We have found we enjoy these non national park areas just as much, if not more!
Oh wow! I live in Pinedale! I've never seen any videos of yours, but seeing as you came to my hometown, I might have to watch all that I can. I'm so glad you enjoyed our little mountain town.
Thank you so much for watching! ❤️ We loved it there!
Love when the wildflowers grace mountain paths 🥰
The wildflowers have been such a beautiful part of our hikes lately!
I appreciate that you visit and review places that are not National Parks. Your Utah videos were very useful to planning my trips out there. Thank you.
Do you know where all that Wyoming wind comes from? Montana blows and Colorado sucks.... he...he...he..... A little Wyoming humor for ya. I love them all. Wyoming is just my home.
😂😂😂
That pitchfork fondue has been very very high up on my wishlist of places to go since I started planning a cross country (south to north) itinerary
We couldn’t recommend it more! Amazing people, delicious food, and a great, local feeling experience!
Like always; fantastic vid. Loved it.
It is beyond refreshing to see places in this state showcased that are not the national parks. There is beauty everywhere, and enough open space for all to enjoy. Great job on the video!
We are really glad you enjoy seeing the non National Park spots! Lately we are enjoying them more than the national parks, they are just so beautiful and less busy!
As always great video guys😃👍!!!
Thanks so much!
Awesome, We are going to check that area out. Can't wait!
Have a blast Jim!
I was only a kid when I visited Wyoming, and my visit was very brief. Thanks for sharing some of the the wonderful locations of this beautiful state!
Growing up we didn’t know much about Wyoming, but WOW one of our favorite states now!
Love you've traveled off the beaten path! So many gems!
It’s our favorite!
That was so interesting!! The food looked delicious! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome pupper shots! Gorgeous! And such a great town!
Thank you so much!
So excited for part 2! I've been wanting to hike the Wind River Range ever since I learned about it a few years ago!
Oh my gosh, it was amazing! Can’t wait to share!
I loved as you leave that area heading north, the overpasses with the round entryways as you enter into the mountains. Absolutely gorgeous area.
It’s so beautiful out there! 😍
Pinedale is on my bucket list now! 😁 Thanks for sharing. Love your videos!
So glad you want to visit now! So much to do in that area!
Excellent, thanks
I just found your channel and already love it! Thank you for this video, now I want to visit this place even more than I wanted before. haha
Thank you so much for watching Raphael! And we hope you can visit, it’s a special place!
Great video with a little bit of everything! Beautiful hike, even with the smoke from fires :(
Loved the Pitchfork Fondue, something else to put on our list of things to do . Wyoming is beautiful.
Thankfully the smoke subsided a bit for the next video, although things aren’t looking as good for tomorrow’s adventure 😭 The Pitchfork Fondue is a MUST!
I'm having my own adventure called A+K travel binge 😂😁💗 love your personality guys and everything you showing us!! Thank you!!
Hahaha thank you so much for watching!
I am so glad y’all reviewed Pindale. You guys said the right thing about it. It is a very special place and not talked about a whole lot. Me and the family go every year for the 4th of July festivities. If y’all have never been to a rodeo you guys need attend one there in Pindale. They are so much fun. Greetings from Hereford, Tx, and safe travels.
Thank you so much, that means a lot coming from someone who knows the area well! We would love to visit a rodeo there!
Excellent video as usual! We love this area and camped here (Fremont Lake) just after seeing the solar eclipse in nearby Jackson
Fremont Lake is so beautiful with that mountain backdrop!
It looks so beautiful there!!! Bucket List!
Highly recommend it!!!
Wyoming is awesome. I was horseback riding the backcountry of Moran. Awesome views of the Teton range.
We visited and fished the Green River last year....awesome place to camp and fish.
Always enjoy your videos!! Great job guys.
So happy you've gotten to experience that area too! We want to fish next time!
Another awesome vlog. I watched your Yellowstone and Teton vids over the weekend as well as your Sky Pond RMNP vid. Y'all do a great job showcasing your journeys, and thank you for sharing them. That was an awesome pitchfork dinner, and I'm looking forward to your Wind River Range adventure. Take care.
Thanks so much Eric! We appreciate all of your support!
I adore this kind of stuff. Love the hikes and the parks but honestly the quirky stuff is way more fun! Pitchfork fondue?! Love it 😂- Ang
We agree! Trying to find unique experiences when we can (and can afford them!)
WYOMING is BEAUTIFUL…OMGosh!!! I loved the town of Pinedale…those views in your hike were 🤩…the Green River Lake views 🥳 and the whole meal experience at Pitchfork Fondue looked so yummy, inviting and amazing! I also loved your outtakes❣️
It was the best couple days! Soooo fun and also nice to be in a less crowded area!
Hi from Perth, Western Australia. Love watching your vlogs. I’ve been watching from the very beginning and love following all of your travels and also appreciate the work you put into filming, editing and posting. I spent 10 weeks with the family traveling the US four years ago and would love to go back😀
Thank you so much Shane! We appreciate all of your support ❤️ we hope you can make it back soon!
Headed to Wyoming this weekend….last gasp before school starts Woo Hoo!!! Thank you for sharing these tips!! The pugs say hello to Kona 😎
Have the best time!!
We were in Pinedale the week before you. We are definitely going back. The hikes, the scenery, and the peaceful calm were soul healing.
We loved it out there! So glad you did too!
Wyoming is such an incredible state. I can't wait to go back. You all always share the best spots. 😁
And Pitchfork Fondue looks amazing
Thank you so much for the kind words Megan! Wyoming is amazing!
Y’all are living my dream life. I live it through y’all. Thank y’all so very much. I love love love all of your videos and hope to actually meet y’all in for real life one day. God bless y’all 🌺
Thank you SO much for the support and following along! ❤️
Hello Adventurers😊😊😊, I love Wyoming! You know, admittedly we have seen all of Yellowstone and Grand Teton and also Jackson Hole, and with that said the next time I'm in Wyoming I am going to Pinedale. That food looked so AWESOME and the way they cook it...oh MAN just watching you eat the food I was getting so hungry! That's just not fair😊😊😊😊! I also like that you hiked away from crowds and the canoe ride was AWESOME. The National Parks would have definitely been super crowded. I'm really looking forward to your backpacking trip to the Wind River Range. Great video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
Yay! So happy to hear that! We are super passionate about sharing places that aren’t as well known. The backpacking trip was amazing and we cannot wait to share. LONG video coming Thursday!
I'm so glad you got to visit Pinedale. My brother is a deputy sheriff there! Beautiful place.
Oh wow! How cool!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Was thinking someone’s fencing must have come down to see such an array of animals roaming free! Anyway, so much to love about this video! Kona is turning into quite the hiker herself! Glad to see you 2 really filling up at that Pitchfork Fondue!(looked so delicious 😋) As a Mom & a Grammy, I always think you could eat more! 😘 I think Pinedale is going to be on a lot more destination lists after watching this! So beautiful! Stay safe you 3 & thanks for another great vlog! 💖
Hahah! Funny because most people think we eat too much 😂
Pinedale looks like a really cool town! The hikes and kayaking looked terrific too! And the Pitchfork Fondue looked amazing!!! Wow. I also really enjoyed the brief look at your boondocking/dispersed camping site... I definitely encourage you to share more of that among your travels... a fun part of the adventure to see!
Trying to share it more as it fits into the videos! Although now all of our spots will be Walmart’s 😜 Maybe we can start a “best Walmart’s in the USA” second channel 😂
Another great video from one of my favorite states. I see that you guys were well prepared for your hikes, bug spray, bear spray and Garmin's InReach for emergencies. Wish my health would allow me to hike as much as you guys do. I'd like to visit all the food and ice cream shops that you have covered, but, I'd probably would need a handicap lift to get in and out of the van cause I'd get so fat. Have fun and looking forward to your next video.
Being prepared hiking in Wyoming has been key for us! Hiking in grizzly country scares me if I’m being honest, but no sightings! We are glad we can bring you along virtually ❤️
Awesome hike, rewarded with stunning views ! So nice it was just you guys & your pup. Bugs seem to be everywhere .....
We got lucky we only saw two other people and they left the rim when we arrived! The bugs are such a pain 😬
@@AdventuresofAplusK I hear ya on the bugs. Here in S. FL the deer fly have been bad for so many months (in the preserves) and more-recently mosquitos have gotten bad.....all are worse inland, much better closer to coasts. That said, I can't complain, no tropical storms (yet) and daily rains cool us off a bit and nature is green/green :-)
Very good video.
Thanks! My now retired Doctor was born in Pinedale. He would tell me about it often. I am going there next year for several days.
That is awesome! We hope you enjoy the area as much as we did!
That's right! Cowboys love their coffee too! :) Love the historical background to this beautiful place!
It is such a great area with lots of interesting history!
I gotta try the Pitchfork Fondue. How fun! 😀
It was a blast!
You guys just add a spot for us to stay on our upcoming trip. We stayed on the other side of the mountain in Dubois ,WY and never knew about Pinedale now we booked 6 days to check in out. Your travels do help others….. keep on doing your thing!
Pined ale is so awesome! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Another beautiful video! Your story telling and videography is excellent! Tourism bureau’s are truly missing out not hiring you guys! Love the bloops too! Great job guys! ~Cara 😊
Hahah we like to think they’re missing out too, we would love to work with them! But thankful we can still share these places with y’all!
@@AdventuresofAplusK and thank you, you guys produce fun high quality videos, we really enjoy watching! ~Cara 😊
Love it! You should check out the snowy mountain range in the Laramie/ centennial area. Beautiful hikes!
We filmed a video there back in August 2019! It’s the first place we ever visited in the van and we just went back before pinedale for some off camera exploring.
National Parks are great places, we really enjoy you guys visiting all the other places. Less crowds and just as beautiful are state parks, national forests, grass lands and blm areas. We visit them all and enjoy all. Keep up the good work👍
We couldn’t agree more! Lots of non national park adventures coming soon!
Great video! I hiked and kayaked Green River Lakes area in July. It's one of my favorite spots in the US now. You're right about the bugs in July though. 😂
It’s gorgeous out there! Makes the mosquitos worth it 😂
We've never been to Pinedale but it looks very interesting! Those Green River Lakes look beautiful and I'd love to get a closer look at Flat Top Mountain! We've done a chuckwagon dinner before over near the Tetons and it was fun too!
Next time we want to backpack out there to get closer!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I bet that would be amazing!
I adore Wyoming and it's up there as one of my favourite states (... and your Teton videos was how I originally found you guys) I've loved getting to see some areas in the state I'd not heard of. The Sacred Rim trail was beautiful, I loved the hazy shots showing the layers of rocks ❤️ The Green River Lakes were stunning and square top mountain was awesome. Had a little Devil's Tower vibe to it but with a nicer setting amongst the lakes. Don't blame you for taking it slow up there - I've just had to shell out the £££'s on getting my front suspension fixed thanks to pot holes in the roads! I've never heard of a pitchfork fondue in my life before, but it looks all kinds of epic, probably better than the fondue's I've had over in France! I am so hungry now after watching this video... I should have known bette than to watch you guys before a meal time! 🤦♀️🤣 Random, but I adored your shot of the paddle going into the water and dipping the camera in too! 🙌
Wyoming is so amazing! We loved getting to explore some areas outside of the national parks! That is horrible about your suspension 😭 Adam fears damage to the van alllll the time. And thank you so much for the kind words on the shots! Thankful for the GoPro in times like these!
Just now caught this, we were pretty busy yesterday. We will have to put Pinedale on our trip list and take the time to explore it. Have fun backpacking. Travel Safe.
BTW... if you get a chance, you might consider Buffalo Wy, and Longmire Days.
There is still so much we need to see in WY! This was a quick trip, but we will be back!
I went there years ago and just loved it.
It’s awesome there!
another 6 months and I'll be moving there forever!
Wow, amazing! Congrats!
I’m so glad I live Nextdoor to Wyoming
Good thing you chose the forever option at the end!!!!!! You are his lobster!!!!!! 🦞
❤️❤️❤️
What beautiful scenery! I may have to put that part of Wyoming on my bucket list. Great video! Side note….I know y’all are Longhorn fans. As a lifelong Arkansas Razorback fan, let me welcome UT to the SEC! It’s a tough conference but I’m excited to welcome the Longhorns! And we will see the Horns in Fayetteville in just a few short weeks. Go easy on us. Lol….
Thank you! We shall see if we can hang in that conference. Haven’t been very good in years haha
Fun video! Pinedale seems like an awesome gateway town to an amazingly beautiful area.
I have done the parks in Wyoming a few times but really haven’t explored the rest of the state. I know I am missing out and this video reinforces that.
I haven’t done this but did stumble upon the Fossil Butte National Monument area (southwest Wyoming) in researching a future trip. There are active quarries around the monument in which you can dig and hunt for fossils. Just something else unique this state offers but not sure if that is up your alley.
Pinedale is a really cool little town! Not touristy at all!
That National Monument sounds fun! We have some friends that did a dig at someplace in Montana I believe and they raved about it!
I think i would sit in my lounge chair on the end of that 4 mile trail, and smoke a cigar looking at the scenery.....
We have been living in Wyoming a bit over 2 years and still have a lot to explore
Pretty epic spot to just sit and enjoy the view!
Loved the video!! And that food looked amazing!! Looks like a neat place to checkout when we’re back in WY!❤️
There is so much to do in this area, it’s amazing!
Can't believe no one commented on the underwater shot! You all have some mad photography skills! O my gosh, I want to go back to WY just to do the fondue!
Hahaha thank you! We appreciate it!
We had lunch at the Burger Barn last Wednesday! Beautiful Western town.
We loved it out there!
What a cool area y’all checked out!! You guys make such high quality content - can’t wait to see the rest of your adventures this summer. Are y’all going to visit Montana again anytime soon? :)
Thank you so much Katie! And sort of! A very very quick stop to a different area on a road trip, but it should be beautiful!
Great video. I have the same kayak...
Thanks Thomas!
2:47 what an epic shot
thanks A+K
There is so many trails that folks can hike in Pinedale they go to all the lakes up there. Get a thermacell for the skeeters. Thanks for sharing. Check out the fish on the wall at the Albertsons. Right before green river lakes is the silver dollar lakes. Tons of fish in them.
Lots to see and do in the Pinedale area!
Damn you two! I’m going to Green River and now you’re making me have to go to that restaurant in Pinedale.😂
Doooo it!
I grew up in Jackson Hole, beautiful area! I miss hiking up there and can't wait to go back!
Wow, what an amazing place to grow up!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Did you get to Jackson itself? I'm scrolling through your videos to see.
We did in August 2019, but not this time (on camera at least). We have a link to our Wyoming playlist with past videos in the description and pinned comment.
@@AdventuresofAplusK Thank you!
Wyoming is the kind of countryside you could get lost in...literally...and enjoy it!
It’s the best!!!
Loved this video. I didn’t know about pitchfork fondue! Looks so cool. I have to say I was shocked because it seems like you’ve never had lemon bars before?! They’re a pretty common dessert here in the Midwest and are delicious!
We have had them before (lemon deserts are some of my fav), but just not in a loooong time. And since I technically can’t eat gluten, it was a special, extra exciting treat for me! 😃
Adventures of A+K okay, that makes sense then! Maybe you could try to make some in your skillet in the fire pit.
That would be so good!!
Thanks for sharing! I found your video through an image of the sacred rim trail near Pinedale. We visit the USA since 1991 from the Netherlands and are looking for less obvious locations to photograph.
That was such an exciting view!
Pinedale and Wyoming are definitely less obvious. If you can get out to the Green River Lakes area you will love it as well!
Thank you for commenting and watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Green River Lakes are on the list. I would have stayed longer then one night but never got a response from the tourist departement I wrote to. We will be there when the season ends in the middle of October. It's good to explore the possibilities for maybe another time. There's too much to enjoy. It's why we fell in love with the USA from the start.
@@AdventuresofAplusK we had a blast of a time during our 10 week road trip in the autumn, visiting from the Netherlands. We loved both locations and only a few people around! Got nice images too. Hope to visit again!
Hey guys! Wife and I are enjoying your adventures a lot! Would you be willing to share what those large cameras are that you each carry on your pack straps? 😊
Hi! We have all of our gear listed here: adventuresofaplusk.com/resources/
Man I wish I could just travel like that
Liked those underwater paddle shots!
Woo! Glad you enjoyed them!
You two are so sweet! 🥰
❤️❤️❤️
Are you guys thinking about doing meet and greets at different national parks/sites in the near future?
Hi! We try to keep our real time location private, but we have run into quite a few people at the national parks (and even at this pitchfork fondue!) and always love to say hi and chat!
Curious when we’re you guys there? We were in Pinedale July 9-12 in 2021. I feel like we must have just missed you!
We were in the Pinedale area between the 13th-22nd. Just missed ya!
you gotta watch Frontier on Netflix,
just a suggestion, get an air compressor, after airing down the tires for a smoother ride on bumpy roads, you can air up again, also nice to blow up the kayak u guys have
Yeah we really need to, just gotta find some space
This is a great video. We are new subscribers and look forward to watching more of your channel. Could you please tell me how you like your kayak? We are thinking of getting one and the price on this one fits in our budget. Thank you!
We love our kayak! Just avoid shallow waters and oyster beds (which popped our first one) and you’ll be good. It’s comfortable, easy to set up, and super portable!
@@AdventuresofAplusK thanks!
If you haven't been to the Medicine Bow National forest in Wyoming I would recommend it.
We have and it’s amazing 😊 ruclips.net/video/RfTMCZtNrVc/видео.htmlsi=xuZaI-6WRlEZP1fF
But also, are you sure you didn’t use a green screen and special technology to create a place that looks like this?? It’s too beautiful to be real! 🤩
😂😂😂 Shhh! Don’t give away our secrets! All Vlogs are filmed from my parent’s guest bedroom using green screen technology! 😜
Goin there on the 16th 😊😊😊
Have a great time!
Hi, your opening scene this is an Aerial shot of a river. Would you mind sharing that location. Thanks so much
That was on the drive to and from Green River Lakes 😃
Awesome! My husband and I along with our dog Timber will be at green river lakes in 2 weeks!
Have the best time! It is GORGEOUS out there!
@@AdventuresofAplusK thank you!
When were you at Green River Lake area? This July? I'm going there in one week. Wondering about the smoke.
This was July 17 I think! The smoke got better a couple days after, but not sure how it is now.
Hey guys. New subscriber here and I found your channel by searching for Wyoming adventures. We also have a dog and considered bringing her, but noticed that most parks don’t allow them. We also don’t own an RV (yet). What do you guys do with the dog when she can’t go on a hike, etc.?

I'm a Wyoming native, and I laughed out loud when you decribed Pinedale as authentic and "not overly touristy." Twenty years ago, that was still true. But all the development in Pinedale in recent years has been pure "touristy."
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! But that doesn't surprise me: you're tourists. If you were trying to make a living raising livestock, you probably couldn't afford much of anything in Pinedale.
Yes unfortunately that's the way it's gone for many beautiful towns out west. It was our first time there so it was all we knew. Of course things have changed over the years.
We did have an awesome time there and can't wait to go back!
