I don't have an RV, but I have a Silverado ZR2 6.2L with RTT and things you tend to bring when camping. Some ask if it's to overland. I feel I'm more of a recreational weekender. So my longest stay off grid is 3 days 2 night.
Now this is what I want, real raw realistic van life content just two nice normal people cooking and hanging out, no corny speeches about “journeys” or some shit, no cringey wide brim hats and depressing white and beige everything, no announcements of a new baby and moving to “cabin life” instead which is literally just.. moving back into a house and negates the purpose of the channel Just good old fashioned vehicle dwelling as vehicle dwellers live. Glad to see it!! keep it up, it’s very refreshing truly ❤
My dad was a Boy Scoutmaster for over 20 years. He always said his pie iron was the best thing to have camping. If you made things in your Oven at home, you could make it in your pie iron. He did pumpkin pie, fruit pies, pizzas, cinnamon roll (store bought in a tube), peanut butter and jelly pies, biscuits and gravy pies, eggs with bacon, and omelets, loose meat cheeseburger pies, cheesy hotdog pies and anything you can think up. Enjoy!
I've done peach pie. Pillsbury biscuit (uncooked), flattened and shaped for the pie iron. Butter both sides and place in pie iron. On the inside side, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Do the same thing with another biscuit on the other side. Then spoon some canned peach pie filling onto one side (or make your own peach pie filling). Close the pie iron so it is fully closed and no ash will get it. Place in the coals so you have coals on both sides and let cook (sorry, I don't remember how long, but probably similar to your grilled cheese - however, you will not need to do per side if you bury the pie iron in the coals). Obviously, you could use any flavor pie filling. I've done a similar thing for meat/cheese pie. Uncooked Pillsbury biscuit, flattened and shaped, buttered on both sides. One biscuit on each side of pie iron. Scoop in a mixture of browned hamburger (or browned ground turkey) with your favorite seasonings and grated cheese. Close pie iron fully so no ash can get in and bury in coals. Mmmm, my mouth is watering thinking of these! Some of my favorite camping (and Girl Scout) meals!
I have begun to really enjoy watching you two on this journey you’re on. You make it seem kind of easy but I know it’s not that easy. I love how you make every area you go to like it’s home and cook really good meals. And I really enjoy watching the way you two interact with each other! This life you live is goals for me and my husband!!!
Great video! So beautiful there! I would love those cooler temperatures and a rainy night. Your breakfast looked so yummy but so did those grilled cheese pies. There is something about that first cup of coffee no matter where we are that jumpstarts our day. ☕️😊❤️👍
Really does work great and is so easy to make. I mean, what else do you do with the vaseline that has been sitting in your medicine cabinet for years. 😂
Pizza! Use whatever pizza dough you prefer or canned biscuit dough works great. Oil both sides of the pie iron, shape dough to fit on one side of the pie iron and add some pizza sauce and whatever toppings you like you prefer, add another piece of dough and stretch it to fit over the toppings enough to seal the sides when pie iron is closed and cook over the fire
We made pies with those. Buy your filling, cherry is great, white bread only. Cook over fire, rub in sugar as soon as you take it off heat. Melt a little butter on top. Yum
Girl! Get a double pie maker! You can reheat leftovers, meal prep burritos, breakfast burritos, your favorite sandwich’s, steaks, use pie crust with you favorite fillings… your options are endless!
We do fry pies all the time. Try making sloppy joes. Make your mix fill the center and cover with second slice of bread. Also Pizza fry pies. For something extra special use lemon curd as your filling and brioche as the bread. Top with powdered sugar.
With pie irons I made pizza before can pizza sauce with some cheese . You can make them open face or take sourdough bread cut the slice in half and make like a home made hot pocket. You can also do s’mores or make strawberries and chocolate in toasty bred. Make some pennies. There is so much you can do with it
Grew up camping in the 60's and 70's and we called them Tonka pies because that was the brand of the iron. My daughter still has an original Tonka that was my inlaws. My 4 year old granddaughter loves them. Her fav is a smore one, chocolate and marshmallow inside the toasted bread.
I love watching your videos it makes me so happy. I love the travels and such a beautiful couple. I hope my husband and I will be able to do what you are doing. God willing 3 years before my husband retire at 65.
Just when I thought I had our motorhome kitchen complete, Tanya comes along with a pie iron. Im going to get one of those. As a baker, this is going to be fun! Thanks Tanya!
Thanks. Dave surprised me with two and I'm looking forward to trying different recipes. They're fun. Easy to clean and the recipes are a ton of fun to make.
Whew... Is that a squirrel or Alvin and his friends? I had to watch 2xs because the first time i was to busy looking for the critter running around...😊😊😊 I love camping though. Yeah, a nap would have won.
Thanks for watching. FYI - We post every Tuesday here at 2:00 PM PT. Make sure you hit the notification bell found next to the subscribe button so you don't miss a video release. Thank you for watching and hope you're summer is going well and you're staying cool. It's been super hot out
Since you don't use your dule burner stove have you ever thought about taking it out of the camper? You can also put a door in the bedrooms open cabinet .
We did November through to March without hookup. And get this.....without a camp ground. We found public toilets for emptying the loo. We used garages and toilets for drinking water. Once or twice we bought bottled. We slept in laybys or pull offs i think you call them, but here in the UK they are laybys. We slept on roadsides at the beach. So it was challenging at times with stormy weather and high winds and anti social youth. We only use solar power. No bluetti or such device. We do use LPG to cook and keep warm. We use hot water bottles at bed time and wrap up well. We used laundromats twice a week. We felt quite satisfied we done well without camp grounds. We work on a camp ground during summer but to be honest we like self sufficiency too.
They always eat really good, thanks to wifey. I imagined alot of pemikin and jerky meals. Lol. But they eat very balanced and normal. I'm surprised there's not more wildlife coming to dinner.
6:24 We all need one of these power stations! So if weather is ever bad we can have a power station in her home thats perfect. I love it here in the birds in your videos.
Here's a tip for you guys. Wet the top of your van if at all possible. it brings the temperature down big time when it is really hot out. I know people that put sprinklers on top of their houses so they can tell their houses with water to cool it off and it really works. Aluminum foil on your windows keep saying cool air in also
We made apple pies and pizzas and ham and cheese in our irons. But better than that is ham kabobs. Canned ham canned pineapple and any veggies you have leftover. Chunk and skewer. Then baste with a jar of sweet and sour. They are great over the fire 5 minutes rotating until hot all the way through. Love this recipe because nothing needs precious refrigerator space.😊
plug that 200l into your cig lighter of van while generator running it will charge it. also just leave in during the day and your roof solar will charge your house battery and your Bluetti Dave.. looks like a great site.. safe travels to you guys.
Oh you brought up such great memories. My dad had one of those things that you made the grilled cheese sandwich with. Back in the olden days they were called toastites. We used to make all kinds of them on the stove in the kitchen. They were so good. My dad passed away and I looked for his and couldn't find it. Now that I know they make them still I will order one. Thank you for sharing😊
Well done, all sensible advice for campers, you can improvise *even borrow backpackers habits/stoves if that helps* you can make it without a hookup, we did it all the time camping in RVs on a gigantic farm, never suffered. Y’all got all the bases covered! Enjoy that breeze😘
Lol. 40 years ago we would load up our 16 foot trailer and head for the lake on the last day of school for a solid 2 months... no hookups and no solar and the kids just thrived
Thank you for sharing the reduced generator power production at higher elevations- I knew it went down but your description is helpful Show us some boondocking in Mt Charleston too!
There are dispursed camping spots. We like Fletcher in Mt Charleston. It has power hookups. No water or sewer but power. It's a bit lower in elevation around 7000 feet. So it does warm up. you can use your A/C without worrying about running down your batteries quickly. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Tanya and Dave putting a smile on my face tonight with this video. Long day today and glad to come home after an 11 hr shift to see yall uploaded. Luv yall god bless!
Dessert: In MI we call them Pudgy Pies. You'll need a can of strawberry pie filling, nutella , cream cheese, butter, bread and some powder sugar. I made this one up many years ago camping. First you butter one side of each piece of bread and put it in you pie iron butter side down, then spread a little softened cream cheese on one side of the bread, then some nuttella on the other side, then the strawberry pie filling. Close it up and cut over fire, when it's done then put it on a plate and sprinkle some powdered sugar on it. YUMMMMMM!!! Enjoy 🙂
🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️Hello there. I just found your channel one video ago. It just came up on my feed. I never heard of your channel before and I really enjoyed the video that said we're quitting RV life a little bit of clickbait there for sure. But what was really cool is you talked about the challenges the real challenges of living in a small space. I had a 25 ft class C and whoever had it before me took out the dinette and it was the most amazing floor plan ever. It was just wide open in the living space and I don't understand this whole thing about calling being a nomad, van life. I could never live in a van and I'm solo. The only thing with me is my service dog. He's my best friend he's what keeps me going because I have chronic illnesses and now I'm pretty much disabled. Here's a little something that turned into a huge something. I was done traveling and I rented a space at my mechanics. I was two blocks from the ocean. beautiful. I paid $160 rent per month and that included all hookups and a sewage for dumping right there. It can't get better than that so one day I had my RV out I was going to the park to let my service dog play and when it was time to go back to my place where I lived I had to make a big U-turn and it was up an incline. I was with my care helper and I said okay we're going to give it some gas because I got to get up some speed to U-turn. Well I thought I was in drive but I wasn't. I was in reverse, pedal to the metal and BOOM💥💥. I reversed into a huge cement light pole and it literally pushed the back end of the RV the bedroom just caved it right in a big way. And I knew right then it's over. Something has drastically changed and I didn't get out to look at it because I knew even though the sound was not very loud that I had totaled the RV. When I got back to the mechanics shop where I rent my space I took a look, fell down to the ground and started crying. You see I had been a nomad for many many years and now I had just stopped for a few years because of my health and it was just too much to drive around, all the hassles as you guys so wonderfully explained. So I had nowhere to live because the RV was totaled the insurance company gave me money and where was I going to go I ended up in a independent living home for senior women and unfortunately it turned out to be a very horrific place as I was experiencing severe elder abuse. I'm 66 years old but without getting into one of the abuses let's just say adult protective services was called six times because of six major incidences of abuse. I had to get free legal counsel a whole thing was now a foot. I'm still here now trying to get out as I get help looking for a place. And I keep thinking just go buy you know a cheap RV you can do it. But I'm so grateful to you guys because you told the truth and another video popped up this morning before yours and they told the truth and I realized you cannot do that, You're not well enough to do that. Because when living in an RV full-time you have to have good health if you don't it's so difficult but rarely will you hear people talk about it on RUclips. So I loved your video I loved the two of yours energy and your connection. I see you bought yourself a nice looks like a class b to me I don't know. But how creative are you to be able to cook outside like that, that is awesome. Thank you for solidifying even more that there's no way I can go back to that lifestyle. And I feel like a failure because I told myself I will never ever live in one place again. I'm just a Nomad at heart. I always have been and I was in RVs for 20 years solo. So thank you for this video I'm going to subscribe right now because I really like your energy and all I have to say negatively is your thumbnail was definitely clickbait. And I don't know why people think they have to do that to get people to watch their video because it's clear to me you have not ended your nomadic life. All right thanks again I hope you get this comment If you did just leave a logo or something or reply whatever I want to make sure that these comments are getting read. when they're old although this one I think is only a few days old okay have a good one happy trails. SUBSCRIBING NOW ❤
Hi Tanya and Dave, oh the heat temperatures with the humidity were miserable!! As soon as you opened the door you were slapped in the face by the heat!!! I'm glad you and Dave are doing ok!! You know how we feel about you and the kitties!😻 I love the grilled cheese sandwich. Stay strong!!! Like I always say...TO THE BEST COUPLE EVER!!!! From Tricee in Virginia Beach, VA ⛱️⛱️⛱️😊
We have a very similar item to what you call a pie iron. I think ours is a little bit smaller. They were called Tonka toaster. (Not connected to Tonka toys). We’ve had them since about 1980. You could buy either Teflon coated or just metal. What we usually made were Tonka pizzas. We always buttered the bread on the side that is against the toaster. Then we would put a small amount of pizza sauce, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese in there, then put the other piece of bread, butter side out, on top of it and the. Close it up and roast till bread is brown. We camped with a big group and lots of kids and the kids loved them as did everyone else!!! We did also make pies using bread, butter side out, and then pie filling. Another delicious treat!!! Unfortunately, they are no longer made but we still have 3 and our daughter has one so we’re pretty lucky!!!! 😀. Love your videos. They’re so fun to watch. Thank you. 💕
Sounds like you've had some fun times with your Tonka toaster. These are so much fun and the recipes you can come up with seem endless. Looking forward to experimenting with different dishes and desserts. Thank you so much foe watching and leaving such a lovely comment. 😊 🙏
i dunno if this will work where yall are at but try to place a small plastic cup with some sugar in it on opposite end of table you plan to eat on a few minutes before your ready to eat, that will hopefully keep those pesky flys away from yalls meal
You both have such a lovely peaceful vibe. Love it! I am also a Minnesota girl… And yes, growing up in camping we made lots of fruit pies and pizza pies with those pie, sandwich makers :-) have fun with those!
yessss desserts are bomb. and cinnamon rolls. the bread in a tube can are ideal for this task. .crescent rolls work too. for desserts get cans of pie filling or even pudding for filling
We used regular sliced bread and when we closed it, we cut off whatever was sticking out. Square bread and round iron. My little brother and I loved the jelly sandwiches. We didn't think about making something else. Maybe bologna. I wonder if it's still in my parents' home?
I bought a small 12 volt water pump from harbor freight with some clear tubing then i keep a 5 gallon container and pumpt the water into the motor home. 5 gallons of water is too heavy to lift up that high! (Just sayin!) Love your videos!
I liked the Pie Iron. You could do a hot dog in that, slice the hot dog length wise then in half, add cheese.and you can add a tiny bit of mustard if you like or some diced onions, skys the limit !
I'm in Minnesota and growing up my parents put the canned pie filling in them. And they also did a pizza one with pizza sauce, shredded cheese and pepperoni. You brought back many wonderful memories with that!

Use mayo instead of butter for grilled cheese. Best kept secret !!!
Ew no that’s gross. And yes I’ve tried it, gross. Butter is so much better
@@leebliss3622so it’s gross to YOU but it’s actually good to a lot of others.👌🏾

Looks so awesome there! And you definitely had me at a movie and cold beer 😊
I was in Vegas for 120. Lucky I got a airbnb with a pool. Fall Freemont street video?
Excellent video thanks for sharing. I always enjoy you guys content. You are amazing. Keep up the excellent work peace and blessings ❤❤🤗🤗
i dunno if this will work where yall are at but try to place a small plastic cup with some sugar in it on opposite end of table you plan to eat on a few minutes before your ready to eat, that will hopefully keep those pesky flys away from yalls meal
I recommend a cast iron pie iron thats a rectangle so its prob twice the size and has extendable tongs for those hot fires
Nice RV park, beautiful scenery. Nice tour of the other RV. Thanks for sharing how you are doing things. Safe travels.
Yes, the upgrade stupendous 🎉❤
My favorite couple 😊❤
I enjoy all you’re videos.Sanford NC
You both have such a lovely peaceful vibe. Love it! I am also a Minnesota girl… And yes, growing up in camping we made lots of fruit pies and pizza pies with those pie, sandwich makers :-) have fun with those!

Banana and Nutella! Also tomato, mozzarella, and pesto and a dash of balsamic. Girl you crack me up😂
Wow a Hugh breakfast that would be enough for dinner to!!
You need to figure out a way to collect rain water. It would help on those raining days and get you lots of water while your at it
30:18 that's a big refrigerator nice
yessss desserts are bomb. and cinnamon rolls. the bread in a tube can are ideal for this task. .crescent rolls work too. for desserts get cans of pie filling or even pudding for filling
We used regular sliced bread and when we closed it, we cut off whatever was sticking out. Square bread and round iron. My little brother and I loved the jelly sandwiches. We didn't think about making something else. Maybe bologna. I wonder if it's still in my parents' home?
Your twins have little hooks by the main door. That's cool.
Where are the kitties? And you haven't used my Mickey and Minnie potholders I sent for your b-day. Would've been perfect for your yummy outdoor meals😊
we went camping up there and saw your bear holding down the campsite🤙
😂😂😂
Absolutely love your channel!!
Good morning! 🍳☕️
I have been enjoying your videos!!
Have you considered a collapsible catio for the fur babies?
Blessings!! 🩷🤎🤍💜💛💚
I like your whistling 😙 I'm not good at that 😂 yes in my area we've had the hottest month here in Connecticut oy
Was wondering if you ever tried the coffee carafe with the filter instead of tthe keurig? Boil and pour......sooooooo good and I'm a coffee snob.😂
I'm in Minnesota and growing up my parents put the canned pie filling in them. And they also did a pizza one with pizza sauce, shredded cheese and pepperoni. You brought back many wonderful memories with that!
I Love watching ya ! Blessings
Can you tell us where your boondocking and do you pay nightly please . Ty for showing your her routine it’s a blessing and what exactly you use.
Gotta use that Kraft American singles for a proper grilled cheese imo, add in the Nally Dill pickles (specific to the PNW)
That actually sounds good. Thank you! We'll be heading the PNW soon.
I love you two! keep up the great work. Viewer from Australia
We appreciate that! thank you all the way from Australia! It's winter there right now, correct?
What was the technique Dave use to light the fire. It looked like a couple cotten balls and rubbing alcohol.
Thanks for the video as always loved the squirrel in the video
