  • Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, questioned Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the second day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing. Hirono stressed the real-world implications of the cases that would come before the court during Barrett's term should she be confirmed, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic, and especially concerning the Affordable Care Act, which has been targeted by Republicans and the president.
“What I’m trying to align myself with is the law,” Barrett said. “I will take into account all factors, including real-world impacts when the law makes them relevant.”
The Oct. 13 hearing comes three weeks before Election Day. The second of four days of scheduled testimony gave senators an opportunity to ask Barrett about her record and approach to the law.
