I have a Bonsai baby tree not Succulent though. I just repotted today with fresh soil and fish fertilizer AFTER 3-4 years lol. I just water it and pruned when it needed that was it. I'm suprise when I pulled it out of the pot the roots did not rot it sat in water for 2-3 years. The leaves always dark green. I just start get into succulents. I usually get thr rare ones that most people don't have. Yours are beautiful! I've NEVER seen them before I want them. Love it!
Very nice! I love the trunks on the jades as they age. I think yours looks really good with the larger trunk and smaller leaves. Awesome job on all of them! I just picked up a small jade the other day. I think it's going to be a fun journey with this one!
I’ve been moving in this direction as well, using smaller and smaller pots. I only really got into succulents this year. So easy to care for, and it’s fun propagating them.
The two bonsai with rosette leaf arrangement are most likely aeoniums. My guess is aeonium haworthii, but I can't be sure. Many species look very similar, and there's a lot of hybrids/cultivars/etc.
Great videos! I have enjoyed them all and looking forward to the next installment. You should do one on what tools the "Poor Man" needs to get started. I'm very new to Bonsai. Cheers!
I have seen a couple of other bonsai channels using succulents to bonsai. I have a jade that is in horrible condition that I want to save into bonsai. Thanks for the info!
Believe it or not, I saw one (and someone else also confirm she has the same one in her neighborhood) of a tree size elephant bush - yes a big tree size of a house of this succulent plant (or tree?) - if you interested I can share a photo.
Seems like most of the succulent bonsai I've seen have always been short and chunky. Isn't it possible to do a larger somewhat thinly branched succulent? Right now I'm experimenting with Montauk Daisy, which kinda looks like if a chrysanthemum was a succulent (in fact it used to be called Chrysanthemum Nipponicum), and I'm not sure where to find a more traditional looking bonsai out of such types of large woody succulents.
gollum and hobbit are actually 2 different jades. the hobbit has smaller tube leaves the gollum looks more like shrek's ears. i have a 10 year old gollum that was a house warming gift from my friends as just a little 2-3inch plant. its now 2-3 foot wide and about 1-2 foot tall.. never seen a echivaria bonsai.. most suc growers cut them off when they gt leggy like that. very cool plants tho.. i so relate to your channel.. im a poor mans glass artist for 20 years just started doing bonsai over the winter.. im hoping to be able to make some boro(pyrex) pots for a few of my smaller trees soon
Love this video from Korea :-) I just wonder do you value variegata (rare) succulents in your country? As we are crazy for Variegata (rare) succulents in Korea here. We call it 'Gold' succulent if I translate from Korean to English. If you or other subscriber can reply to my request! It would be awesome!!! 💖 💖 💖
I really think it depends on the grower. I personally LOVE anything Cressula Ovata. I feel drawn to bonsai Portulacaria Afra, which is very similar to the Cressula Ovata. I found it at a local hardware store. It is a Portulacaria Afra Veriegata. It is till a fairly small plant. I have seperated a small part to start the bonsai process.
Love succulents and cacti as they remind me of my formative years in San Diego =) Live in Colorado now and have recently started developing some into Bonsai plants! Love the video...would love to share a couple of pics from my collection!!
Hey there! I just bought a succulent Jade plant today and am looking to make it into a bonsai. I know it's a stupid question but is there anything I need to do convert it into a bonsai or do I just put it in a pot and wait? Thanks and sorry for the stupid question!
No worries for the question!! There are couple options really. If it already looks like a nice tree ish shape, you could place it in a small bonsai pot now. But if it looks far from a tree, then I would plant it in perhaps a bigger pot so it'll grow faster and start trimming the foliage so that it back buds and new branches form. The more you trim, the more branches will develop, which over times will thicken all the foliage and will make it more and more tree like! :) That's a simple way of explaining it. haha hope that made sense! Stay tuned for more succulent bonsai videos that might help you out. Cheers!
I love your hand made pot! It’s really cute!

Picked up a few succulent plant giveaways at the local botanical where I work. Thought of bosaiing them. Found your vids. Good work!

I was trying to find out what type that succulent is or one similar so I think you for this comment.

The fleshy plant with bulbs, makes great hair in a head pot. I even put in doll heads.
Gracias amigo x compartir tus conocimientos, un abrazo y un saludo desde Chile

the ''flower'' succulent is an Aeonium arboreum
Aeounium Haworthii
Hi, are you using potting soil in bonsai pots, or bonsai soil? I like the small pot you made. That's cool thank you

Well I'm from South Asia. The variegata succulents are really popular here. Everyone is looking for ways to make their garden look unique and exotic.

👍👍👍
Buenos tus videos , ademas nos das una idea de como hacer un bonsai de forma mas facil y practica , aunq a los puristas del arte no les gusta ...
Updates!
Will do! :)
I cannot keep succulents alive. It vexes me.
Durand Compton wow you must be bad luck . Succulents are the easiest to keep alive
Succulent problems are USUALLY from over watering
I watered my succulents only twice a week
Not to split hairs (ok, 100% to split hairs), but golem was of the race that was the precursor to hobbits. Not a hobbit himself
Jades like little pots.
Second ''bush'' looks like my crassula ovata!
Baobab = succulent
Portulacaria Afra: elephant bush.
