Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Gotta admit I’m a Morrowind guy, and I’ve only ever gotten through the main quest of Oblivion. Need to replay it sometime.
Fun fact: the Adoring Fan's voice actor, Craig Sechler, didn't understand why he was made to play such an annoying character. He said "no one's gonna like this character!" The dudes at Bethesda responded with "exactly! We want the fans to hate him!" Craig loved all the creative ways fans were killing the Adoring Fan, and even remixing his dialogue into songs.
Play as an Argonian and become a vampire. When his pupils change, he has this expression like "I have seen some shit maaaan" haha It's hilarious. Because Argonians have different Eyes compared to everybody else it's so comical when they get this big round pupils instead of the little slits.

Skyrim - arrow to the knee Oblivion - "have you come seeking the light" with horrendous bloom Morrowind - cliffracers and more and more RPG elements getting cut out with every new game in TES series...
Jaffacus what game did you play? Oblivion’s leveling system is completely irrelevant and can be completely ignored. The sense of progression is completely missing. There’s no point to leveling. In Skyrim you create whatever character you want, just because the game isn’t telling you you’re an assassin, doesn’t mean there isn’t classes. There is.
Revolver Skyrim was boring. You like gray? Do you like gray with snow? Do you want a fighter guild that talks about honor but does nothing? Do you like go to this cave, go to the end, collect the chest, and take it back to me instead of a long quest line? Do you like fighting in a war and afterwards they tell you nothing really changed.
I always preferred Oblivion to Skyrim. Its quests were far more fleshed out. Skyrim has very poor writing in comparison. Then folks say "yeah but morrowind was even better". Yeah maybe but visuals are too poor for my tastes.
that sounds like nostalgia talking. There's no nuance in the conflicts or most quests in oblivion. Skyrim and morrowind has this. And skyrim does everything besides being on equal ground in terms of music
@@nemeru3352 nah dude, Skyrim just sucks in terms of story, its kind of sad that its DLCs and sidequests have a better story then then main one, lets also not forget that in Oblivion whatever you did had an impact on the world overall and the NPCs recognize you for it, unlike Skyrim, *so you are the newest member of the Compainons, what do you do, fetch the mead?* Guard in Skyrim to actual Harbinger of the Companions
@@samuelhaverghast2442 Am talking comparatively. Main quest, isn't well written or anything, but you don't have to do oblivon gates, instead you fights dragon's, which tho they get repetitive after awhile, they're the best most Dynamic thing you'll fight in the entire series. Skyrim is Oblivion, more of the same, just with a lot of necessarily refinement.combat is more flashy if still shallow, magic is cool this time, duel welding was a great addition. becoming a werewolf, vampire lord. Not having 5 voice actors. Once you've walked out of the sweers of oblivion you've seen the whole thing cuz its incredible visually repetitive. There'd some nuance in the conflicts in skyrim, Nords vs the empire. and then the elfs. Everything was basic bitch fantasy in 4
@@nemeru3352 yes you fight Dragons...that all act the exact same and are easy as balls, the combat being more flashy literally means fucking nothing, the magic was always fine, dual wielding added nothing to the game other than added fake complexity, you can become a Vampire, Werewolf, Wereboar in Daggerfall so that's not special in the slightest, again that doesn't matter, implying that Skyrim isn't visually repetitive XD, there is no nuance and on top of that you literally didn't even give examples as to why you think they're nuanced. You say that but Skyrim isn't basic bitch fantasy? Meanwhile ignoring the fact that it has dragons which are literally as basic as you can get for a fantasy setting? And let's not forget that Skyrim has less content, less features, dumbed down the gameplay to where classes don't fucking exist, wasted our time with two main plots that mean fuck all and have no effect on the world, one plot is so poorly written that they go out of their way to make the Stormcloaks out to be the biggest assholes on the planet, etc. Skyrim was a completely shit game that has no charm or personality whatsoever and their half-baked attempt at pleasing the people who liked Oblivion with adding Sheogorath but worse than how he was in 4 was pathetic.
@@nemeru3352 Skyrim is and was shit. The quests, the gameplay, the dragons... the nuance(in a game where I killed the emperor and joined the Imperial Legion shortly after).
I think it's just that charm that won me over Oblivion over Skyrim. The charm of it's quests and stories is just more better in Oblivion. Skyrim is mechanically better in term of polish, gameplay, and system but sadly it has no charms.

Face visuals will kinda lack but it has some neat mechanics like custom spell making that were cut in Skyrim. Plus the Shivering Isles DLC is really well done. I liked both games but atmosphere wise I think Oblivion had more diversity. Don't forget about mods (if on PC) to spice up combat a bit, personally using Deadly Reflex (:
This takes me back. I loved the Shivering Isles DLC; it was great to see a new location so far removed from the style seen in the game. I hope they do something similar again.

One of the games that defined my childhood. Soundtrack brings back so many memories. As much as I wanted to love Skyrim, I never did. Oblivion will be my favorite forever
I remember it being orgasmic experience when i first exited the sewers back in the day, but now the game is almost unplayable because of bad combat and boring story. Music is still mind blowing though.
Amazing stuff as always. The Elder Scrolls games, despite being a buggy mess at times, just have a way of enchanting you and making you fall in love with the worldspace. Jeremy Soule's music in the last two surely plays a large role in that. Thanks for the review.
@@williamj.6418 Needing to change to a torch every five seconds would be dangerously counterintuitive, for sure. That's why being able to wield a weapon in each hand is a blessing (torch and one-handed sword/axe/lance or dagger), and if you can use spells that emit light that works too.
I love Oblivion, way more than Skyrim. While Oblivion was certainly a step down from Morrowind in many ways I actually enjoyed exploring and finding cool things. That and every dungeon didn't feel the same like they do in Skyrim. In many ways I found the story stuff between Oblivion and Skyrim swapped. Oblivion's side quests rocked and main quest sucked, Skyrim's side quests sucked and main quest was way better.
Oblivions Soundtrack is just about the only one that actually makes me a bit teary eyed. Like I don't know if its because I associate memories with it or because it's just that good. I will say it has the best OST of ANY Elderscrolls game and possibly any RPG ever made. #fightme
While the game is extremely flawed, it's also the game that got me into "adult" RPGs. Without it, I'd never have played Fallout 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Divinity Original Sin, etc. And it's certainly better than any game Bethesda has made since.
I can’t wait for more Elder Scrolls reviews! Morrowind on Xbox was my first experience. I can still hear the music and see the rain droplets hitting the surface of the water. I remember getting the ability to jump clear across the map lol. Plus I had the boots of blinding speed with some trinket that offset it and let me see.
@@TheMofos32X I wouldn't doubt that at this point, since I know too little to argue for or against it. At least it's nice to be free from the system where you have a risk of missing, something that would only have a place for aimed shots or V.A.T.S.
My experience with oblivion was, trying to find way my around the world, dying at everything I try to do, painfully grind to level up as at the time I didn't know enemies scaled with you. To then die easily to the same ememies anyway, then wake up and find out I have vampirism and when I try to cure it, it also turns out the quest for it is glitched and I had to start a new save

Face visuals will kinda lack but it has some neat mechanics like custom spell making that were cut in Skyrim. Plus the Shivering Isles DLC is really well done. I liked both games but atmosphere wise I think Oblivion had more diversity.
Don't forget about mods (if on PC) to spice up combat a bit, personally using Deadly Reflex (:
...Uriels Son is not Jaffrey...
5:30 ???
...???...
This takes me back. I loved the Shivering Isles DLC; it was great to see a new location so far removed from the style seen in the game. I hope they do something similar again.
“Joeffery voiced by Sean bean”, that’s some nice irony
I'm playing through this game right now coming from Morrowind (and haven't played Skyrim yet) and I honestly can't see how much better The Elder Scrolls series gets. This is just the peak for me and I don't know how Skyrim will change that.
Through the wonders of streamlining the series lol
"The enemies scale and leveling up doesn't make the game easier."
10 seconds later...
"Once you level up the game becomes too easy."
I've noticed more and more overtime that gman isn't actually that good of a game reviewer lol
@@majik5194 I just watch for entertainment
@@majik5194 No reviewer is perfect but Gman is one of the, if not the best reviewer. You probably think he is bad cuz his opinion doesn't match with yours.
I lost my job and my girlfriend the week before getting this game, schedule cleared in perfect time to enjoy the best RPG ever made.
honestly ive never ever used a premade class in oblivion or morrowind
Haha. Same. Custom is where the fun starts.
people who use premade classes are Neanderthals
Love you're reviews and love what you do. Keep up the hard work man!
Man, hearing the main theme again gave me the warm fuzzy feelings.
8:32 Reminds me of the 2008 Pirates of the Caribbean game. Pushed out way too early because Disney wanted it to come out around the time of the movie release. You could be standing on a Spanish held island, talking to a trader with a french accent who would curse the brits and then continue to ask "Can I help you gov'na" with a British accent.
When your Oblivion review comes out before Half-Life 3 in 2019...
*BY THE NINE!*
Gmanlives graces us with his immense knowledge!
Seeing a mudcrab the other day almost makes you wish for nuclear winter.
Comment "Arrow in the Knee" if you like Skyrim better or "Have you heard of the High Elves" if you like Oblivion better.
Have you heard of the arrow in the knee?
man even watching videos of this gives me nostalgia of being 15 years old
05:28 "Uriels son Jauffre" .. you mean Martin? Jauffre is like the monk dude you give the Amulet of kings, and the secret boss man of the Blades.
The dope overdose is real and lasting...
I literally began replaying oblivion two weeks ago
Same
I literally didn't. But I feel that metaphorically I may have.
thecowofbeef I did but only figuratively
One of the games that defined my childhood. Soundtrack brings back so many memories. As much as I wanted to love Skyrim, I never did. Oblivion will be my favorite forever
(2:23) Well, who is _that_ strapping Nordic fellow? ;)
A milk drinker
one of the best games of the 2000s! Great review, love the new font for your channel in the intro haha
TOP 3 FOR SURE
I remember it being orgasmic experience when i first exited the sewers back in the day, but now the game is almost unplayable because of bad combat and boring story. Music is still mind blowing though.
True!
Story still better than Skyrim and F4 at least.
Amazing stuff as always. The Elder Scrolls games, despite being a buggy mess at times, just have a way of enchanting you and making you fall in love with the worldspace. Jeremy Soule's music in the last two surely plays a large role in that. Thanks for the review.
I loved the dungeons in Oblivion. They reminded me of ZORK.
At least you don't have to deal with actual grues, just their Tamriel counterparts. No reason not to have a light handy though!
TheBreakingBenny/ I don't know what you would do without the light ring. What switch to a torch every five seconds? Pft.
It's Martin, not Joffrey.
Try the baldur's gate series if you havent yet!
I was fascinated by it and chose to get the Fallout Trilogy on GOG.com when it was free.
16:48 --> I didn't know, that Erling Haaland has an appearance in this game :D
This game sure had some funny voice acting.
You make a character before talking to Uriel Septim.
@Heidrosign I didn't mean to sound negative, it's just something small I noticed. Still great video, and one of my favourite games.
I love watching your reviews so much... especially love how you cover older games. You're awesome, keep it up!
*Insert quote from Oblivion here*
1:35 hearing that music still gives me the chills...god i love the music in The Elder Scrolls.
"Hold on, let me do that again"
_- Yep, that sounds good! Nobody will catch onto that!_ said the voice director and guys managing the game data for a Gamebryo game.
@@TheBreakingBenny Truly the *best* Elder Scrolls game.
@@TheMofos32X I wouldn't doubt that at this point, since I know too little to argue for or against it. At least it's nice to be free from the system where you have a risk of missing, something that would only have a place for aimed shots or V.A.T.S.
Seriously, i would love to see you review every Elder Scrolls. Its about time you did this!!
Gman, don’t want to startle you, but...it’s 2019
Back in the day, I put hundreds of hours in to Oblivion.. really, really liked the game.. good review..
oblivion > skyrim
Oblivion=Skyrim
The Dark Brotherhood missions where very memorable to me in Oblivion. So good!
Oblivion is a *masterpiece* , only the scandinavian aestetic and modding keep me in Skyrim.
True
My experience with oblivion was, trying to find way my around the world, dying at everything I try to do, painfully grind to level up as at the time I didn't know enemies scaled with you. To then die easily to the same ememies anyway, then wake up and find out I have vampirism and when I try to cure it, it also turns out the quest for it is glitched and I had to start a new save
careful you may get blacklisted by Bethesda
sarcasm or not, that wont happen (game is old af)
Big up for those 222 k subscribers mate, i always loved that number! Gmanlives for eternity and beyond!
