    In 40k fluff there is something called post-human dread. Basically, ptsd aliens get after seeing space marines in action. And after playing Space Marine, you start to get why that is.

    • @TherealTenmanI
      @TherealTenmanI 4 года назад +35

      Fucking humans get post-angel-dread.
      There was one story, might have been fan fic idk, that the people got invaded by orks so they prayed for the emperors angels. The angels came. And turned every street into a torrent of wrecked greenskin flesh and blood. Every wall into cover or a flanking position and so rubble. Then they burned the rubble.
      They removed the green tide, and for that the people thank the emperor... and they pray He never sends them again. The Emperors angels of death.

      I seem to recall it being written as transhuman dread in the novels, but that's just me being picky.
      "Nothing human-shaped should be so fast, so lithe, so powerful, especially not anything in excess of two metres tall and carrying more armour than four normal men could lift. The sight of an Adeptus Astartes was one thing, but the moving fact of one was quite another. The psychologists called it transhuman dread. It froze a man, stuck him to the ground, caused his mind to lock up, made him lose control of bladder and bowel. Something huge and warlike gave pause: something huge and warlike and moving with the speed of a striking snake, that was when you knew that gods moved amongst men, and that there existed a scale of strength and speed beyond anything mortal, and that you were about to die and, if you were really lucking, there might be just enough time to piss yourself first."

    I just don't understand people who don't get that weapons in games need to "feel" good. Sound design is SUPER important and you almost depend on it completely to sell what you're seeing on the screen to the suspension of disbelief part of your brain. There's nothing worse than wimpy sounding weapons or big guns that have no subharmonic "boom" to them. I don't know, man. It just does something wonderful to your brain when you hear an awesome weapon sound. ;)

    What i like about the Warhammer 40k universe is that you can play any of its games with no particular order, even if you dont follow the timeline or release date of each game, its enough that you understand the lore of the franchise.

    • @01What10
      @01What10 9 месяцев назад

      Your not wrong. There are so many battles, so many massive wars in the 40k universe that each one is it's own campaign that could and has filled entire books. But That sheer massive aspect makes it easy for new people to jump right in.
      The biggest events, like the Horus Heresy happened some 10,000 years before the present of the franchise. And the newest big events, like the Indomitus Crusade are still happening.
      New fans can easily jump in and get the cliff notes or delve into the deep lore and novels if they want.
      I think it's one of the things that makes WH40k so accessible.

      As someone who’s played the board game, read a few book and played multiple video games in the WH40k universe - charging headlong into the enemy and blowing half a mag on 1 kill is not what it means to be a space marine.
      Working as a team and laying down a constant and withering hail of bolter fire while dealing with any close quarter threat quickly and efficiently I would say better encapsulates what it means to be a Space Marine.
      For me, playing GoW on hoard mode was it. Working with teammates to cover all angles, hitting that perfect reload and wrecking tons of enemies before they even get close. Then being able to hold you’re ground with the executions. Only falling back once boss enemies show and then using experience and skill to kill your enemies greatest champion.
      Space Marine is still a great game tho. I really wish they’d make a sequel. :(

Wish I could revisit it if my Xbox 360 didn't die from the red ring of death and PS3 is just too old and poorly taken care of (cause I owned it when my brothers and I were little shits, haha) to work anymore. This game was host to the greatest instance of tactical co-ordination I’ve ever had with a random Versus player. We were both using Heavy Bolters in Team Deathmatch (or whatever that mode was called). Our teamwork only lasted for a few minutes, but it turned the match around. We were so precise together, I made diagrams of most of the maneuvers we made. And I still have those MS Paint diagrams, I think.
    In other games, it’s rare to co-ordinate such fire and maneuver with my *friends.* And I’ve played with those folks for years. Hell, it’s rare to see that level of teamwork happen outside of e-sports. Yet this instance happened organically, with no mic chat, in a WH40k game.
