Just a tip from someone who works professionally with 3D printers: just use a pot with hot water and put the parts in for one minute. Then you normally can easily pull of the supports (sometimes depends on the used material). Just make sure it is not as hot that the parts also start to bend/deform.

Advice I got was to start with hot tap water, and if it doesn't do enough, add splashes of boiling from a kettle until it works.
Another good option for longer pieces is a hair dryer, they can direct a pretty solid and controlled amount of heat.

Hey there King, some of the print texture is very hard to remove and it would require a lot of time and effort, but the best way is to accept the model for what it is - a raw 3D print (and that already makes it pretty unique!). It's also surprising how much can be hidden or obscured by paint :)

I recommend getting a 3M 7502 mask with some P100 filters, or equivalent. When sanding, do it wet. Protip from someone who handles 3D printed resin models, albeit not tank ones, at my work. The bottom hard piece the supports are attached to is called the raft, and we often break that into pieces before beginning to remove individual supports, as it makes it a little easier to get at the more interior supports. The supports attaching it to the parts will often break off the parts with the raft pieces before the parts break (with obvious exceptions when it comes to more delicate parts).

The level of detail on the larger vehicles never got close to this, and there was always a copious amount of having to de-warp large hull panels. Set me off ever looking at resin, honestly.
I will say, I would miss the fun of assembling plastic kits, I'm one of those who really enjoys putting 800 pieces together over a week or so in the evening, but seeing the technology at work really excites me in regards to aftermarket bits, the barrel especially, but also turret options for rarer versions of vehicles that already have solid hull kits out there.

I can't wait for the day when I can just buy the model kit I want and 3d print it on my own resin printer. I have printed many different scale items for my RC Hobby on my printer. Looking forward to where this goes in the future!

Nothing more satisfying for me than putting the parts together.
If they came in a low part count I would find another hobby.
Thankfully I'm sure companies understand that so even if this is the future they will still cater for us that enjoy construction.

Looks awesome and, as always, you do an excellent job. I saw this at the Saumur Museum and it is a truely impressive beasty, even in the company of other post war tanks and the German 'Big Cats'. Knowing I can buy this, even at the price, is a real temptation, plus, with my time constraints, the low part count is a bonus. To any tread heads on this thread, if you can make it to Saumur (in the heart of wine country!) try and get there. Same goes for Bovington in the south of England. Conveniently, both are in really pretty parts of the country which might ease persuading significant others a lot easier😁 I fitted a day trip in from Paris (thanks TGV) while my wife visited the Medieval French museum and shopped in Paris.

I've had a Elegoo Saturn printer for over a year. I found that if you put the parts with the supports in warm/hot water for small amount of time you can bend the supports and they will easily separate from the main pieces. This will save you a lot of time.

Hay man LOVE the chanel and content. But to get rid of sprues one of the best tips I found was putting the model in hot water for a few seconds. They pop right off after that! Hope this helps!

To fix resin pinholes or even to weld broken pieces you should purchase a small bottle of resin used in MSLA printers. You can apply a drop with a toothpick to fill in the hole or even to hold pieces together and if use a UV flashlight to instantly harden it. Then you can sand it down like normal.

A tip from someone who does a lot of resin 3d printing- if you have an ultrasonic cleaner that has a heater function, or have some heated water, and let the supports soak, they'll be infinitely easier to remove.

A tip for removing supports quickly is to place the item in warm water as most supports will be warm and be easier to remove, bend, etc…

If you put the pieces in hot water the various support will come off easily. With most type of resin it works

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  3 года назад

Indeed, I've been told the same thing. However I had a bad experience when washing the model with soapy water, the moisture made the tracks "soft" and grow in size. I forgot to mention it in the video, but luckily, the "shrank" back to their original size. So I'd rather avoid it with some fragile parts, just to play it safe.

    • @shadow7037932

No, that's terrible idea. It will soften and deform the resin long term. Don't do this.

    • @shadow7037932

@@NightShiftScaleModels You are correct. Hot water deforms the pieces. Bad idea to use that "trick".

@@shadow7037932 I always do that and it never deformed in the long term, could be the type of resin

  • @swdw973

Having a hi-res resin printer . . . The problem with separating the tracks was a print setup issue. They could have set a parameter to place the tracks further off the base, making access to the sprues longer and easier to remove.
As for the panel lines. it depends on the resin they use whether or not the panel lines will come out well.
This is a learning process, and since they are new at this as a commercial endeavor, they still probably have to work out some issues.
