That bridge fell apart like popsicle sticks and silly string were holding it up. Prayers for those involved.
Not sticks , steel and concrete. Boats the problem. They could build bigger caisons.
You seem to be not understanding of the massive size and weight of that boat. 8 knots with a boat that size will do damage easy, especially to a support structure.
@@Sanic55 exactly, look at skyway bridge caisons . After that bridge accident they are much bigger now so when ship hits it won't reach bridge.

How does an entire bridge collapse over a ship hitting one of the support columns?? You’d think with all of the engineers required to build something like this, they would anticipate something like a ship hitting it. Doesn’t make sense.
It was a power issue buddy reported by the ships crews (they don’t know if that’s the only reason) it was also hit by a ship that was 984-feet long, and 213 million pounds which was to much for the bridge to handle
do you understand how heavy a freaking ship is
R.I.P For those who died including my grandma and my aunt
God save the poor souls on the bridge.
too late
Seems the ship approached the bridge on course when it left the dock but shortly before going under the bridge it steered to the right and hit the support. Seems weird as there should have been a pilot guiding the ship out, the ship had been there before and the bridge did have plenty of lights on it. Wonder if technical issue. The ship weighted over 95,000 toms plus it's cargo of approx 10,000 containers, so it would have been near impossible to stop it in time or correct the corse error..
It either lost steering or propulsion as it approached the bridge, possibly both. Yes, it would have had a harbor pilot on board, mainly to help them exit the river and enter the bay a few miles beyond the bridge. This looks like a series of failures to me.
@@chrisdraughn5941 Ship lost power. Lights went out twice. Watch video
In another video it showed the ship lights shutting off at least twice prior to impact. This suggests the ship was experiencing power failure prior to impact. Large plumes of black smoke pouring out of the funnels too. Maybe the engineers were trying to reverse but it takes a long time to stop a fully loaded cargo hauler in water.
This is just speculation based off that video though. I'm sure more information will come to light in the coming days.
Possible sabotage. Our country is under attack. This bridge was named after the author of our National Anthem.
@@DerpyPenguin4747 Yes, I just found a much higher resolution video that showed the ship’s lights going dark and coming back on. They also dropped the port-side anchor and tried to slow its forward movement by going into reverse. I suspect that’s what caused it to turn into the pylon. Perhaps they would have stayed in the channel if they just let it drift? I’m sure it was a tense and chaotic moment on the bridge.
My prayers are with those missing this is major that bridge was a life line for so many I also want to thank from the uk the brave emergency services on the ground
Captain called authorities before the crash to let them know they lost steering control. Not sure why they couldn't get a couple tugs out there to push the vessel out of harm's way. Scary how the bridge collapsed so (seemingly) easily.
Or drop anchor?
Who was driving the boat? Where’s his picture?
So sad and scary that one ship could take the whole bridge down.

Why don't they show how the barge made a sharp turn straight into the pillers?..
People still in the water. Container ship trapped in bridge wreckage. Baltimore Harbor closed. Figure 1.2 trillion to replace bridge. 10 Million lost each day harbor closed.
No way 1.2 trillion. But clearly politicians and mates will be taking a nice cut of any bridge replacement sadly.
That ship company or employee will pay a lot of if corrupt, the tax would be used.
It's a recovery , they are dead
What a tragedy! That ship needs to be hold accountable! 😡
They will. It’s absolutely on the captain. The only thing that will get him out of this is if his engines went down about four minutes before they hit the bridge. But the bridge itself was clearly not well designed the fact that hitting one part of it took the whole thing out is pretty ridiculous.
@@elizabethstanley4541 Or the pilot. In those waters the ship would have been navigating under instructions from the harbour pilot. But this looks like a mechanical problem rather than human error.
@@mirandahotspring4019 the human error came when they didn’t close the bridge immediately after that ships power went out and they did know immediately because the ship had to have been telling the port authority what was going on. They waited to the last second to stop the traffic from driving through and that is why that crew was left on the bridge. If they had considered the lives of the people working on the bridge, they would have absolutely stopped traffic the minute the power went out on that ship. Everyone who was on the radio and was there focused on the situation knew that the minute that power went out that ship was more than likely going to hit the bridge no matter what they did. They were way too close to the bridge. Already to have any issues.
@@elizabethstanley4541 Why don't we wait until the investigation is completed and made public before blaming people.
It does take time to put plans into practice. But there were vehicles with flashing lights on the bridge before the ship struck the pier.
From the sounds of it, the ship lost propulsion and the ship sent a mayday to the shore telling everyone they had lost control of the ship.
You just never know when your last day can be 😢
That had to be intentional
Yeah sure, it was a boring day in heaven so god reached down with his finger to a random ship in a random part of the world and gave it a tiny flick...
Why didn't It go up under the high part, instead of straight into the support beam pillar.

The bridge did not collapse on its own as so many videos say, it was hit at the pillar causing the bridge to be dismantled.
All the videos give the impression that the bridge was in a bad state that made it vulnerable leading to its collapse.
I hate bridges in general because of this idk if I’m ever going on a bridge now if there is a boat/ship under it
My nephew is in the Navy, I just got a text about this a few minutes ago. His comment, he thinks this is deliberate. A passage of a ship under a bridge is carefully calculated. There’s something nefarious about this you watch. IS TAKING DOWN THIS BRIDGE A WARNING SIGN?
No, you're a paranoid idiot. The ship lost its engines and power twice, as seen in the full video. They tried to steer away after the first power loss but lost their engines again.
It wasnt deliberate. You literally see the video of the crash. The ship was having electrical problems. Lights on the ship was turning on and off. They was trying to get the electric problems fixed. The current pushed the ship into the pillar. It was too late for the ship to get back on course.
@@TheBlazersfan22 these days anything can happen. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. But it had to be with great force to bring that pillar down. do you think a current pushing ship that sign over to the left into that pillar would be that strong. I’m sure we’ll find out
@@TheBlazersfan22lmfao just because it was having problems, doesn’t mean it wasn’t intentional
Why is the barge not floating in the fairway?
Ok, so the ship looses it's bow light(s) when it first colldes with the bridge, but strangely the entire ship is in total darkness, no lighting visible whatsoever along it's entire length...Very strange to see...onboatd power or electrical failure...??? 🤔
Ship lost power and engines twice before the collision
That’s just terrible going 8knots and to collide into the pillar.
Can't believe they don't have the pillars of the bridge guarded
Well maybe now they would be adding those for future bridges
Stopping a 100 tons would be incredibly expensive
@@jrdavis8062 well right off the bat we can tell you don't have a clue what you're talking about! A 100 tons try more like 165,000 tons. And protective bollards are the norm for most bridges these days and yes they can stop a ship
Many modern bridges do have protective surrounds of piers. A very similar event happened to the Tasman Bridge in Hobart Tasmania decades ago. It was / is made from reinforced concrete not shabby looking steel sections.
@@deannelson9565 So, it wouldn't be expensive?
That bridge went down rather easily, bridges should be built to withstand accident hits but ships and boats.
This would be similar to a mac truck carrying a load of concrete running into your house and people complaining that the house should have been built to withstand it.
You can see the construction vehicles on the bridge and them falling when it collapses so scare and sad! Hopefully they look into it and the propulsion was the problem because the ship did come from Japan?
Why didn't they drop their anchor?
I look at that, and wonder why they never protected those supports with a man made break, consisting of those star shaped concrete constructions they use around breakwater’s etc, like concrete Tank traps. Or some other protection. Placed around the pillars at sufficient distance away would have stopped that ship. 😔

Was it on purpose?
Absolutely. It corrected the steering before it hit. My gut says the immigrants they let in are starting their attack.
I think so💯😡😡😡😡
I noticed that the ship light were on but then went out before the impact then on again at the moment of impact. Strange.
Whoever was steering the ship may have lost control somehow and couldn’t change the direction of the ship or stop it.
@dtksoulchaser1 Why would immigrants be responsible for this? Being a sailor like this would require months if not years of training, and knowledge of the routes boats take.
no it wasn't
I believe I will do tomatoes and cucumbers in my new 4x4 garden bed with marigolds. What to you all think?😊
Looks to me like the power was lost a second after impact. Not a minute before as reported.
Why are there cameras looking a video on the ship when it collapsed that seems like they just put the cameras there other than bumped into it to be cool
I hated bridges under water ima hate them even more now.
From a long video of the collapse it appears that traffic was shut down at that time.
They probably got word to close the toll booths.
The only people on the bridge were probably construction workers and police directing traffic around the work area.
It’s incredible that this has never happened before. There can be all kinds of undercurrent in the water that can easily move ships like that especially if their engines go out. When were they radioing for help because their ship was well off course before it ran into the bridge.
Who's ship and did they do it on purpose?
I dont remember whose ship it was but it wasnt on purpose it was a technical issue
Relaxed regulations and complacency no doubt.

@@controllerbrainyup… that THING
The workers can be accounted for. They clocked in this morning so the company knows who is missing. So family can be notified. Such a tragic incident. Those cargo ships are huge. And hard to control. But it looks like the bridge wasn't very securely structured either. It just crumpled so quickly. I hope everyone is found. Maybe a suspension bridge can be made in its place and made higher for ships to go under. Pray everyone is found. So sad this happened.
I saw the video and I find it odd that it turned TOWARD the bridge plus they're happened to be workers in the middle of the bridge to clear traffic....... also where was the tugs or pilot inboard to navigate through as required and FYI diesel fuel doesn't ignite so I hope they do an investigation
It didn’t turn, it lost power and current took it.
The reason workers blocked the bridge is because the ship sent out a distress signal and the bridge was warned before it was hit.
How has this not happened b4 now , human error is a very real thing?
Yes it has. Florida YOU CAN RESEARCH BEFORE SAYING DUMD SHIT

Dear geechi, I believe they are asking about this bridge not the one in Florida...😆
Your car ever break down
That bridge collapsed like a cheap erector set.
It's because of the design of the bridge. They're sturdy if the supports are there, but all of those metal supports are under load, so once you lose that one support, the whole structure is gonna go. I read that the bridge has been standing for 47 years, so it wasn't badly made.
@@JanGoh-jb5ge or it’s because it was intentional
Was the ship on fire were there other boats there in the water
I hope it was a mechanical error and not negligence from the captain. Good thing it happened at night when there were a lot fewer people on the bridge. It could have been a lot worse.
“A lot fewer”… jfc.
Ship Captain and his engineers have to be questioned
