  • The front yard is finally done! Okay…I can hear you say ‘NOT!’… that you know me better than that. Truly, a garden is never finished, yet I feel the bones are now in place and I can play with perennials and annuals. Enjoy!

I am amazed at the landscape transformation, all in addition to unpacking. You had surgery, sold your house, moved, set up much of your interior, put in an entire front landscape, shot videos, kept up with QVC stuff, and who knows what else. You are just unstoppable!

Hi from Annie the garden looks lovely and everything seems to be growing well. I think it would be nice to add a small water feature of some kind even a little pond with lilies and frog statues etc, it sort of makes things nice with water around, as in the theme of air water earth fire etc

As I'm watching this video (plant shopping - how fun! ) I have to make a comment... as someone who works in a garden center, I just want to say thank you! I really appreciate the fact that you are putting plants back exactly where you found them. I can't tell you how many people sit plants down that they've decided they don't want in random areas. This creates 2 problems... one is creating extra work for employees to put plants back where they belong, and two, the plants often miss their watering cycle and end up drying out and dying. So again, thank you for putting the plants back where you got them!

I had to plant in gummy soil today. Had to be done! Just had a major re-do of my landscaping, now putting in some of the "final" touches filling in beds that are now devoid of the old, overgrown shrubbery. It is still a work in progress. My nurseryman who make excellent suggestions for varieties of the plants on my list said to get the canvas prepared, then fill in. Linda Vater, you have been such an inspiration to be bold and go ahead and try something, and do not let the bullies in the garden push you around! Thanks for all you do!

Everyone commenting has expressed how I felt about the before and after of the front cottage garden., though I would like to add the semi circle garden on the rolling terrace just frames the house perfectly and the large tree on the left is a quarter circle garden bed mirroring the opposite is good for framing the front part of the garden. I have enjoyed how these design ideas have developed as you have assessed the structure and aesthetics from different angles. As always enjoyed your energy and chatting and Stuart's encouragement.

Suggestion for your umbrella...when you put it down, wrap a bungee around it to hold it tightly closed...because, years ago I had a closed umbrella on a deck...the wind still got in it enough to send it across my acre and a half property. From then on, I wrap it closed with a bungee cord so no air gets up under. And, everything you've accomplished us just beautiful!

Hi Linda and Stewart. In regards to the two planters at the top of the stairs that are the same size as the ones at the bottom of the stairs, why don’t you just put the upper ones on stands and make them higher? Just a thought. And the front garden is spectacular, I particularly love the way the grass at the front has been finished with the circle around the stairs. It’s beautiful and a fabulous design. Suggestion for the urns at the top of the steps: Build a plinth out of brick and paver, echos the look of the pavers at the bottom of the steps (they look to me like they have brick under the concrete paver). For the 2 urns on the top section of stairs, you can adjust their height by setting them on pedestals so they are different in size magnitude than the ones at the bottom of the stairs. I love how comfortable you are in your new yard and i love your design. I think the umbrella is very distracting, I actually had to rewind the video because I was so focused on the umbrella that I missed the rest of the view. I also think that the triple topiary in the center of the front door makes it feel unwelcoming, as if it’s blocking anyone from being allowed in. Other than that, I just love everything.
