First time I seen Priest, they opened for KISS in Sept ‘79 (Cincinnati OH). Hell Bent For Leather (Killing Machine) Tour. I IMMEDIATELY went out and bought a few of their albums. A few weeks later, Unleashed was released. I seen them a number of times after that. Always a great show. Thanks for posting.
Completely agree with all you said and that was exactly my experience. One of my older brothers had all of these albums, so in 1980 as a 15 year old , I had a plethora of great albums to explore and some of the greatest music of all time.
@14 and 15 in '79 and '80 unleashed, British steel and hell bent were absolutely great albums !!!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟 Priest only did one canadian stop for hell bent, the almacombo a friend of mine was there, he remembers drinking quarts at the show 🤟🤟🤟🤟
Judas priest was huge hear in Tennessee, all over America! I bought their early greatest hits album, It was awesome! I didn't know they had so many good songs from the late '70s and before 1982! They have a hell of a catalog!!!!
@ChazinFl1 wow, I had no idea, never heard of that before! I would love to see that. I used to rent a video at the video store would you just priest videos and it might have had some live footage I'm not sure but it was cool, It might have just been their videos! I love that VCR tape that you can rent! Ha ha! Oh the 1980s!!!!
Great story great video..Screaming was my FIRST concert ever, I had discovered them first from Unleashed in the East album was a Christmas present from my oldest brother who already had Sad wings of destiny and then mtv was playing you’ve got another thing coming AND breaking the law. Saw the screaming for Vengeance tour in fall of 82 I believe krokus opened I’ll have to dig out the concert ticket stub for verification 🤘🖖✌️🎸🎸🥁🎤
Heavy Metal Evangelists! I like it! Great article. I'd never heard this story before, also, it's good to hear a story written by a person that doesn't hate them. Sad Wings was my introduction, and I agree with you, and your take on it. A true classic! I think Unleashed is one of the best live albums ever! 🤘🔥
Oh Godz thats a hoot, no bus, no chopper, i can just imagine the guys laughing, standing on the side of the road with their windswept thumbs in the air flagging down a ride! I remember a quote from Scott Ian 'this album was the one that shook off their last shards of The Blues' .He could be right, or perhaps he was refering to them toughening up their sound and trimming the fat off their more lenghty , progressive '70's style, but i think they were always very good at that, and lyrically , overall, much more fascinating than currently (except 'The Lodger' from Invincible Shield, thats downright creepy awesome) , 'Savage' for instance from '79's 'Stained Class' , adressing the plight and experience of the Native American's from their point of view a few years before Maidens excellent 'Run to the Hills'. anyway another good show Rob.
Me and a good friend of mine saw Judas priest at Starwood amphitheater in Nashville Tennessee it seated about 18 or 19,000, They really rocked! It was on the album that had parental guidance on it, think 1986, Was that summer, oh yeah they had a big wall in the back up on top of the hill where everybody's sat, we jumped the wall, we didn't pay for many concerts at Starwood!!!!!! One of our friends couldn't get over, too drunk, he sat in the car the entire concert!!!!
Nice story! I thought I knew everything about them, then this first time hearing. First album heard was Killing Machine must have been in 81, was 8 years old, brother of 13 played it over and over then Sin after Sin and Sad Wings. Hated it. Then he got Vengeance, then Defenders and by 85 I was hooked. Took me awhile to rid myself of all pop radio hits (was great fan, still is, of Boston though). Personally collected all albums on vinyl up to Painkiller between 88 and 91, everything except Rocka Rolla. Still the pride of my collection. Will put in conserted effort now to get Rocka Rolla on vinyl and then all the Angel of Retribution and beyond stuff. Wish me luck. 😂
Funny I can’t remember if I got BS or UITE first. I had BS on 8-track. Blown away by the sound. Steeler still one of my favorite tunes from this record and the era.
Ive never seen m , … Had tickets as a freshman in high school… RUSH-Judas Priest and Uriah Heep - $8.75 ga , but was playing drums that night inna band at my high school
I discovered the back catalogue before it was the back catalogue

I agree. UITE is the best live metal album ever
The album cover for 'Judas Priest • 30 Years of British Steel ' features a blade that does have blood on it.
I saw that! Interesting!
I have a photo of Rob onstage with the sub machinegun.
Awesome! Do you have it posted somewhere?
