I was a Family Physician but had to take early retirement due to illness.
I became ill in 1988 and have been ill without any definitive diagnosis nor treatment in all that time.
I have deteriorated precipitously in the past year.
    I am in Canada.
I have really pushed for further investigation over past 6 months and finally saw a rheumatologist 4 months ago - 5 minute appointments / no history, no examination. I pushed for investigation for Sjogren’s syndrome and this was done - reluctantly - and I had to pay out of my pocket for the blood tests. Results are positive - but no treatment, no follow up offered. I was given the results in a 2 minute phone call.
I am really ill and with each passing week become more ill.
I hope people are getting better healthcare on other countries.

I recommend going to a university hospital for superior care rather than private practitioner who seems disinterested? This was extremely edifying as to wide range of systems affected. It took nearly 30 years for my diagnosis as the incidents of seemingly unconnected symptoms were sporadically spread over literal decades. It was actually the sudden appearance of purple toes that inspired my podiatrist to suggest a rheumatologist. I have always been careful about diet and exercise. My only complaint for years was my eyes, but my then opthalmologist was markedly unconcerned. Then in spite of regular dental care, my teeth were cracking and chipping.... Yes to vitamin D, upped dosage from 2000 iu to 5000 and awful fatigue seemed to disappear overnight! Thank you all for this clarity on the puzzle wrapped in an enigma!

My issue, here in the US, is getting 'doctors' to be invested in my healthcare....I put doctors in quotes simply for emphasis....I have seen plenty of doctors, and basically have to beg them to treat me or follow-up with me despite extreme worsening symptoms over a period of over a decade...
