    Good to see a RUclips channel doing PC harware bench marks with a focus on Sim Racing. Most will focus on Cyberpunk/RDR2/SOTR in a 1440p single screen setting but sometimes you want to know what a potential upgrade can mean for a triple screen 1440p setup in games like iRacing and ACC. I remember thinking moving from a 5600x to a 5800x3d was not worth it until I stumbled upon a video of someone playing ACC with the same GPU as me but the 5800X3d as a CPU. He was hitting 40 to 50fps more while using the same settings (I was on a 34 wide then).
    For the people wondering about the performance of the 7900XTX. I did a quick online test session at Valencia using almost the same settings (some still left on Epic) and in the dry it was between 145 and 160 fps (had it locked at 160). Also checked to replay on the same track of a full grid race in cockpit mode. One in the rain and one dry. The dry race was still between 145 and 160 fps. Rain was a little harder with some dips to 130 on the pit straight. That is okay for me because I always lock to 120 fps. Now go give this man a sub!

      @@racekar80 I'd say get an Nvidia card in the same price range. I'm also on a triple 32" playing iRacing (1440p) with a 7900XTX and am dipping into the 60's when it rains at the start.
      I like AMD and when it comes to non RT performance, the AMD GPU is going to be the best beng for your buch in terms of perfomance. iRacing is different because there is a setting that AMD user can't use and it impossible for AMD to compete in this game. Sadly, I bought my XTX before I got into iRacing.

    Good video, nice work. Just want to add that the foilage on the new or renew iRacing tracks is just frame killer. Try foilage on high on Okayma with 30 cars with your setting, (that are the same that I use, on 5120x1440p with a rtx 3080) and you will see what I mean. I had a race there full of stuttering just because of the foliage. Hungaroring is another with foliage issues ! Maybe the 4080 have enough power but not the 3080 Ti.

      @@BenchmarkOdysseys yeah so just wanted to give an update on my switch to 1440p with a 4070ti (12gb) and triple monitors on iRacing. I get an average of 80-90fps on the higher end and drops to 50s in the 1%. I was really expecting 3080ti results but was really let down. I switched back to my 1080p monitirs shortly after making sure it wasnt a driver issue or GeForce update issue. Windows was up to date. Idk why i got such low fps. My only guess can be that the memory bus on the 4070Ti being a 192bit bus is not meant for triple monitors. On the other hand, the 3080ti has a memory bus of 384bit bus which is why it shines. Im sure now that 4k triples with a 4070ti is not ideal.

  • @h1tzzYT
    @h1tzzYT 4 месяца назад +2

    Well most likely reason why 3080ti performed so well at certain scenarios compared to 4080 super is because of higher memory bandwidth.
    3080 ti 384bit memory width resulting in 912gb/s total bandwidth
    4080 super has only 256bit memory width leaving 736gb/s total bandwidth
    I guess certain scenarios favors this spec of gpu's, where the bottleneck becomes memory management not the capacity.
    Talking about vram capacity it might also nudge the performance a bit in case where 3080ti getting close to ~80% ish range, for anyone wondering, gpu's never have 100% vram utilization, windows always leaves some headroom for background stuff.
    For example acc triple 4k scenario where the 4080 super has sizeable framerate advantage makes me think that vram capacity is the main bottleneck, if you check other triple 4k test you did 3080ti either matches (which is super impressive) or have very lean ~10% disadvantage despite being 30% slower in "normal" gaming tests.
    Very good test and super happy you tested triple 4k res as i use it myself, im currently using rtx 3090 so extra vram is super helpful here. Im actually very surprised that 3080ti had such close battle in this resolution. I guess in this case 4080 super is absolutely not worth it and is barely a upgrade, its either 4090 or rtx 50 series.

      @@d.o.5238 4080 (super) is awesome for "normal" gaming especially if you are upgrading from older gen like rtx 2080, but in this case its just not enough. 4090 is awesome but for some reason it got expensive, i remember when it was available for ~1600€, now it starts from ~1850€ despite aging as time goes on. • @BenchmarkOdysseys
      @BenchmarkOdysseys  4 месяца назад

      Thank you :) I'm working on the iRacing video which has more detailed results. It appears that the 4080S is actually 'too fast' for the 13700K in several situations, and the 4080S often struggles to get +80% because it's waiting on the CPU. The other sims I've tested are less CPU-focused with their render/physics engines, and as a result, they lean into the GPU more.
      So, unfortunately, the GPU Busy is a moving target that changes per sim... and your CPU matters!

  • @d.o.5238
    @d.o.5238 4 месяца назад +1

    My guess for the root cause of 3x1080p anomaly is that the old AC engine is severely CPU-limited which results in 4080 not being fed with enough stuff to render in time, dropping the clock speed while being idle, and ending up with worse performance. It doesn't happen with a single screen 4K because that mode is less CPU-intensive and you don't hit that CPU bottleneck you hit with triple screens and a big grid Nords replay. At higher triple screen resolutions, the GPU has to render more pixels and doesn't get idle for long enough to drop the clocks.
    I think if you set Power management mode option in Nvidia control panel to "Prefer maximum performance" it will stop dropping the clock speed when idling

    • @BenchmarkOdysseys
      @BenchmarkOdysseys  4 месяца назад +1

      Great question. If you were looking to increase the FPS, you can:
      (1) Decrease the image quality settings within each simulator, such as world detail, car detail, track textures, etc. I perform my testing at mostly 'High' settings but not maxed out. Lowering these settings could make the objects around the track more simple, reduce the complexity of your opponent's car, dull the environment lighting, and things like that.
      (2) If the simulator supports it, you can enable DLSS or FSR which will render the sim at a lower resolution, and then upscale the image to your monitors running at 4K. This technique will produce graphical anomalies, usually subtle but always present. I've noticed the red/white rumble strips blurring into the asphalt, ghosting of your opponents cars, and smearing of the digital gauges in your car.
      Running Triple 4K will mostly affect the GPU, but there's still a increase to the CPUs burden. I have seen some unusual results within iRacing and Triple 4K with the 4080S. I'm trying to validate the results and have a more detailed video out in a few days.
      Using an Nvidia card and enabling it's Surround display with G-Sync, and that may present the smoothest racing experience. I believe it's possible to still have a 4th monitor, but that will take some tinkering. I have yet to test a high-end Radeon with Eyefinity and FreeSync, so I cannot recommend it until I try it first hand.

The utilization was %50-75 compared to my old 3080ti and the performance was nearly the same. I do play in VR that has a high resolution ( 4330x5100 per eye) so its like the triple 4k in pixelcount.

I reinstalled windows and the game and finally, my utilization is better but the performance uplift is not like I have seen online. it's around %5-20, not %35-50 what I was hoping for. So,I have a 3080 ti with a 5800x3d,would you recommend going to 4080s?I mainly play sims,iracing lmu etc3x1440 monitors at 120hz

      If you're itchy for more performance, my testing suggests a 20% uplift from 3080ti to 4080s with Triple 1440p. Personally, I don't think that's worth the price. So I suggest waiting to see the RTX 50 series Q1 2025.

      @@BenchmarkOdysseys Maybe it’s better to go for the 4090,I can find one for 1800€ .I think for simracing would be good for next two three years.My biggest issue is on wet conditions,I have a massive fps drop.What do you think?

    • @BenchmarkOdysseys
      @BenchmarkOdysseys  Месяц назад

      iRacing has made recent changes to graphics for Wet racing; I expect them to introduce further optimizations this season. As for 4090, yes it is the best right now, but it launched 20 months ago and we are just 6 months away from 5090 and/or 5080. Those will likely be difficult to acquire and expensive, but perhaps +25% faster than 4090. Only details available now are rumors.

      @@BenchmarkOdysseys Yes I know about 5090 but will the 4090 be enough for the next two to three years ?

      @roadrunner_77 While using a 5800X3D? I worry that you'll become CPU bottlenecked, perhaps even if you buy the 4090 today. But especially in the future as the simulators evolve in complexity.
      Bleeding edge components require other top-end components to perform. For example, it doesn't make sense to buy a 14900KS and use it with a B760 chipset and mediocre RAM. You pay extra for the fastest Intel chip, but you cannot tap into the elite performance when paired with mid-range parts.

    You should be running a 13 gen+ intel on windows 11. I believe 10 doesn't have the ability to fully utilize the amount of cores that new processors have.

      Yes, I will be updating all my testing platforms to Win11. The gains with Windows scheduler for P+Ecores 'should' only be marginal. Cheers mate!

    I have a 4080 and trying to decide if I should do triple 1440p or do triple 4k. Based on this I’m inclined I can run triple 4k and a decent frame rate. CPU is a 7800x3d. Can anyone chime in?

    • @BenchmarkOdysseys
      @BenchmarkOdysseys  4 месяца назад +1

      What size monitors are you thinking? My triples are 28" and that's a bit small for all the detail offered with 4K screens. But my monitor stand is on wheels, so I can move them to my desk and use for general computing. Most people think 32in and larger is where 4K shows it's advantage over 1440p.
      Performance wise, I think the 4080 can pull off triple 4K, perhaps with some small sacrifices with graphics quality. If you are able to run Gsync or Freesync, that may smooth out the experience, although it's not always easy to set up.

      lol yes! I've already tested ACC with 7900 XTX and published a video for that analysis. iRacing has been more tricky but I think I found a way to present new data. Stay tuned!
