Props to you for putting yourself out there by revealing the cost of all of your mods and purchase price of the car. I'm sure it was a good exercise for you to put the whole build into perspective from a total cost standpoint.
Really, no flex detected. I have a stock 92 NA mariner blue, that I restored, and back to stock, of course it needed paint I've put in just about the same, with no mods, but a new interior, paint, top w/glass, uncracked dash swap, new fender and door, and a bunch of comfort stuff. More to come as well. So keep up the good work!
Just subscribed brother nice video. I gave my friend $5,500 for his crashed NB.lol The car was a super clean turbo with a built engine. He had over $12k in it. Engine put down 386whp. I then got a $300 shell and swapped everything over. Drove the car for about 4 month. Broke 3 transmission and heads are at the machine shop getting rebuilt again after frying the valaves. 😂 I still love it... I do about 95% of them work my self. That helps the budget but your right. This is an expensive hobby.
My 00’ Ls was 3,500$ in ca with 94k miles. Had in even compression so wound up throwing a valve job/water pump/timing belt/head gasket/plugs and wires/coil pack/camshaft position sensor/oil change/air filter and a valve cover gasket. .... whew. Good thing I did all the work my self except the valve job. But she runs perfectly now and I am happy. Good to hear people saying that you paid a fair price in case I gotta sell mine I can make money maybe.
I’m at 7500 so far on my 1999 nb Miata. Racingbeat header, aem cold air intake, Isr spec exhaust, tein coilovers, all new bushings and new motor mounts, and x brace under the car, 15x7 wheels 🛞. The car has 112k. I plan on a roll bar and mega squirt and possibly a turbo kit as it’s just a weekend fun car.
This is a great video. I have been viewing this car in recent times and with this video I now know what it would take to get this car performing at optimum level. We also have to bear in mind when building a car it's not a race to see how fast you can do it because these things takes a lot of money. Its about taking your time getting there and when you do it, it will be well worth it. Good content and all the best with this beautiful ride
Add a Skunk 2 intake manifold, shave the head a tiny bit to get 10.75 : 1 compression ratio and you should be at 150 whp and about 125 ft-lb of wheel torque.
@Lilian Cartera just go turbo or supercharged if all you want is power........If you want to keep the miata "pure" then be my guest and drop $4000-$6000 into an "all motor" build.
I liked your honesty and humbleness, so I just subscribed. I have a 2011 NC Sports, bought in December of 2015, at the time I thought to had overpaid, the car had 73.000 miles, and I paid 10,000.00 (flat, out of the parking lot), but, the salesperson was the same guy who's got the car for the dealer in a trade in. Well, 73.000 miles in 4 years is a lot, BUT, the owners were an old couple, who traveled the US driving a RV, pulling the Miata behind. I took the car to my mechanic and he was impressed, and said that probably out of the 73.000 miles, about 25.000 were really driven. The dealer put a new top, because the old one was dried, new windshield, the old one had lots of chips on it, because of the small pebbles tossed back by the RV, and brand new tires. the car has 166.000 miles now, my daily driver, no major issues, burned light bulbs, coolant reservoir cracked (old) and I installed a Moroso aluminum one, rolled the fenders, running Continentals all weather 235/40 tires on 17x8 Sparko rims, OBX exhaust, BC Racing coil overs set for street use, and use only synthetic oil since day one. I had nothing but joy so far, and don't regret a cent, spent on it. "Miata Is Always The Answer."
Very nice! I know how crazy it can get money wise. I’ve got 20K in my 01 Miata and it’s not even boosted yet. Wheels Tires Air Ride Roll bar sound system engine powder coating exhaust intake soft top hard top bikini top spoiler headlights body kit it goes on and on. Yours is very clean it’s just money we build what we love.
Your Miata looks great man. You didn't overpay. For comparison, my stock 02 S2K with 100K miles cost me about $11k on the east cost. I think you've got a pretty sweet "low mileage" and modded Miata for about the same cost.
Dude, you're good. The prices for what you've done are nothing crazy at all. Like, my Legacy, I think I tallied up a good $6000 in it. (God I hope my gf doesn't see this) Wheels and tires I think I spent about $2200 (The wheels were only $800 for four 18x8.5 Enkei TS-10s, nothing crazy even) The tune I spent $500. The catback about $500. The suspension was Koni shocks/Eibach springs, Subaru Group N Top mounts. I ended up around $1200 for that. Front grill painted with mesh I spent probably $350. Endlinks and way bars around $400 I believe. Headlights $375. $200 in VLEDs for swapping all the halogen ones over. I didn't even mention brakes and rotors :| People spend $2000 shipping over rear windows with wipers so they can have JDM goodness. Making me seem pretty sane. I'm happy the NB mods don't break the bank much at all. I can't wait til I find one.
Not to bad if you enjoy it. My 03 silver w/33k purchased 3 weeks ago for 5900, already have 1k in tires, brakes, tune up, fluids. Still need to lower it, wheels and exhuast cuz she's completely stock. So yeah, have fun with it, you only live once!

The amount of pride really shows, from the car's condition to the parts list, It's one hell of a build and I'd be proud of it too ^_^ I completely forget, is your NB the model with the VVT? I know mine has the 6-speed and VVT, but I'm wondering if a 5-speed was an option on VVT cars (Sounds like a dream combination to me!) On another note, those Bilsteins you put in are gonna last EASILY for the life of the car -- my 18 year old factory Bilsteins still ride like new! Now only if I could find a roll bar for that price, haha!
U paid a great price for a miata in such good condition. The dealership wouldve charged 12000 for one in that condition. One tried to get me in an automatic with maybe a little more miles. I went and gave a 4500 for one with 114000 miles. And it wasnt as clean lol
Yeah I got the 01 SE for 1200 but I’ve already dumped 2gs into her in six weeks. Anything in California under 100k miles is about what you paid for your car. You did good! That’s why mine has 200k ⛵️🦇

The prices of miatas are so different from Europe, I've got mine for about 3k euros with 100k miles on the clock. Its even crazier in the UK, you can get a fairly clean NB over there for 1000-1500 pounds

Nice video but I don't get why you emphasize this being so expensive? Modding cars will always cost more than a few grand. Modding Miatas are very cheap. 11 grand for all the mods you've done isn't really much. No one's gonna look at your Miata and think you're rich lol. So I wouldn't even worry about people judging you for spending "so" much money on it.
Hope this video helps out some of you! This is not meant in any way to be a flex or gloating video and I hope it doesn't come off that way. Enjoy!
