    I have so much to say about this song. What a journey…
    - First, the production sounds distinctly different than their more recent work. And I don’t see George Lever’s name attached to this one. I think Vessel may have produced this himself! Interesting if that’s the case.
    - The TONE of this is absolutely haunting. THIS RIGHT HERE is what I loved about the first two EP’s. This has that certain uncomfortable jarring creepy atmosphere that Calcutta and WTBB had that I wished to hear more of in their work and they fucking delivered here.
    - Vessel II has evolved his playing! I have always been a fan of his work, but this is new territory for him. He’s typically so busy and full of bombast. But this shows a maturity and a more delicate approach I wasn’t expecting. Still so full of color and expression but he’s not overdoing it. He’s doing some clever ghost notes and dancing across those open hi-hats but he’s got a restraint that makes those big POPS so much more impactful. So tastefully played.
    - This whole song is VERY gospel-inspired, I think. And without going in to spoiler territory, this makes sense and I really REALLY hope this is an indication of the tone of the new record. This dark intense atmospheric gospel sound is so fresh and unlike anything else out there. I love it. I’m here for it.
    - Lastly, the influences are so unexpected. I definitely hear a little bit of that Justin Chancellor “Tool” sound in the first third or so. It’s those long drawn-out rattles and the swelling density that just builds the atmosphere to set up the rest of the song. But then suddenly they zig when you expect them to zag and they veer into Portishead territory for a moment before they conjure up some Vildhjarta guitars that sound like a swarm of angry hornets before settling back into this Hozier-like second “verse”…. Like… seriously, how does one even begin to write a song like this??? On paper, it sounds crazy to describe a song like that. But they execute it flawlessly.
    Anyway, this is the end of my TED talk. I just needed to get my thoughts out somewhere. These guys are unreal.
    WORSHIP.

      According to Genius, it was produced by Carl Brown who has worked with bands like Machine Head, Bring Me the Horizon, and Bullet for My Valentine.

      @@_piccoloser very interesting. I was curious about that. I love their work with Lever, but you can hear a distinct stylistic change here. And that has me excited. I like that they’re still willing to try something new and evolve. There’s no limit to their creativity.

    I’m new to Sleep Token and I absolutely loved this! That voice!!! So grand, eerie and full of power. The tone throughout the entire song also reminded me of TOOL way back in 2002 when I saw them live. It’s hypnotic and epic at the same time. The melody choices as well as the syncopated rhythm really hit the spot for me. So much left to discover. Thank you! ❤

    1. I love your way of reacting - the perfect merge of raw joy of musical experience, with nuanced knowledge of the intricacies of music and how you’re hearing it.

    I saw them live a few days ago, it was incredible. They opened with this song, which was an amazing experience. The moment Vessel started singing, I realised he really sounds live just as good as on recording, then band joined in during the heavy moments, incredible stuff.

      So, here is the thing about your request… As you might imagine I get a lot of requests and recommendations coming my way, and if I were to do all of them as a reaction video I wouldn’t have time to do anything else in life! 😅 So, what I do is I send my brother recommendations to let me know whether he thinks it’s worth a reaction video or not as he and I share similar musical taste. Obviously I can’t listen to the song myself as that would spoil the genuine reaction. Unfortunately, that song didn’t get a thumbs up for a video from him so I won’t be making one for it. I will however give it a listen in my own personal time and ping you some text as to what I thought, but unfortunately I won’t be making a full reaction video for it. I hope you understand.

    • @SteveOGRock
      @SteveOGRock  Год назад +1

      So, I’ve given it a listen now, and it’s a lovely song… but I agree with my brother that I don’t think there’s enough in there to sink my teeth into for a full in depth reaction video. It’s fairly sedate. Pretty, certainly. But not quite something I could commit my limited time to. Sorry my dude!

  • @isnobodyreally102
    @isnobodyreally102 2 года назад +4

    Honestly the opening "synth" sounds like a bass 100% for sure. And yes very tool like. For those who listen carefully to tell you can hear where he mutes the string to stop the ring out killing it on the lower note. So defo a bass.

    • @SteveOGRock
      @SteveOGRock  2 года назад +1

      This is a good shout! Bass does allow for more of a natural noticeable rattle as well.

    • @isnobodyreally102
      @isnobodyreally102 2 года назад +1

      @@SteveOGRock there is a touch of electric piano synth in the backround to round it out. You can hear it changes notes against the bass. But cool sound regardless.
