@@r.sadler323 im a white guy who grew up in subarbs but w/o a father in my life... im in my 30s so my generation grew up on 2000 era rap among other music but rap has held popularity for sooo long and for me its something that i gravitated to even more so as i got older and it got more and more into the most thug gangsta rap that came out over the years, GUCCI WAKA LIL WAYNE KODAK ppl always would question why i listen to that because theres nothing about my upbringing that i could identify... i think i knew this somewhere in my head just couldnt put a concept together, cuz we had normal amount of black ppl and i was close friends with a few of them, shane, runnie, rashad... we would chill and smoke after school all the time... it was an interview with CW and jesse lee peterson when he talked about how the problem with black youth and gangs and the reasoning of why they join, it all stems back to not having a father in their life... like i said i understood that but something just clicked in my head... thts why they join or want to join they are craving this thing thats missing i ntheir life... its why i vibe w gangsta rap so much, its why after meeting my latina GF whose parents still live in the hood, i realized just how much in common i have with hood youth growing up and why i felt a sense of peace there... i not only didnt have dad since 6 in my life but my stepdad came into my life exactly like CW says when i was around 12/13... i had tons of subtle but traumatic shit go down growing up... i deal with all my mental health BS as teen and adult smoking weed and other drugs... its ALL what black youth especially gang dudes go thru... the subarbs middle class is FULL of cookie cutter families who have mom dad brother sister dog suv pool etc... everything is perfect it might not be inside but even the big problems they may think they have are miniscule to what i was going thru having to live a life with so many things missing but have to be around all them growing up... i always had a weird sense of not belonging in the subarbs. like CW i dont agree gangs are a good thing or even gangsta rap even but its something i dont think i will ever stop listening to not all of it but the stuff i like because just like black youth joins gangs and listens to that music, its something they identify with among each other the gang provides them 100 different things that the missing father could only dream of giving them... the music just adds a them song to it all, luckily there was no gang culture where i grew up because looking back i dont see how i wouldnt have joined one.

54:35 This happened to me 3-4 years ago when I went to stay at my cousins'. A drive-by shooting happened at the house but the culprits actually wanted to shoot the opposite house. The thing was both houses were identical. I asked my cousins why we were the only ones the cops were talking to in regards to the shooting and his reply was, "black people don't talk to the cops around here". I was dazed.
