This is a film that I believe will become a Christmas classic that we show our kids and they show their kids. In regards to Margu and the Saami, the filmmakers actually found a Saami girl to speak the language. SO what you hear is the Saami language. The Saami are indigenous peoples of Scandinavia whose culture and history inspired elements of Frozen and Frozen II.
I love this movie on so many level, starting with the amazing cast, to the beautiful visuals, not to exclude how they went into minute details every little bits of xmas magic such as to why he goes through chimneys, milk and cookies, flying slay, the coal, straight down to the word “Jesper” written on the slay. This movie is an instant holiday classic whether you believe in Santa or not.
Fun fact: Klaus is a 2019 English-language Spanish (Spain) animated Christmas film written and directed by Sergio Pablos in his directorial debut, produced by his company
My dad is obsessed with this movie. He literally made my whole family watch the movie with him haha. It’s so good!! We been watching it every December since it came out.
so glad you are watching this movie, it has become me and my wife's favourite Christmas movie, and the song "Invisible" by Zara Larsson was the song we used as we walked up the aisle after the ceremony, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did
Invisible is a wonderful song, and true! This movie is now a staple in my Christmas movie collection. I watch it at least once a year. Gets me every time.
“Into the Spiderverse” started the trend of having 3D animation being overlapped with 2D textures. This movie does the reverse of that! Truly a gorgeous masterpiece
This is my favorite Christmas movie of all time. I like how it derives from other Christmas movies with the postman’s and letters and small town transformation
I like how the reveal about the presents at the end explains why Klaus was so pissed at Jesper. It wasn’t anger at being “used”, but rather “we had a plan and you screwed it up” lol. Hence why he immediately invited Jesper back onto the sleigh after the reveal
I was surprised by how good this movie was too. As a Swede I suspected it might be set in Scandinavia or Russia but wasn't sure, then when Margo showed up wearing that all too familiar Saami dress I've seen irl on the natives I was like a saami girl? where did you come from? it gave it away lol, adorable little girl.
Oh, my God! You're finally reacting to this movie! I swear this movie brings out happy and sad tears in equal measure in me! This is easily one of my top three favorite Christmas movies! Merry Christmas to you, Mary, and may the New Year bring you golden tidings!
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was created by Robert L May in 1939 meaning Rudolph was never ever part of the Actual Santa Klaus Lore...Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was created as a pitch to Sale more Coloring Books during Christmas but Robert May decided to Give Rudolph a Story and Robert Used his own past bullied Childhood Experiences for Rudolph's backstory and when one day, he was looking out the window during a super thick Fog and was only able to see a flashing Red Light in the Fog it gave him the Idea for the Red Nose to act like a Lighthouse Beacon and now you know the truth about how Rudolph came about and with the Succeses from the Story the Commercial Money Market Could make a ton of money if they instill/insist to Children that Rudolph has always been a part of Santa Lore but was Hidden/Removed from the Lore due towards everyone's hate of his Red Nose back in the Past
A bit of trivia- Smeerenburg (loosely translated as “Blubber Land” ) is a real place. It was a whaling settlement founded in the most northern region of Europe in 1619, and was eventually abandoned by 1660. The little girl and her tribe are the indigenous people of northern Europe called the “Saami “
The sailor, Mogens, was one of the last roles of comedian Norm MacDonald before he passed away last year. He’s mostly known for his stand-up and SNL careers, as well as providing voice work such as Death from Family Guy, Norm the Genie from Fairly OddParents, and Pigeon from Mike Tyson Mysteries. REALLY funny off-color sense of humor and his sarcastic voice is always a warm welcome to hear. RIP Norm. ❤️
Fun fact: A lot of Christmas traditions come from a lot of other cultures. For example, in ancient Germanic (and maybe Norse, not sure) Culture, Odin was basically Santa.
Something interesting I noticed just now is that hair color differentiates the different types of people. Redhead Ellingbows, black haired Crums, and blonde/white haired outsiders.
in real life, (historically) families from way far north (or any place where small settlements are spread out very far from each other) would have festival type events once or twice a year at an agreed meeting place, where they could then go and basically try to find a spouse from another settlement to come back with them, as far as i know I'm guessing thats what the ellingboes and krums do here
3:18 From that look alone, you can tell the Sergeant knows Jesper is gonna be sent somewhere awful. It's like he's going "Oh shit, this is going to be a bad posting." I fully intended that pun. 26:53 I heard "Alva". That's the only part I understood. I think she was saying "good evening"
Probably too late for this year, but if you haven’t seen it you should put “Arthur Christmas” on you list of holiday stuff to watch. Adam Sandler’s animated holiday movie “Eight Crazy Nights” is a fun watch, as well. 👍🏻
Jason Schwartzman is the son of Talia Shire (Adrian Balboa from, the Rocky series). Nephew to her brother (obviously) Francis Ford Coppola (director of The Godfather. And cousin to Nicholas Cage (who's real name is Nicholas Coppola - his father is brother of Francis and Talia). Jason is from Talia's 2nd marriage to producer Jack Schwartzman. Her first husband was acclaimed film music composer David Shire (All The President's Men, The Conversation, Taking of Pelham 123, Zodiac). Jason Schwartzman's half-brother on his father's side (Talia's 2nd husband) is John Schwartzman - who is a well respected cinematographer (The Rock, Armegeddon, Pearl Harbor, Jurassic World, Amazing Spider-Man) . Jason started his acting career with director Wes Anderson as the teenage star of Wes' second film "Rushmore". Jason is also the drummer of rock band Phantom Planet. There's more Coppolas too. Such as Francis' daughter is director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation). His son Roman Coppola is also a director.
"what was Christmas before this?" Drunken parties. Some places outlawed celebrations then because of all the drunkenness' and problems like brawls associated with it.
this is a movie about how Klaus became The Spirit of Christmas where The Spirit of Christmas is "The Wind" hence how Santa Klaus knows everything about what Children all over the World say and do Day and Night and how He travels and able to get into people's houses Because He is a Part of The Wind
Before it became the holiday we know today, Christmas was just a bank holiday people sometimes used to get a day off. That changed largely due to A Christmas Carol.
I think this was the best origins story for Saint nick Klause. Krause was meant to be Saint nick he just needed a trusted mailman to get the message and joy.
I've noticed some similarities with this and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town: -Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is narrated by a postman and there is an implied relationship between Santa and postmen. -Both take place in miserable towns that are ran by douchebags. -Said miserable towns start to improve due to Santa's influence. -A teacher is a love interest.

I know Jason Schwartzman was Gideon from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and also a LOT of Wes Anderson movies. If you’re up for reacting to them, I highly recommend it! ❤️
Hooray!! You're watching this!! Also, I'm betting that the Kroms and Ellingbows had people from outside the island come in. After all, Alva and Mogins moved in.
Hi Mary Christmas Since it's the Christmas Season I Recommend a Classic for the Holidays Called Scrooge From 1970 Staring Albert Finny It Puts you in a Holiday mood Because It's a Musical. I grew up watching this and this is what puts me into the Christmas spirit. 💯

Klaus wasn't magical til he died. He was just a kind human
I like seeing Saami representation in this, and Margu is so adorable.
The boatman was voiced by Norm Macdonald in his last role released while he was alive. He sadly passed away last year
Awesome comedian
May he rest in peace.

@videohistory722 No, it was a winter wedding in February this year, but we loved the song so much we just had to have at our wedding

"But scary."
"...like Santa!"
great reference lol
After watched this movie when it came out. It became my favourite Christmas movie
The feud in this movie is based off the real life feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys.
That is how I described the feud to my folks. I told them, "The town is populated by two families, one of which is named Hatfield."
This is THE BEST Christmas movie ever made

Norm Macdonald was the voice of the boat captain. You have seen him in Billy Madison. He was Billy's taller skinny friend named Frank.
This movie is such an instant classic.

Theory: If the two heads of the factions are on first-name basis’, could they have been friends/lovers/other at some point in the past?

The real irony is Christmas didn't become truly "magical" until Klaus disappeared.
Watching movies about Santa is always nice and sweet. You should react to Santa Clause is comin to town (1970) 🎅

Rushmore
Shopgirl
Darjeeling Limited
This movie is what I'd call a 'modern classic'. It's new but doesn't feel explicitly tied to when it was made in any way.
I have a theory that Mr. Klaus might be the descendent of Saint Nicholas
