DO NOT DRINK THE SALT WATER - ONLY GARGLE IT.
Salt is a mineral composed primarily of sodium chloride, and it can come in different sizes and shapes with different trace elements that may influence the flavor. But essentially, salt is sodium chloride.
Salt therapy has been used for hundreds of years as a simple and effective solution for managing respiratory conditions including sinus congestion, sore throat, and mucus problems. Salt has antimicrobial properties that can combat various pathogens, making it a powerful natural remedy.
When it comes to mucus, salt attracts water into the airways, which thins the mucus and makes it easier to cough out. Inhaling sea air, gargling with warm salt water, taking a salt bath, or creating a mini steam bath are all easy ways to benefit from the power of salt therapy.
For people with chronic lung diseases, a nebulizer is often prescribed. This device uses a water solution called hypertonic saline, which is a concentrated salt solution that helps to clear mucus from the airways.

I bought a salt lamp which has salt crystals and you also put water in it. I fill it with salt water (Himalayan pink salt) it gives off a vapour, which fills the bedroom, so I am breathing salt air all night. I have had a chronic cough for 3 years, X rays CT scans courses of antibiotics, nothing worked, and no cause found. 2 weeks with the salt lamp and my cough has gone.

I believe the salt recommendation is 1/2 tsp to 8 oz of warm to hot water.
Note: The reason I'm saying 1/2 tsp is because 1 tsp of salt may be too salty for some as myself. If you have laryngospasm the salt might irritate your throat and close as it did to me. When something irritates my throat, whether that be a very sweet candy or too much salt my throat will close from thirty seconds or more until the muscles in my throat relax and start to open. Can't breathe in that time and a little scary.
Not too scare anyone but for some 1 tsp is ok, it's just a precaution to some.

Could be gastritis and your valve not closing to your stomach. If this happens mucus will protect your throat from the acid from your stomach but at the same time causing asthmatic respiratory problems. I just started using mastic gum with many saying it takes care of the acid reflux. I’ll update. Someone comment to remind me. This has been ongoing for 9 months with 3 trips to ER with what I thought was a heart attack, then twice I could not breathe. Chest X-rays were clear. I was so confused as I was coughing up mucus but it was from the throat and it was constantly making more. Hope this helps
