My younger sister had chronic, severe asthma. It was before inhalers or any kind. We nearly lost her a few times to a severe bout. She was taken into a home for lung affected - tb, asthma, etc for a period of 6 months. Each day their beds were wheeled outside as the facility was right on the edge of the sea. Unless it was raining they stayed out there for a few hours each day, no matter how hot or cold. Her lungs improved dramatically. Eventually she was able to have inhalers, which also took some of the fear away. In time she became completely in control of her asthma. So much so in fact that the local pulmonary clinic will advise patients on her methods and means of having a very normal life. We recently celebrated her 70th birthday and she spends a lot of time on the beach with her grandsons.

It's been standard practice in the USA for 100 years to iodize table salt. The need for iodine, supplementary iodine if it's inadequate in the diet, is not discussed much because it's taken for granted. Some people get the idea that either salt is bad for them, or salt with supplementary iodine is bad for them, which may be true for a small fraction of people, so they skip it, when for the vast majority we could just buy a cardboard jar of iodized salt for about a dollar every year and be good.

It's ENORMOUSLY unhealthy the air quality and indoor air yet is even more unhealthy than the outdoor air. Crazy to think about. Another great item to look for is called a salt inhaler. I bought one at a local shop, but when I went back to buy one for my mom they were out and I ended up buying it online and there are several places to purchase it. It's a little ceramic pot with a curved tip. The cylinder ceramic pot holds salt and the base is full of small holes so when you suck a breath in through it it's pulling microscopic particles of salt into your lungs and Airways to help dry it out. I don't get sick real often, but I have found that that definitely helps me get better quickly when I do.

An ultrasonic humidifier will deposit mineral impurities in the water that will cover objects in the room.
If you add salt to the water it should suspend salt particles in the air so you can breath them.
However the salt might clog up or corrode the machine. Everything in the room will be covered with fine salt powder which can be corrosive.
Better not to run it all the time.

Another form of treatment is salt inhalations. Boil water, put in a heat resistant boil add salt-dissolve and lean into the water deeply breathing in the salt water while draping a towel over your head…all for 15 minutes. Adding essential oils, like eucalyptus is beneficial too.
Access to a sauna can also help.

I live in Mesa Arizona there is a shop near me that sells Himalayan salt. They have a little breather that you put the Himalayan crystals in. You shake it up and breath air through the crystals like an inhaler. Every since I've started using this seven years ago my asthma has gotten much better.

I have sworn by salt to rinse my sinusses for years., invested in the kit containing the squirt bottle once. Dissolve 1/2 tsp of salt in slightly warm water. Never fails me! However, sea salt is no longer as pure as we would like it to be. Best is to use Himalayan Pink Rock Salt

Thanks, Dr. Berg, time and time again you seem to know exactly what I need to find out. I remembered suddenly few days ago my Mom used to put saline solution up our noses when we were little and sick , coughing, or stuffy noses. I had just recalled that when I needed to handle my current congestion or sinus mucous issue. Then within an hour I saw your posting on this use of Salt! Marvelous!!! Inspired by your knowledge and help, I am now breathing again freely.
    So thanks again!!!!🥰🙂

Sea salt is beneficial in every way. This word Halo propably comes from the word άλας or αλάτι. Άλας is the root word for αλάτι which is more common in daily life here in Greece. Nice video again Dr B.
It has been over 20 years that I haven't felt ill not even for a little, and beisde all the 'tricks' I know I enjoy sea salt in almost everything I consume.

I, also, never had the flu or a cold! 64yrs and heading to my beach! Thankfully it's only 19 miles away!

I'm a severe asthmatic ( my lungs collapsed when I was a teen) and as a child the doctors always told my mum to sit me in a steamy bathroom to help with my asthma , but I hated it because it always felt like it made my asthma worse, I felt like I was suffocating. Similarly, every time I went to my grandparents house which was around half an hour from the ocean, I couldn't breathe properly, I got asthma every time and if we went to the beach I felt the same as I did in a steamy bathroom. As an adult I moved inland to a small town that was a very hot, dry place and for the first time in my life, I barely used my ventolin puffer and even had some expire which shocked me! A few years ago I had to move back near the coast, the first couple of years were bareable, I had more asthma than id had in 10yrs in the dry climate but it wasn't terrible, last couple of years its become really bad again. I just wonder why the dry seems to be so much better for me when every other asthmatic I talk to gets relief from sea air etc? And what can I do about it when moving back inland is not an option? If anyone has any answers that would be great! And If you got this far down, thanks for reading lol

I also live by the ocean most of my life and it didn't help my mucus problem any. I have now moved Inland and it's no different I also went to Arizona to visit my sister where it is dry and it made no difference. I've been gargling with salt and water for years and that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference either, what am I doing wrong.

I watched Dr Berg’s other older video about salt. Afterward I went on Amazon and purchased a salt inhaler. It cost somewhere around $12 and came with a packet of Himalayan sea salt. Instructions have you breathe in through the mouth and exhale through the nose. I found that if sinuses are your problem spot, then hold one nostril shut and breath in through the other with the nozzle up to your nose, switch back and fourth. It really opened up my head!

Use the best available, pink salt, sea salt. Usually has tons of minerals/nutrients. More nutrients/minerals than the salt in the container. Himalayan Salt, pink salt due to not being bleached or processed with chemicals/heat. Not really salt, mostly minerals.

With pink sea salt: drink a warm quart with a teaspoon dissolved first thing in the morning - also you can make a hot wrap if you have a fever, by soaking a towel in hot salt water and wrapping it around you. I sometime soak in the bathtub but the water cools off too fast in the winter.

I've always had problems with my sinuses. My go to is a small bowl of warm water big enough to put your face in, add salt, then snort it and let it drain out your nose and down your throat. The first time you do it, it will burn a little but that goes away. It really cleans out my sinuses. Been doing that for years.

These RUclips videos are SUPER GOOD & you are SUPER KNOWLEDGEABLE...you know about A LOT of random medical stuff...down to very minut details and I love how you break everything down. You explain everything to the audience in a very easy, concise way. I also like how you have incorporated the use of the whiteboard...while discussing the various topics as a medium to help people: visualize, process, and potentially write-down or record the different categories/subcategories of information. That totally reminds me of college/University and tbh, I was wondering, are you a professor? And if not, have you thought about teaching?
Thank you for creating such great content and for taking the time to share your incredibly valuable knowledge with us!
    Cheers, Lea

I discovered a use for salt that I would like to share. I'm one of those people who when they cry gets a red, swollen, stuffy nose that stays that way for quite awhile and looks terrible. I discovered if I put a little salt on a qtip and rub it around inside my nostrils, the problem disappears and I can breathe normally again and don't have a red swollen nose. Thankfully, I haven't had to do this in a while.

Otolaryngologist says I have acid reflux in the throat causing a build up of mucous on my larynx to sooth it. Causes me to constantly clear my throat, losing my voice, can't sing anymore. Prescribed omeprezole but took ACV instead, intermittent fasting, keto. No hearburn.
