Very good crime 'thriller' for 91 years ago. How many ideas that were fresh then eventually came to be seen as cliches? It's nearly impossible to hold a large backdrop behind such movies that remind present viewers what the world was like at that time. Thank you for posting this movie!

Wow, first time ever seeing Evelyn Brent. Her acting reminds me a lot of my favourite actress of all time, Barbara Stanwyck!

I saw her for the first time I recall yesterday in The Silver Horde. I've never had an actress remind me so much of Barbara. It's downright uncanny!

A comparison that has been made many times...similar roles and "tough gal" performativity. There is also yet another "Vixen / Moll star", Priscilla Dean, whose career started in 1912 and was one of Universal's top stars in the late 1910s and early 20s. Dean bears a resemblance to both Brent and Stanwyck. View Priscilla Dean in Outside the Law (1921), and see the remarkable performances for yourself, though silent you can almost "hear" Evelyn Brent or Barbara Stanwyck talking.

A 1930 winner! Good acting, snappy dialog, decent sound, and a good print. Look for an ultra-young Joel McCrea as a waiter!

very good, compelling plot given that it is an early sound movie. Evelyn Brent is a revelation; her almost horizontal styled eyebrows add to her tough character

Evelyn Brent was highly attractive, in a mature and knowing manner. She was no naïve Sandra Dee. And she was still sensual 15 years later in the republic serials.

maybe it's just lighting and a coincidence but this guy has a funny right eye that twitches a lot. never noticed until re watching trying to find the part i paused by random @ 33:55 for a couple "frames" his pupil looks vertical. it took me a while to find it again and this is when i noticed all of the twitching and excessive blinking. classic. 😂

Where is William Holden? He was in the credits. Born 1918
and this movie was made in 1930? He was 12? Was there a paper boy I missed in the movie?

Isn't it sad what a pulsating, throbbing, heart-on will do to a man's brain??? Not a bad movie overall, had a believable plot, interesting.

Not very good acting in this ... sad to say. Actor's marks throughout the film were off cue, and dialogue was read literally right off the pages of script.😢

So, Rose seeks to get her revenge on McArther , the dirty cop, for murdering her father and gets involved in a gang ring to achieve this, and ends up being his daughter in law and all is forgiven? There's something lopsided in this story, and it wasn't in Rose's favour.
