When I had the farm my brother remarked that "Every farm has at least one door propped shut with a stick and as a farmer you do a lot of work that you never actually get paid for." True enough.
Snow is coming soon. Good to see Abby home nearing completion. Those 2 years went by like a blink of an eye. She has gained so many life experiences with a great mentor in Jay.😊
P.S.We got our calendar two days ago.Pics are very nice.I was going to leave in envelope until end of December, but too many doctors appointments. The byproduct of advanced age😊
HI JIM & BRENDA. - HORSES ALWAYS KNOW WHEN THEY ARE HEADING "HOME"! I had to chuckle after your delivery to Abby's house & got back on the road, Earl & Baron's gait picked up CONSIDERABLY & they even cantered/loped for a bit. When you've been around horses for awhile, you can really HEAR their cadence without even having to see them moving, literally! The Suffolks' are really making a nice team, no matter who is in the traces!! I really enjoy watching all your horses at work. Thank you for sharing & God bless..❤😊❤😊
Did you see the smile Jim has when Brenda said what a wonderful team these boys are to drive? Pure pride for Jim and very well deserved Jim. I love you guys. You work so well together. My hubby and I were the same when we were younger. We plowed commercial businesses and schools for many years, Laid sod together, and hauled ties together. It's so nice to see this. We are in our 80's now ad long since retired. God bless both of you and your family. Brenda? how's your knee doing?
Jim, I just love watching you work with your horses. it really is like poetry in motion. You have such a great relationship with the horses and they become so well trained, even Earl, who is still in horse childhood. There’s not a lot of drama, you are so quiet with them, they look so comfortable and relaxed. It’s really pretty amazing. I’ve been working with horses for over 50 years, and I would put you up against any trainer anywhere. You get results, AND your horses are happy while they learn. It doesn’t get better than that.
@ponygirl5716- Hello from our farm in Central ⛵ Lakes Region New Hampshire. I agree, Jim has been a wonderful person to show the lost art of farming with horses. Our farm is too hilly to safely log with horses, so we use tractors. It is a joy to watch their Christmas ❄❄ sleigh rides! I was thinking, as I watched this video, how fortunate his horses are to be living out their lives under Jim and Brenda's care. As horse women, you and I know that a horse is as smart as a 3 yr old human and they have feelings and memories. I have always found them to have so much heart. ~ Diane
It was a nice relaxing video for me today. The boys working like a well oiled machine, without all the engine noise. You guys got a lot done today, it seems with very little stress. Thanks for taking us along.
PG here, Great video; it is filled with quite a variety of farm chores. I am so glad to see Brenda using her leg again. I love the hat; it matches her coat. We did three videos today ourselves. I just now (10:30pm) had a chance to watch your video whilst eating a very late meal. Oh, Brenda we copied your recipe for making squash. We turned it into a stew. It was great. ***Brenda's Chores for the Day & Garden Update! // Farming with Draft Horses **#695*****
Loved this peaceful video. Great to see theboys work so well. The Suffolk Punch horses are worth saving and work so well. Those of English farmers knew them well
yep.. I think our English breed society might need some help from the USA Suffolks soon. I think they may have been a bit snobby, and they'll need new bloodlines
Full day's work for Baron and Earl. Easy work, lots of waiting about. Jim, that is what we call a cattle crush, unless we are getting so correct we are not to crush cattle. Very nice video, the longer the better for me. Thank you both for this channel, for sharing your horses and your daily lives. Greetings from Australia.
Nice job on the head chute, I would suggest putting some slats cross ways on the floor 8-10 inches apart , that wood floor will be extremely slippery when it gets wet.
Love seeing Baron and Earl working together but would like to see Duke working with his brothers also . A beautiful nice long video thank you for sharing with us all.
Jim,a family with a very small farm with cows needed a headlock nonetheless. The wife found one on Craigslist . Constructed wood frame and set posts in ground. I want to thank Brenda as we have received our 2025 calendar. Very nice. Our 2nd year. Perhaps by this weekend you will have a dusting of snow. Happy Thanksgiving to all !! We have also been keen fans of Abby 2 year project that is coming to an end. Perhaps she can expand into an outdoor spring and summer project. Big thanks to Jay.😊
Both Earl and Baron have a bounce to their step, and I love the in sync "clip clop"! Those boys are SO sweet, and I love that Brenda said how easy they are to drive on camera! They back things in the barn well, but definitely aren't the pros Lady and Bill are...all in time with practice. 🙂 Hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
The boys sure were feeling good, wanting to go for a canter down the road. Thank you for another enjoyable video. I look forward to watching your videos on Saturday morning. The front lawn area looks great now that it’s all smoothed out, but my gosh, that sure was a lot of work.
Good thinking about the head gate chute. Get the cattle use to going back and forth, then when you need to catch , just business as usual. In my experience, anything different than the normal and cattle realize that something is up.
Happy Thanksgiving from our New Hampshire farm and Happy Birthday Jim! So much to be grateful for with the weather we had this year. Just when I thought we were on the home stretch, along came 🔥🔥 forest fires! Our main farm is like yours, except it sits on top of a ridge, surrounded by open hay fields. However we built in the woods at the base of the farm in deep woods. My beloved hemlocks and oaks are 20' from two sides of our house. So I was one to welcome this rain. Brenda, you are an amazing farm wife! I am older and wish I could pitch in to help the way you do. Both you and Jim work hard and have raised wonderful children. I'm glad to see that Abby's house is just down the road. I hope she can move in for Christmas. My Jim and I hope to find a time when we can visit with you both in 2025. Our farm raises polled Hereford for breeding stock, but I have always been a horse person and admire the art of farming with horses. My 1/2 Percheron , Razzi, was my best buddy and riding partner. All the best ~ Diane
How is Brenda’s leg doing? Was curious about Pansy. Good to see her. The boys sure look good and glad to hear they are a good team. I agree with the comments about listening to the horse’s footsteps. Enjoy the videos a lot and I follow Abby. She has done a great job with the house. Randy Grubbs
love those clop clop feet on the road..young horse look so healthy.nice. it's al ways enjoyable to watch chores, jobs, and field work. everything looks great for winter soon.glad you both are keeping well..great supply of handy farm toys
Jim and Brenda, A wonderful video of the multiple jobs happening on the farm in winter preparation . Brenda your driving confidence has really improved. Baron and Earl are a fine pair of horses. The harrowing , stone picking and disking has done wonders to the lawn.
I enjoyed the video that was taken while the camera was attached to your head (?). The results was nice closeups showing what you were doing with your hands.
It was good to see Pansy! From what I could see she looks nice and fat! Since we didn't hear a word about her for so long I thought she might be in someone's freezer!! 😅 Skippy is living the best life any dog could. It's a pleasure to see. I hope you take us along on Pansy's pregnancy test. Wonderful video. Thanks.❤
The boys sure were feeling good, wanting to go for a canter down the road. Thank you for another enjoyable video. I look forward to watching your videos on Saturday morning.
Both of my house gutters dumped out on the Southside of my house so I used pipping like that with down spout connectors to take the water away. At least I can mow my lawn before July
I have a couple of questions. How long do the round bales of hay keep? Plastic wrapped vs. Standard wrapped. And what do you do with the bales that go sour? Keep up the good work. Peace ✌️
I'm not Jim! But I can tell you they're both two different ways! The bales that are wrapped in plastic, are bailed when the matter that is used is green! The other bales are completely dried before they're bailed! The dried bales I have seen them last 2 years! And the middle is still be perfectly good! But I think it's according in what type of bales they are! They shed water really well! He had hay grazer and peanut bales! One year we bale 500 hay grazer bales. Rip Bro. Hope this helps you!
Wrapped bales are silage, sealed, disgusting but cattle love it. Dry hay all gets fed out, rougher stuff also goes to cattle. Horses get the best of Jim's hay.
I never really looked that closely at your barn. That is a big barn. How many cows could be milked? I assume it was a tie stall set up. when was the barn built?
Round bales. You can also make small (horse) bales, and huge square bales. The small bales are often called "horse bales", because hay can be measured out in "flakes", which some people feed in nets.
I have never called or heard them called anything but round bales. If they're square we call them square bales and usually further distinguish them as two or three string square bales. I know that in some parts of the country they make huge square bales but I've never seen them around my part of Florida or when I was in Texas. We further distinguish hay as horse hay or cow hay. Remember a lot of the terms used in this stuff is very local and not universal across the whole country. In some parts of the country if you call a Horse a Horse it means to the local it's a gelded male.
@@stuglenn1112 All of you people must be the new generation of what's to change the words in terminology And also you probably call picking corn a combine when everyone knows it's a picker sheller I know I'm right talking to some uneducated people about wording the terminology
One of the nicest sounds, eight hooves clip-clopping rhythmically on the road -music to my ears.

Loved Amish Andy's hitch . Single neck yoke and no fore cart . Plus a well fed and broke team like most Amish farm horses .😊😊😊

Jim what is your favorite harness brand? I was also wondering which material works best for you?
Custom built by Amish. Jim calls it a D ring harness.
👍🏽👍🏽
How many bales should I try to haul with a team of haflinger's?
How is Brenda's leg?
Why not throw the stones into the skidder bucket instead?
Question
Why is the manure spreader kept indoors?
Is all metal, working parts rust.
These bales lay outside for a longer period ? You can still Feed them ?
For cattle, yes.
These bales are wrapped with netwrap which sheds water very well. Many horses are successfully fed this way.
just casually gets blasted by horse farts.. bleh
