- Restoration car video simply isn't possible after very rusty RX7 has been underwater for 36 years. | Restore tear down of 1982 sports car... 🚘😅
🏆Episode Sponsored By... bit.ly/BruteMag...
Since quarantine is keeping us in isolation, we had the RX7 delivered to our home for a series of isolation projects.
Today's Project...
Saw VS Car = Best Demolition
Oddly satisfying and insane car demolition teardown video showing the effects of a car found underwater 36 years later, proving that a car restoration video on this muddy RX-7 sports car simply isn't possible.
We've run the plates and the VIN, but state records of this car have returned zero results.
As such, we have no idea if the car was stolen, auto insurance fraud, or possibly something worse, but leaning towards stolen since the car had so few miles on the odometer.
This video is part of a 5 part series where we'll also be doing a complete teardown of the motor and transmission, piece by piece, building a backyard foundry, and casting souvenir collector coins from the RX7.
Crazy... RIGHT?

Nice father daughter project , nothing can be messed up any worse lmao ✌🤭
You're very right for what you're doing. I'm a mechanic for BMW, and to restore that car is totally not reasonable. Also, you're not going to find a date on those tires when they were made, dot numbers weren't added to tires until the late 90's. That's also proof that it went into the river before the late 90's.
It's engine rotary?
Irineu você não sabe nem eu yes
Adventures with Purpose restore it
That honestly breaks my heart, poor car barely even saw the light of day. So so sad
People who steal suck. What a shame. Why steal a car just to dump in river.
Why? OH GOT THIS IS ABSOLUTE SACRALIGE!
as a person who dedicates their life to cars this is upsetting.
No I know it isn’t fixable at all, it just hurts.
Though some parts are actually really good condition on it.
I’d love a car even if it didn’t run and was absolutely destroyed.
It was under water for years not much you could use
That car has been in water for as long as I've been alive just about. I turned 37 last month lol
Sweet.. Happy Birthday
@@AdventuresWithPurpose thank you 🥰
Sam is an absolute saint and mastermind to have edited all these hours of footage. That many hours times however many different cameras there are! So much work went into this series, great job guys! (and gals!)
You seem to be really enjoying yourself tearing this car apart, and its also apparent your daughter is having a great time being able to share the moment with you.
It's a bonding time of father and daughter, one they'll recall in years to come!
Looks like you finished that car. Lots of laughs
I got my first car in April 1984. A 1977 mini. Dad bought it secondhand for me. Was a fabulous little car for a student.
In 1985, I was at my parents place and the car was parked at the bottom of the driveway. It was pouring rain and the shihtzu kept going to the window and growling. Mum looked a couple of times and saw nothing and said to the dog, it was nothing and just the rain.
The next day a friend came over and we planned to drive into Sydney but the mini wouldn’t start. We ended up driving her car.
Dad said he’d look at the car whilst we were away and it must be something with the battery as he’d just put a new one in the week before.
Dad looked at the battery (in the boot) and couldn’t find a problem so he called road service, who came out and looked and said the battery was fine. Then lifted the bonnet and the engine had been stripped out.
I was devastated. I was a student nurse working shift work including night shifts and needed the car to get about and to work.
Dad was irate. He spent days roaming the neighbourhood looking in people’s yards for someone working on a mini. Never found anything.
I bet you were irate.I grew up with mini's as they were my dad;s favourite cars,
Free Rx7 low miles ran when parked in the river in 1984
😂
@12:27 its not a Mazda RX7 truck Addition... its a its a Mazda RX7 EL Camino its a RX-MINO⁷
I would love to see a video covering all the environmentally hazardous stuff that is in a car and potentially getting into the waterways. Obviously the battery, oil, etc. But this could be an interesting learning session and why your work is so important!
AMAZING! Thanks for sharing
Less than 4000 miles... Dam shame.
Can't believe how relatively easily the lug nuts & wheels came off.
Thank you. It has been interesting content during the lock out.
Thanks for your support!
That air cleaner housing is the best part of the car. And one of the very few things still good enough for someone to use.
Thats amazing how the tires held air.
I’m 62 and always watched the goonies with my kids (my nephews before they were born), they bought themselves and me that shirt. I do wear it.
Nice to see the great relationships with your kids.
Nice channel and the purpose you serve.
Thanks for your support😁👍
If your saving the copper wire and aluminium you might want to take the starter and alternator and all of the electric motors off for the copper that you can get and if you save as many batteries and lead wheel weights you can make boat anchors
Basically what you’ve been doing is what I did to prepare a car for a demolition derby. Fun video.
Did any of the RUclips Car Detailers accept your challenge? That definitely would be interesting to watch.
I am always happy when you post a new video😃
Yay! Thank you!
Cool video!! The car really didn't look that bad when it came out of the river. Then you rolled it over and it can be clearly seen how badly it's rotted out. Next time before you start destroying the car, take the side marker light lenses off. They could actually be quite valuable and easily removed. The live auction should be interesting!!
Hi David Mack it's Kiki the camera girl. Just wanted to say thank you so much for supporting our channel. Hope to see you during the Live Auction on Sunday.😁👍

@@AdventuresWithPurpose Hi Kiki!! I *LOVE* your channel!! I am VERY happy to support it and even be a part of it here and there! I should be home from work in time to catch it and am looking forward to it! Should be *fun*!!
I'm honestly curious to what happened to that mustang you gotten out of the river a few videos back. That mustang needs to be brought back to life again.
Sitting in another yard right now.
You should of restored that car jarrad.no I'm only joking.was watching a old patty mayo video this morning and u was his camera man so I mentioned u in the comments.big thumbs up for what u do and what your doing with that car.much love a d respect to you your family and all your crew for all you do to keep us entertained and watching your videos.I think there the best on you tube.
Thanks for your support!
Mazda RX-7 el-camino
All these people who are salty that you tore it apart, hey! Go pull your own car out of the drink and you can do whatever you want. Problem:solved. I loved this series.
Fantastic work. you have worked very hard breaking the RX7 down. You could do very well working in a breakers yard.
Thank you!
Great videos keep up the fantastic recoveries your doing . Good job on cutting the car. God Bless you and your group .
Thank you for your support!
I’m amazed at how you didn’t smash the glass absolutely fantastic video well worth watching for amusement lol
Love the tshirt
Check that radiator because if I am not mistaken that will still be copper back then.
Boa noite
Ótimo vídeo brothers

When she was underwater in the Real world they have been 5 president,12 iphone, the end of the cold war,the war on terror and Irak.
There should be platinum in that barely used catalytic converter.
Love the dog buddy plus watching from paisley near Glasgow Scotland 🏴 keep up the great work guys
To be fair this car was a museum piece
Great license plate.
Very rare car
Man it’s amazing how easy those wheels looked to get off. My old Dodge is usually terrible to get them off!
AWESOME !!!!!! You're having so much fun. I was way off on the mileage, I guessed 13k+ Thank you for sharing it 🌞🌞🌞
Thanks for your support!
nice✌🏻😁 hello I’m from malaysia
Love your channel look forward to seeing your videos
Thanks for your support!
I hope you do more like this top video
I like you're diving and recovery videos. But these I can do without
You could have stamped out some sort of souveneirs from the car's relatively flat panels. As for the engine- it normal to remove the engine from the frame, not the frame from the engine. It worked well!
Once again, I am baffled as to why I enjoyed watching an American dad, cutting up a random car found in a river for no other reason than he can
😂🤣
Was hoping this could be restored.
I love the Father/Daughter vibe you have going on with your girls. All of your videos are entertaining but the best ones are the videos with either one of the girls in them. The dad jokes work much better when you have an offspring around to groan at you.
Keep up the great work and keep having fun.
You all had way to much fun taking that apart lol 😆
"Trust me I know what I'm doing" -- Famous Last Words
Hewo again and dang I can't believe it has been under water for that long I would have thought maybe it was under water for less time
Without the rear glass, it lends itself to being a targa with a removable sunroof and fold-up convertible for the rear, leaving the center bar in place. Wonder if Mazda ever considered it?
I am about 7 months late. But did you check the hood if it is aluminium? (My Miata hood is)
I very much enjoyed the cleaning videos and I also like patina. And if I happen to build a rat car again (crappy from the outside - technically solid) I want this kind of patina. I already did rust, real and artificial rust coatings. But a patina that happens to withstand power washing, soap and a electric powered brush. Amazing.
Edit:
Why the fuck did he cut the axle shaft? It was completely in oil and preserved. One of the few useable things!!!
До этой серии думал что эта машина будет восстановлена🙂
It now considered modern art
The "shhhh don't tell mom" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shhh 🤫... there’s a lot we don’t tell her.
quater light back windows maybe quite valuable, should try clening them up and selling them, try ebay or somewhere
We'll be doing a Live Auction on Sunday. Make sure to check it out😁👍
ruclips.net/video/iLVSshl_zVI/видео.html
I guess river was better place for that car atleast it was resting in peace... This guy is destroying it completely heart breaks
another fantastic video, it hurts to see, but there was no saving this car, the time and effort would never justify the end result
Thanks for the support! Some people still think we could restore it after it being underwater for over 30 years😂
@@AdventuresWithPurpose oh it's 100% possible but the ends don't justify the means. There's nothing special about a first gen rx7. If it had been a 1 of 2 concept or it had been some famous racecar. Restoring it might have some value. But this is just a run of the mill rx7. Outside of having no miles it on.
Funny, about the same time you were saying it couldn't have been insurance fraud I was thinking that's probably exactly what it was. I was guessing someone couldn't pass up the nice new shiny sports car until they had to pay the first month or two of the loan and realized they couldn't afford the loan and insurance. I see a lot of people take loans thinking they can make the payments but they never factor in insurance and other costs that come along with it.
Payments back in ‘82 would have only been like $65 monthly.
I own one of these cars, bought it over 20 years ago. Anything metal in your wreck sure is going to be trash but a lot of the plastics would probably be OK. Do you do international shipping to Australia? Did the centre console fascia survive the disassembly? It is the piece that had the stereo in it
That part did not survive. Pay shipping and we’ll ship anywhere.
20,000 miles
Those side marker lights on front and rare save them as well.
You are Awsome you show come search the river in bullhead city Arizona I’d like to meet you thanks for actually checking the miles
Would be good to see the wheels acid dipped to see what they come out like
She was born in 1986
Jared I saw you with Patty Mayo you are pretty good with the camera
restore it and use it , thats is a treasure man
I am not sure, but I think back in the 80's they did not have the date on the tyres yet. Would be interesting to take the remaining 2 and fit them to a car and do some burnouts to see if they can still take it.
That car was definitely too far gone. There is a story you should check out though of a man who rescued a Shelby Cobra from a river and restored it. Really neat story. Of course it didn’t spend 30 years underwater like the RX7.
Yes definitely too far gone most Asian cars can’t take any kind of collision and do very good but when you got the entire body as rusty as that there’s no structural integrity to speak of
Was this car stolen? It would be neat to know the whole story of this car. Someone may stumble across this video and think “Hey could that be my old RX7?”
Unfortunately we don't know the backstory on this one. Usually the cars we find are either stolen or insurance fraud
Adventures with Purpose
Do you ask the local or any law enforcement if they want to check the vin# through NCIC?
That could clear a lot of stolen vehicle cases.
Sorry, retired LE we always think about those things.
Excellent bonding time with your daughters. They’ll always remember how much fun it was. Stories for grandkids to hear.
I can’t believe the lugs came off! I have more trouble getting mine off and it sits in the garage
You got a beautiful car
I will be bidding on most of the parts. Also, I forgot to mention, try and save that plastic side trim and marker lights. They will pop off with flat head screw driver and side marker lights and side signal lights/reflectors will come off with Phillips head screw driver. :)
Awesome RUclips channel.
Thank you!
It felt so amazing when I watched you pull it out of the water, now I'd rather watch it sit in a junk yard than being in your hands. "Any car guys would know it's not worth restoring" well yeah if you don't know the value of that car.
The date code on tires made after 2000 are a 4 digit code. Any tire made before 2000 only have 3 digits. 1st 2 are the week, last 1 is the year. Good luck!
First 2 numbers is the week of the year, second 2 is the year.
Jared, I would love to have the radio and the clock. Please let me know what I need to do to get them. Thank you very much, and please keep up the great video 👍💯
100% if you win it in this weeks auction.
Check out the Live Auction on Sunday.

ILL TRY THIS AGAIN, PLEASE PUT POWER TO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Almost a contemporary Rat Rod, fricken' awesome.........
to juz lepiej jak w wodzie leżało niż jest cięte w kawałki i nie będzie śladu
I can't believe how low the mileage was! Less then 4k what a shame.
Oh and YOU COULD'VE RESTORED THAT RX7! All you needed was another RX7 to replace that broken RX7!
😂
What do you’ll do with all those cars taken out of the water Jared do they go to the yunk yard or what ??
Why couldn't you restored the car! WHY?!
I agree.. they make enough cash off posting videos. Some one would have sponsored them
The car is literally fucked. Rotted and damaged all over.
Just be happy parts are being salvaged
The integrity of literally every part of that vehicle has been deteriorated beyond restorable . Maybe minus a part or two.
Put all the pieces on a trailer and take it to a body shop and record the reaction whenever you say you want it fully restored
LOL... That's a good idea.
The low miles could also mean the owner didn't understand how to use a rotary and caused severe engine damage. So to insure a payout they dumped it in the river.
There must be some usable parts on that
The reusable parts would be few. Any of the glass windows could be salvaged, but not much else.
@joseph baska the last few American cars he pulled from the water fell apart just from the weight of the Mudd in them and all the rot lol. This old Mazda was still rock solid for the most part 🤷🏻♂️
@@RobertNES816 certainly held up much better than the mach 1 mustang did thats for sure
The air cleaner cover was perfect until he ruined it by cutting thru the hood into it. This man is a bull in a china shop! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
joseph baska we saw how good that American made 73 Mustang was when that was pulled. (And I own one) Mazda was in good shape considering
Haven't finished watching yet. Big fan of your channel, but I would like to say. To raise more money for your channel there are a few things on these cars that are worth something . Like on this rx-7 wheels for instance they are getting harder and harder to find. Those curved trianglure glasshard to find. Emblems that are in good shape, the air cleaner cover you had in your hand lots of little things like that. But I agree with you the car isn't worth restoring a a hole.
😱
I hear that the only remaining Blockbuster Video store is in Bend,Oregon, but who needs that when they will be entertained, and possibly educated, by hanging out and watching you. I bet your neighborhood is entertained by you, I wish I lived there.....
eu quero a placa pra incluir em minha coleçao
The rotary moters are very build able and quick so I would keep the moter and strip it and clean it and refresh it to sell it
Nothing wrong with that car! It'll buff out.
LOL Sure, a little bondo and wax, good as new
Sad. Nice car. Well at one point.
How much aluminium are you going to get from a steel car? You got the wheels and some smaller parts and then the engine and gearbox combo and maby some drivetrain parts. Don't get me wrong but it's a lot of work, but i like your project verry much and i hope to see a coin in the end. Greetings from Bill and my son Sam from Holland
When it comes to Freshwater, cars that are submerged can actually retain structural integrity if they are in low-oxygen environments (covered and sunk in mud, or in stagnant or slow moving waters) This is due to the galvanization of the chassis and the fact that rusting only occurs in the presence of oxygen. iron oxide = rust. You should take care in what you pull out in the future, as you may actually have some very valuable parts!
Poor rx7😔😔
Those are the original Bridgestone radial tires.
67,000
Be careful not to throw sparks on the camera lens it WILL mess them up. Might want to check them because the molten metal will stick to the glass. FYI
The sparks did scratch up the lens a bit, but surprisingly the video quality is still clear. I guess I got lucky this time😅
Did the car sink with air in the tires? Well then.
Seriously?
