In this episode of Adventures with Purpose, Sam and I make the trip north close to the Canadian border to recover a sunken BMW car in Lake Whatcom.
At the end of the day, the moral of the story is... DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE!
This has been by far one of our easiest and more fun car recoveries from underwater.
Probably because the water was so clear.
Unfortunately for the driver of the car, he had no auto insurance.
But thankfully, he escaped with his lift.

I am a diehard fishermen and hunter and it makes me so happy to see all the people that help clean up the lake and streams. You, DALLMYD, Yappy and Jiggin are some of the best I know.
I'm a long haul trucker. When you drive by a crash scene and body bags are covered or a vehicle is covered,you know a fatality occurred. I get so sick of seeing it more and more often today,and knowing why.When will we again care about and respect our fellow mankind??Stop being so selfish and self absorbed!!!

I think people are getting lazy. When you had a car you actually had to drive, you paid more attention. Now they have sensors that people rely on to do the thinking for them and they actually have cars that can almost drive themselves. I think things need to go backwards to get people to drive their car.

We all need to let our members in Congress know that allowing manufactures to put cars on the roads with us that can reach 200 MPH, is a hazard to all Americans. We need to require manufactures to update their vehicle's software to lower its maximum speed to something below triple digits. I know it's bad for the funeral home, ambulance and hospital businesses but our safety must come first. Vehicle manufacturers can't do it without a law requiring it because it would put them at a competitive disadvantage.
@@mexicanspec I am so glad I drive my 30 year old Opel (Vauxhall) ! It has no technical driving assistants, not even electric windows or something like that. And it just passed the state inspection 👍🏻

This lake is the city's water source so its kept pretty clean and there are some heavy environmental laws for the properties surounding it. It's also a very large lake, 10 miles long and 8 miles wide and about 30 miles to drive around it.
I'm extremely disappointed in how bad texting and driving is nowadays, I'm a firefighter and see deaths every day with the cause being texting, unfortunately my best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way home from a vacation in 2017, I just wanna take a moment to say that I'm sorry for anyone who has lost a loved one due to a DUI accident, or a distracted driving accident, or any kind of way to be completely honest, may their souls rest in piece🙏

That was cool. Usually visibility is really bad and we can't see the car lift off the bottom but that was awesome to watch.
This lake is pretty big,also the city's water source and one of my favorite lakes to swim in

Wow it just amazes me how much is in these lakes, and rivers etc. And the amount of vehicles in the water. An accidental landing in any water where you could die scares me to no end. So good for you guys for the job you do. Stay safe. Thanks for sharing
After watching this episode, I noticed your concern for damaging the wheels with your chains for the bags. I watch a gentleman out of the mid-west that is a tow truck service. He does alot of crash recoveries. He has the same concern. I see that he uses high quality straps for connecting to wheels. Although I have nothing to offer you in support other than enjoying your videos, you might want to check out Ron Pratt on RUclips, if for nothing else some technical ideas to help your recovery of vehicles. Again, I do enjoy you, your fellow divers and your videos and commend you on your dedication to clean up the environment!!
Any vehicle that gets flooded or goes underwater is automatically totaled. Scratching the paint or bending something won't detract from the car's value one bit. Once the insurance company pays the claim, the car no longer belongs to the owner.

👍 nice job! It’s definitely great that you pulled it out before it started to spill some oil, gasoline and other toxic liquids into this lake.
My husband and I were fishing at our local lake here in southern Oregon( Klamath Falls) we heard screeching tires and a splash... my husband started running toward it, we couldn't see it from where we were, I being the cooler headed of the two jumped in our car and picked him up on the way... lol. Two teenagers headed home from spring break dumped the rig in the water screwing around in the car doing who knows what. The only window down was the drivers and she told us that the passenger climbed over her and got out before she did... we wrapped them up passerby call 911 and gave us a blanket ... Kids, summer is coming up, please be safe and don't make Jared's team work any harder than the already do...God Bless. This was by far my favorite video so far.

Probably because it was the soonest after sinking they've done. Most up to now have been months or years underwater, this was only about a month.
Well I guess the upside is that this fine piece of BMW engineering wont cost its owner an arm and a leg as it ages.

My M5 was the greatest car I ever drove the one day it wasn't broken...

My dad was a scuba diver and president of the Indiana Scuba Sharks back in the early to middle 70's. Our hometown police would call when they needed dive work done. Once they pulled a car out of a lake, the owner gave it to my dad. He got it running and dried out and sold it. So not every submerged car is a loss.

I live about 10 min from this beautiful lake! Grew up swimming and waterskiing here as well. Wish I had known you were here!
Well, i once had it that i was looking at the fuel display to check if i need to stop at the gas station before going home for just ONE second and BANG rear ended someone. So being distracted is a VERY serious point. Luckily it wasnt THAT bad, only a low damage on both cars but still not nice.

same scenario right before a car crosses the yellow line and has a head on crash with an innocent driver. We don't seem to want to admit that these crashes are "text crashes" because there are so many of them. All are fatal.
He thinks it was a split second. My daughter told me to put my phone on Do Not Disturb while I’m driving.
A split secend means he most likely also ran the stop sign just before he drove right into the lake.
Probably felt like a second, but if that was all it took people would be going into lakes every time they looked in the rear view mirror.
Sneezing is dangerous as well! I almost ended up crashing into another car because I was sneezing at 100 km/h. It’s like driving blindfolded for 100 meters.
