EVERY initial transformation we see in the series, was the result of the saiyan in question being enraged. 1. Goku became a super saiyan when he was enraged at Frieza as a result of krillin's murder in front of him. 2. Vegeta first transformed when he was filled with rage at his own incompetence and weakness. (He literally tells the story of how he got so angry he just snapped and stopped caring about anything. Basically he got so angry he said "F*** LITERALLY EVERYTHING and then he transformed.) 3. Gohan first transformed thinking about how angry he would be if Cell attacked his family and friends. SS2 was then gained when he allowed himself to feel the anger that resulted from Cell ACTUALLY attacking his family and friends. 4. Even Goten's first transformation was him throwing a tantrum at his mom, angry that she hit him while they were sparring. Super Saiyan (the initial form at least) is, and can only be, achieved through sufficient anger, sufficient being the key word. It doesn't just happen automatically when they get angry, but they do have to be angry for it to occur. Whether they "need" the power or not is irrelevant.

Yes, it may not be the greatest in isolation, but when you watch through DBZ up to that point you really feel that shit, never again does a transformation have that kind of impact. While some were almost cool enough to be on par, Gohan remains at the top.

There are a couple. I would argue the final Battle between Leon and Ash is one of the greatest moments, especially for early 2000 kids, as they grew up both with the new and the classics. There is also Avatar the Last Airbender.

You can be the most powerful being in the multiverse, able to destroy planets and galaxies alike. But it's all wasted if you can't land a single hit. It's not about how much power you have, strategy overshadows power to a large degree. Gohan mastered both. He was able to be angry and collect all his power, and at the same time he was so level headed he had entire movements and strategies to defeat Cell going through his head. Gohan truly is terrifying. To be so angry yet so calm at the same time.
When a kid goes to war he is clueless and scared, praying for his parents and friends help.. The kid is helpless and backed into a corner not knowing what to do... That’s a real test. What test? The answer is if you finally became a man. As the kid got the fire burning his soul he transformed. The child is a kid no longer.. The man has come to avenge the only thing that he truly cares about in his life.. his very loved ones and that wait for him and pray for him. As the man goes to the battle everyone is shocked. All the demons have fled and the devil himself kneels and begs for mercy.. the friends are afraid and god knows that he is ready. Because only the most gentle people can feel this emotion and inflict this much horror at the same time. It is truly terrifying when a gentle man that cares and never does harm to people has a power that is so strong that made him drop his qualities and do what he was meant to do.. No one can stand against a man that has such a burning soul and anger in his eyes. No one said a thing as they were wise.. But in their minds they were completely confused and scared.. the kid is gone and the man is born.. and that’s the only time that you can hear these words reversed. In the end of the day the man did what he was meant to do. Protect his family! That man is Gohan, and even the worst forces in the world wouldn’t even dare to speak next to him. That’s a true warrior and a true man. Not a bad person who think that he is a man. But a man that is gentle,respectful and quite can become one.
Thank you Toriyama for Dragonall, and Gohan. A character I grew up alongside with and could look to for bursts of confidence when I had none. Your legacy will last forever.
Gohan has always been my favorite character. I was 6 when I first watched dbz so when i saw Gohan someone around my age he gave me motivation. To try harder, to surpass my mother, to make others proud, and to become that i'm proud to be. I'm a teenager now but when I heard this I was about to cry cause you really touched my heart with this.

Gohan was a Badass. He had super potential, and he was able to defeat cell with only one year of training in the time chamber, and his potential unlocked. His anger alone was able to give him enough power to completely outclass Perfect Cell, and even the Main Character Goku. Gohan was originally going to be the next generation Main Character, but sadly the creator decided to keep Goku for a while longer. Imagine if Gohan trained like Goku, and Vegeta did. Gohan was able to beat the heck out of Freeza form 2 with pure anger alone, and it goes to show that Gohan may actually be Goku's trump card when it comes to battles that he can't win. Since he knows that Gohan can go even farther and faster than he can, and that Gohan's limits are way above his. If Goku can make Beerus sweat with Blue and kaioken x20, clearly Gohan would completely shock beerus if he had taken the same path. Sadly, we can only hope that Gohan will take up the torch later on, or even get some spotlight. He is the most wasted character in the series, and it would have been really epic to see him take up the torch of the next generation. Since the next generation should always surpass the last, and Gohan clearly had that going for him too. Just that he never trained that endless potential he had.

Gohan's screams when he transforms into SSJ2 are just so amazing. With this soundtrack in the background, it's just incredible and one of my fondest memories watching Dragon Ball Z as a kid.
Through hard work and dedication, the question is no longer "will you succeed?" but rather "when will you succeed?" Loved to see DBZ Gohan growing up. Great way to celebrate a child prodigy fighter.
When DBZ was on toonami, I missed the episodes of Goku going Super Saiyan but it didn't matter. See back then DBZ was taking off and I felt so upset that I had missed it. Unbeknownst to me at the time the true soul of DBZ had yet to show its self and when it manifested in the culmination of Gohan ascending. I was vindicated and had been freed, just as Gohan had freeded his power.

I never really read or watched Dragon Ball, I rather watched countless clips on youtube. Dragon Ball is somewhat impressive, and I deeply respect Akira Toriyama. When he passed away, I really felt sad. But the epic stories he wrote will still be here for a long time, and he is a legend.

I don't know if I can do that, Gohan had replied. I'm not him. I've been scared. When Raditz hurt my dad, I was scared. When Frieza's men hurt those people, I was scared. When I took on Frieza, I was scared. "And when you came here?" Gohan left that unfinished, becoming quiet. Trunks was also quiet, for a time, one hand clutching the grip of the sword impaled into the ground. "Almost everyone died before you had a chance to take on the Androids. Bulma took it and carried it next, and she passed it on to Trunks. And when he came to this timeline, that promise fell into the hands of Goku's son. I let you die. The air around Gohan pulsed with energy as the desert sand started to pick up and swirl. I just watched. "Oh...?" Cell narrowed his eyes. "What is this?" Gohan's golden aura was pulsing, shrunk close to his body before it rippled out and came back, a rhythym with building intensity that sent cracks rippling through the ground. I just watched and...I can't do that. Gohan clasped his fists tightly, as his aura expanded, as streaks of static and lightning jutted across his body. I won't watch anymore. A thundering crack tore through the air as a bolt of lightning lanced out from Gohan's aura and struck the ground at Cell's feet. "That's the way," the biological Android said with a grin, "Let it all go." I...I can feel it slipping. Tears trickled down his cheeks, as the cloud of sand and lightning became a whirling storm around Gohan's body. The boy crossed his arms, lifted them up, and threw his head back, eyes shut tight, mouth wide open. And I won't watch this anymore! The air around Gohan was completely consumed by his aura, an expanding sphere of overwhelming energy. I WONT WATCH THIS ANYMORE! Gohan screamed, and screamed, and screamed, as the tears upon his face glimmered in the lightning-light, as his aura surged outwards and struck Cell, driving him a few steps back. He screamed, and from the bottomless well of his potential, Gohan's body became fully laced in lightning, as his aurawind became an unceasing force... "What has happened...to you?" Cell's confidence became a stammer, and his eyes were wide, shocked. ...an unceasing roar, as Gohan transformed, stepped past the level of Super Saiyan, and became something stronger than any person before him ever had.
This one song literal destroys all the haters that love to hate on the Bruce falconer soundtrack. Not to mention vegeta and gokus themes for super sayain and super sayain 3 oh and literally the entirety of the English soundtrack for fusion reborn.

It's amazing to see how many people resonate with Gohan and still remember his iconic quotes. As a child, it hit so hard, but it hits even more as an adult. What a childhood we had... Nowadays cartoons simply.. do not... compare...

I would argue the final Battle between Leon and Ash is one of the greatest moments, especially for early 2000 kids, as they grew up both with the new and the classics.

You can be the most powerful being in the multiverse, able to destroy planets and galaxies alike. But it's all wasted if you can't land a single hit. It's not about how much power you have, strategy overshadows power to a large degree. Gohan mastered both. He was able to be angry and collect all his power, and at the same time he was so level headed he had entire movements and strategies to defeat Cell going through his head. Gohan truly is terrifying. To be so angry yet so calm at the same time.
When a kid goes to war he is clueless and scared, praying for his parents and friends help.. The kid is helpless and backed into a corner not knowing what to do... That’s a real test. What test? The answer is if you finally became a man. As the kid got the fire burning his soul he transformed. The child is a kid no longer.. The man has come to avenge the only thing that he truly cares about in his life.. his very loved ones and that wait for him and pray for him. As the man goes to the battle everyone is shocked. All the demons have fled and the devil himself kneels and begs for mercy.. the friends are afraid and god knows that he is ready. Because only the most gentle people can feel this emotion and inflict this much horror at the same time. It is truly terrifying when a gentle man that cares and never does harm to people has a power that is so strong that made him drop his qualities and do what he was meant to do.. No one can stand against a man that has such a burning soul and anger in his eyes. No one said a thing as they were wise.. But in their minds they were completely confused and scared.. the kid is gone and the man is born.. and that’s the only time that you can hear these words reversed. In the end of the day the man did what he was meant to do. Protect his family! That man is Gohan, and even the worst forces in the world wouldn’t even dare to speak next to him. That’s a true warrior and a true man. Not a bad person who think that he is a man. But a man that is gentle,respectful and quite can become one.
Granted its long, BUT IT STILLS DESERVES MORE LIKES

Thank you Toriyama for Dragonall, and Gohan. A character I grew up alongside with and could look to for bursts of confidence when I had none. Your legacy will last forever.
Gohan has always been my favorite character. I was 6 when I first watched dbz so when i saw Gohan someone around my age he gave me motivation. To try harder, to surpass my mother, to make others proud, and to become that i'm proud to be. I'm a teenager now but when I heard this I was about to cry cause you really touched my heart with this.

Gohan was a Badass.
He had super potential, and he was able to defeat cell with only one year of training in the time chamber, and his potential unlocked.
His anger alone was able to give him enough power to completely outclass Perfect Cell, and even the Main Character Goku.
Gohan was originally going to be the next generation Main Character, but sadly the creator decided to keep Goku for a while longer.
Imagine if Gohan trained like Goku, and Vegeta did. Gohan was able to beat the heck out of Freeza form 2 with pure anger alone, and it goes to show that Gohan may actually be Goku's trump card when it comes to battles that he can't win. Since he knows that Gohan can go even farther and faster than he can, and that Gohan's limits are way above his.
If Goku can make Beerus sweat with Blue and kaioken x20, clearly Gohan would completely shock beerus if he had taken the same path.
Sadly, we can only hope that Gohan will take up the torch later on, or even get some spotlight. He is the most wasted character in the series, and it would have been really epic to see him take up the torch of the next generation. Since the next generation should always surpass the last, and Gohan clearly had that going for him too. Just that he never trained that endless potential he had.

Kids my age when gohan was this age felt this the most.
When DBZ was on toonami, I missed the episodes of Goku going Super Saiyan but it didn't matter. See back then DBZ was taking off and I felt so upset that I had missed it. Unbeknownst to me at the time the true soul of DBZ had yet to show its self and when it manifested in the culmination of Gohan ascending. I was vindicated and had been freed, just as Gohan had freeded his power.
A wise man once told me that those with a calm mind can over see anything mastering the fire that fuels your anger once controlled you have a power that most will never achieve and thats believing in yourself

The child's eyes were wide, every muscle in his body stiff such that he was rooted to the earth.
"Yet another fighter," Cell said as he ground a piece of metal into the sand with his heel, "you could've saved." He shook his head slowly, looking at Gohan with disdain.
Despite the cruelty in those words, it was true. A cold feeling swept through his entire body. Sixteen, he thought to himself. You loved life. And you were just an Android.
I let you die.
Nothing Gohan said, or did, mattered. He could beg, and beg, and beg. But Cell wasn't going to stop.
A desert wind rolled through, and blew sand across Gohan's face. He shut his eyes.
In my timeline, Trunks had said, you were my teacher. And you were incredible. You never stopped fighting. Even when your arm was destroyed. Even when you went one vs two.
I don't know if I can do that, Gohan had replied. I'm not him. I've been scared. When Raditz hurt my dad, I was scared. When Frieza's men hurt those people, I was scared. When I took on Frieza, I was scared.
"And when you came here?" Gohan left that unfinished, becoming quiet.
Trunks was also quiet, for a time, one hand clutching the grip of the sword impaled into the ground.
"Almost everyone died before you had a chance to take on the Androids. Your dad wasn't there to teach you; My dad wasn't there to teach me." Trunks shook his head slowly. "You had to learn on your own, and I learned from you." He continued, "You were strong, and if you were scared, I never saw it. It never showed."
"I can't do that. I'm not like him," Gohan said in a downtrodden whisper, "I'm not strong."
"You always told me as long as we kept fighting, there was hope. As long as we were alive, there was hope." Trunks started to carve the letter H into the dirt with the tip of his sword.
"My mom's strong. She was always smiling, always thinking, always working on something to find an edge against the Androids." Trunks paused and took a deep breath. "She did the surgery, fifteen hours through. You were a mess, and she went through the rest of the blood supply, until she had to use her own."
"She told me before the surgery that you were going to be okay, and then she said the same thing again when she was done. Gohan will be okay."
"Wow, Bulma...?" Gohan's mouth was slightly agape, "Gosh...that's incredible."
"Yeah. She is." Trunks closed his eyes before he continued, "A few months into your recovery, I heard her in her office. She was crying, something I'd never seen her do before."
"I was gonna ask her what was wrong, but then I heard what she was saying. 'I don't know what to do,' she'd said, 'I can't protect them'. She just kept repeating those two things, again and again."
"That was the first time I realized, my mom was scared, and had been the entire time. She just never showed it."
Gohan looked down at the floor, silent.
"Four days later, she started work on the time machine." He took a deep breath. "She marked off each day on a calendar. Circled every milestone, in red. It would ultimately take her many, many months to finish." He gripped the top of his sword tighter, hesitant. "The Androids killed you on day 268."
Gohan stayed quiet.
"On day 270, she wrote the word HOPE!!! on the calendar. And she carved that word into the chassis on day 592, the day it was complete."
Hope. The word, now balanced upon the shoulders of a young boy, was as painful and terrifying as it was a promise. A promise brought here from another timeline, carried first by the Gohan of that world. Bulma took it and carried it next, and she passed it on to Trunks. And when he came to this timeline, that promise fell into the hands of Goku's son.
I let you die.
The air around Gohan pulsed with energy as the desert sand started to pick up and swirl.
I just watched.
"Oh...?" Cell narrowed his eyes. "What is this?"
Gohan's golden aura was pulsing, shrunk close to his body before it rippled out and came back, a rhythym with building intensity that sent cracks rippling through the ground.
I just watched and...I can't do that.
Gohan clasped his fists tightly, as his aura expanded, as streaks of static and lightning jutted across his body.
I won't watch anymore.
A thundering crack tore through the air as a bolt of lightning lanced out from Gohan's aura and struck the ground at Cell's feet. "That's the way," the biological Android said with a grin, "Let it all go."
I...I can feel it slipping.
Tears trickled down his cheeks, as the cloud of sand and lightning became a whirling storm around Gohan's body.
The boy crossed his arms, lifted them up, and threw his head back, eyes shut tight, mouth wide open.
And I won't watch this anymore!
The air around Gohan was completely consumed by his aura, an expanding sphere of overwhelming energy.
I WONT WATCH THIS ANYMORE!
Gohan screamed, and screamed, and screamed, as the tears upon his face glimmered in the lightning-light, as his aura surged outwards and struck Cell, driving him a few steps back. He screamed, and from the bottomless well of his potential, Gohan's body became fully laced in lightning, as his aurawind became an unceasing force...
"What has happened...to you?" Cell's confidence became a stammer, and his eyes were wide, shocked.
...an unceasing roar, as Gohan transformed, stepped past the level of Super Saiyan, and became something stronger than any person before him ever had.
