The Canadian Maritimes (both East and West) are just beautiful, and at least in the far northeast, there are very few boats cruising up there. Before I started my circumnavigation, I spent 3 summers cruising New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador (up to Happy Valley/Goose Bay), and on the way around, I spent one beautiful fall cruising British Columbia. And did I mention, the Canadians are wonderful, welcoming people also, even if you are an American. I've also kayaked the inside passage from Seattle to Skagway twice and I'm going again this summer. The primitive beach camping, the wildlife, and most of all, the tidewater glaciers up the fjords are unsurpassed.
Agreed, we’re very lucky to get to experience these amazing coastlines here in Canada! Awesome that you’ve sailed NL & Labrador! Having been born there, I’d really like to do that one day. Perhaps a sail thru the Northwest Passage is in order?! Haha Amazing kayak adventures, that is no small feat, very inspiring! The scenic places and wildlife you get to experience make it well worth the effort! Maybe we’ll catch you out there this Summer. Cheers to adventure!
Wow - many years ago I was deckhanding on my brother-in-laws fish boat and we stopped at Safety Cove and walked on that very beach. I had a 8mm movie camera so have that to look back on. Back in those days there was nothing there except a trail to the beach. 1970s.
Thank you for sharing such an amazing episode. Beautiful sailing, scenery and great photography. So relaxing to watch. Look forward to seeing your future videos. Best wishes, stay warm. P&J
Ahhh yes, the proverbial “Never-Ending” boat projects… 🤪 I’m looking forward to watching the upgrades and next season’s adventures as you continue exploring further North. Hey Allison, maybe while you’re at the boat show there are some books you could get James on how to catch real fish 🎣😂 ( sorry James, I just couldn’t resist that tease ). Catch you guys soon. Fair winds until then ⛵️🤙🏼
Haha there was a ‘fishing simulator’ so I made him practice haha We look forward to getting back out there and sharing the journey with you again soon, cheers!
@@AllisonandJamesSailing they were full time live-aboards then balancing working and cruising through the year. A few years later after my younger sibling got a bit older they decided to get a house as I'm sure having two kids age 3 & 5 on a 37ft sailboat must have been crazy times
@Eriktaylor85 good on them! That makes sense, I imagine it’s super tough to cruise with kids after a certain age. Do you have memories of those years onboard? We’ll be entering our late thirties and so kids have crossed our minds but we’re not sure we’d be able to continue the lifestyle and aren’t sure if we’re willing to give it up!
@@AllisonandJamesSailing I have many fond memories from my youth cruising. We lived full time on the boat until somewhere around age 4/5 for myself. After my parents bought a house they continued to cruise in the summer months completing many trips around Van Island and Hadia Gwaii. I'm in my late 30s myself and have a young child, we get out on a handful of multi day trips a year on our boat, as she it is getting older is easier but between newborn and 3 was pretty difficult.
@Eriktaylor85 amazing, thanks for sharing that! Glad you have such good memories of those times. Sounds like your parents had a good balance of things going. Can’t imagine having a newborn/toddler onboard, things are hectic enough as it is! Kudos to the other channels cruising with kiddos 👶🏻
Wow, what a great video this week. I’ve loved watching your summer cruise taking the fjords less travelled. I worked as a kayak guide in the early 2000’s and one of my favourite trips was a ten day tour through Hakai.
Allison James , hi from Calgary that post had everything as a viewer I could expect. A great mix of sailing, hiking, beach walking wow and of course anchor catching. Sorry to hear about the raw fish event glad you were able to recover without needing to hit Bella Bella. Also thanks for picking up the beach trash I do it hiking and find crap everywhere from everywhere angers me. cant wait to see the boat projects and follow along to Alaskan waters.
Hey Rick! So glad you enjoyed the random mix in this episode! Lucky the raw fish sickness passed in 48 hours. Probably won’t take that chance next time! The trash everywhere is pretty disheartening. We try to do our best when we can! Can see Alaska from where we are now, cheers!
Finishing up the third season in my new (to me) boat, which I'm currently sailing home to Finland from Sweden. Excellent stuff, and I still have the actual sailing part of the next season to watch.
Awesome, Congrats on the new boat! We’d love to sail Scandinavia, one day! Looking forward to sharing this next season with you! Lots of sailing in recent weeks :)
@@AllisonandJamesSailing Thanks! Scandinavia has the most islands in the world (simple google), even Finland has more than three times that of Canada. Most are quite small, though, but there are more places to visit than you can do in a lifetime.
Drone footage is spectacular. But I also liked how you captured all the little things that one can see when walking on the beach if you look closely. Sand like flour. Isn’t it amazing how you can be in such a beautiful spot all by yourselves. Thanks for cleaning up the beach too. Will miss our weekly vids. But not like we will have WiFi once we set out on our own adventure. Still anxious. Love you 😘😘😘😘
Awh thanks! Takes two to get all the shots in a timely manner haha. I do find we see so much more of a place when trying to capture it on camera. It trains your eye and lends a richness to the experience. We were very fortunate to have such a beautiful place all to ourselves that day! We’d like to be able to watch some of your big adventure! Hope the anxiety diminishes once you’re out there! For now I guess it’s helping you guys to prepare?
Wow brings back the memories of being a fishing guide there in the early 90's. You have inspired my wife and I to retire on the ocean in three years, and head back to those stomping grounds every year. We plan to buy a little bigger sailboat for comfortable living full time, spring summer and fall, and then onshore for the winters, such as yourselves. Hope to run into you guys some day, if you're still floating around up there in three years. Great videos, and both of you are great inspirations. Our retirement is planned.
Gosh that would have been an incredible gig back then!! Thank you!!! Absolutely love to hear that, so amazing you guys!! Sounds like the perfect plan👌🏽 Cheers to that and hope to catch up with you out here then!!

Thanks for another great video! We're really looking forward to your next season. In the meantime, we'll go back and rewatch some of your previous videos - it's sort of like having a really nice video cruising guide for the BC inside passage. Cheers!!!
hi Allison and James love your videos i have a catalina 30 with tiller its great more room in cockpit i can singel hand easy at 69 years of age plus auto pilots are a lot cheaper for tiller take care you guys

Excellent drone photography... Thanks for putting in Lat Long for anchorages. We are heading to the Broughtons this summer. I recall you mentioned the preferred anchorage reference book in a previous video. What was book title again? Best Doug from Anacortes

I know they're not cheap, but with the amount of time you spend at anchor, have you considered installing a manual windless? They can be a back saver! Keep the videos coming! Thanks!
