  • Hi,
    In today's video, we will be showing a basic demonstration of how to install & set up the Victron Energy Smart Battery Protect. This unit can help prevent you from over-discharging your lead-acid battery which may lead to damaging sulphation which can reduce your batteries ability to hold a charge. Automatically shutting off any loads when your battery voltage reaches a certain threshold will help protect the battery and will automatically turn your loads back on once a charging voltage is seen.

    I'm new to working with 12 V systems, trying to learn as much as I can, at my age. I've been searching for some simple instructions on how this device works. And could not find anything basic enough for me to understand. I'm so happy I found your channel, great review for beginners like myself. Thank you!

    Hi, thank you for the review ! i have a question . . i have a problem with my anker powerhouse 757 if there is not enough solar power coming in my anker powerhouse 757 goes tilt mode and turn off all output ports for my cool box and chargers connected to my anker powerhouse . if i put this device between the solar panel and the anker powerhouse you think this will work to turn off my anker powerhouse before it goes tilt mode ?

    Victron specifically warns against connecting loads like inverters directly to the OUT terminal because inverters have large capacitors which cause high inrush current when first switched on, and this will cause the BP to cut power because it will sense a momentary large current and/or voltage drop. Inverters should be connected directly to the IN terminal of the BP, and the OUT terminal on the BP should be connected to the Inverter's remote on/off. That way the BP won't get a false trigger but will still shut the inverter down in case of a true over current/under voltage condition. Other loads can be connected to the OUT terminal in the normal way.

    How does this work with Solar charging ? I assume you have to connect the solar (and B2B and shore charger to that matter) directly to the battery and only the loads to this ? Makes the wiring messy - i've got one positive cable to a fuse box at the moment... Anyway, thanks for the video!

    How to connect a charger (always connected as backup) to charge the battery to a preset % when there was an under voltage and turn the charger off when the preset % in reached ?

    Thank you for the review! Can you set any value manually under "user defined"? So can you set "Under Voltage" to for example 12,5v?

    When the device reaches the low voltage disconnect voltage, is it the voltage measured while under load? or the resting voltage? lets say for example I have a load taking 5 amps and the voltage under load drops to 11.8 volts, when the disconnect operates and the load is disconnected, will the voltage jump to it's resting voltage once the load is disconnected? I've never understood why when a battery is 50% discharged the voltage is in or around 12.2 volts that the disconnect voltage is 11.8 volts, surely that's way below the 50% level?

    • @12VoltPlanetTV
      @12VoltPlanetTV  2 года назад

      If the voltage drop is that large on a load being introduced yes it would be disconnected after 90 seconds. However, we would only see this on large drawing items such as Inverters or a starter motor. As this system is designed to be used in emergency cases and is unlikely to be used daily having the batteries drop to this level once or twice in there lifetime would not cause lasting damage. Although best to make sure your battery does not drop below 50% this is something that can be done with AGM or GEL batteries and still have 400-600 cycles.

    I have a 2000w inverter and a 60amp battery protect. If I put a small 700w heater on then my battery monitor shuts down the system almost immediately even though my relatively new 200ah AGM is fully charged. I don’t understand why this happens. Should I be dividing 700w (call it 1000) by 220v or 12v to get the amps if going through an inverter? Is it shutting down because the amps are too high for the battery protect, or am I simply using too much juice for the battery? Do I solve it with a higher amp battery protect or a bigger battery bank or both? I don’t want to actually use a heater, but maybe other high amp items, so I just want to understand the issue. Thanks.

      @12VoltPlanetTV  2 года назад +1

      It is likely down to the battery voltage dropping when certain appliances are switched on. I would recommend using a voltmeter to monitor this drop and then you will have a better idea of how to move forward. Sadly it may be that due to the high requirements your battery is simply not enough and will need to be upgraded.

    I am replacing my 2 AGM batteries with 2 Lion Energy UT1300 lithium. The UT1300 have their own Battery Management System built in. Should I remove the Victron Energy Smart Battery Protect 12/24-Volt 220 amp? Thank you.

    I just found out that you can't use a battery protect with an inverter, I have 4 100ah victron super cell batteries, a 220 victron amp battery protect and a victron 2000va inverter, do I just wire the inverter directly to the batteries and the battery protect after the inverter so the inverters power is not measured through the battery protect?

    • @12VoltPlanetTV
      @12VoltPlanetTV  2 года назад

      Hi, Victron do not recommend it as their inverters would have a battery protect feature built-in. Other branded inverters that don't have that feature would be able to be used with the Smart Battery Protect.

      @@12VoltPlanetTV Thanks for the reply, yes, I was aware of Victrons advice about not using the battery protect with the inverter, but, I also have 12v direct loads, couple of water pumps and a UV light, is it safe to use the battery protect after the inverter has already had a supply from a bus bar and the direct loads on another post of the bus bar?

    hELLO ! Please, is it necessary (and why) to put a "victron energy battery protect" 🙂😮😮 like I got a good BMS on my battery ? It seems to do a similar job, no ? Thank you. (perhaps have you got also a better idea. Thanks)
