And believe me, I can tell you from EXPERIENCE the first time I went there was an eye opener for me and I was still in my 20s and had already been to a few other places by then. And it still took me a while to feel comfortable due to the crushing poverty, heat, controlled chaos everywhere and people constantly trying to scam you for being a foreigner. Twenty years later, it's not so bad now! :)

What bothers me so much is that he doesn’t even try to get accustomed to their culture, if he really loved her he wouldn’t be complaining as much. I’m from the U.S. but I’ve been to countries very similar to the philippines in their economic status, and it’s really not bad. It’s not “normal” for Americans, and maybe not the best of conditions? Except if someone lives like that their whole life and you judge it, that’s not a way to welcome yourself into their life. They don’t have to be this nice to him, yet he’s swearing and yelling the whole time, judging. In my opinion, everything he complained about would be the least of my worries. The water may be cold, but at least he gets to bathe. It may be too hot out, at least he does have water and shade. There’s a leak, no flooding, though. No bed, at least a place to sleep on other than the floor. Too many wires, at least there’s electricity. And don’t even get me started with the animals, even here in the states we have cockroaches and mice, even snakes and beetles.. except the fact that he’s a grown ass man and afraid makes him seem like a coward. I don’t want to shame him except this is so obvious. This woman takes her time to show him around and welcome him into her culture while she has a full on child to take care of- Does he not know that?? And the fact that he doesn’t even trust her because of her background- w h a t e v s. At least research the country before you visit. 😒
