Sharing my notes after watching 5 steph curry videos straight: 1. Feet - don't be squared up, about 30 degrees turn - shooting hip, elbow, shoulder are all aligned to the basket 2. Don't plant heels, stand on balls of feet 3. One motion shot - never break the plane of your forehead (behind and then forward). Ball never pauses. 4. Shotline - right side of body through his eye brow to the basket. - left hand shoots the ball into his right hand 5. Set point - When fingers point toward eyebrow release, in front of face 6. Middle Finger Release - middle finger directly center of the ball . Last finger to touch ball is middle finger. - palm rotation. From side of the ball and rotate it as you reach your set point so that palm behind the ball 7. Guide Hand - some coaches say fingers facing ceiling the whole time, wrong - Guide hand flicks toward the basket (optional thumb inside) 8. Arm extension - Completely straight after release, locks out. Wrist snaps Drill 1: Bounce ups - bounce above head, 2 footed hop into jumper, dip Drill 2: Pick ups - ball on ground, outside dominate foot, shoot it toward hoop in one fluid motion - avoids 2 motion shot Drill 3: Transition pull up 3's - dribble toward 3 point line with inside hand, pull over ball to dominate hand - for right hand, brush elbow on hip bone Drill 4: 180 3's - spin ball to self, hop catch, locating, aiming
I came here in 2019 to get better and I did, became an excellent 3-point threat in high school, and now I lost it and remembered his channel. Now in 2024 in college I can't shoot like I used to, after watching this I will do them during our practices.
I've been trying to adjust my shot after like 11 years not playing basketball and I have to say that watching this video is helping me remember the process of shooting and how to do the motions and stuff here this really is going to help me in the future. Thank you so much.
Something I love about basketball is that not every player shoots the same way which makes finding something that works for you so much easier cause nothing is the "right shooting style"
I gotta say i recently started to just go on court and play for fun, but my shots wasnt that good i watched couple of videos but it wasnt enough. I´m so glad i bumped into your video, this is exactly what i was wanted to see. Explaning all of these fundamentals one after other really helped me realize that i was doin almost half of those mistakes when i was playin. so thanks for this video and keep up the good work. PEACE( and u got yourself new SUB)
You just blew my mind with that 4th step. I never would have thought to bring the ball TO my right hand in my shooting motion. That's AMAZING! It's going to take SO MUCH REPETITION to break that habit though, but I'm here for it. Thank you so much!

Hey Trainer , im actually a soccer player in the 3th bundesliga but i also play basketball for 2 month .My progress has been insane. I never played basketball cuz i hated it but now its so easy for me to hit one 3 pointer after another. I think i mastered currys shooting form. In my opinion his secret is his rhythm , where he places the thump and his palm rotation. I got a try out training in the first team of my city and they adapted me . Thanks to your work !!
+ShotMechanics no they're alright. but i stopped watching them. now this video is really good. i think because u show urself actually sinking shots, ur words gained more legitimacy.
+CJ831 exactly. i think this guy could 'corner' the market if he chooses to do so. there is this one other dude who does longish vids. the slightly mexican looking, sorta short and stocky dude.
This is so helpful. I just noticed I drop my ankles first than the front of my feet and changing that helped my form and fluidity. Also, I noticed my elbow is too outwards. Changing those immediately helped my pull up a lot smoother in transition. A great tutorial! Great job.
I just want to say, I watched this video a few months ago after getting beat in a tournament during the off season I worked on all these fundamentals, and this season I’ve went from not ever taking a 3, to hitting 9 in the first 2 games of the season
I had never learned form on shooting a basketball, I just tried this and using this technique was incredible. I have a lot of practice to get it right every time, but I'm much more confident in shooting, now!
Thank you shot mechanics, this is really gonna help me with my shooting, where I went wrong and what I really should be doing. I'm actually playing for an U15 team and in training, shooting is one of these things I really have to focus on improving on. This is one of the videos that has really helped me understand how to shoot and what I should be doing in tomorrow's training session.
I’m 5’7 and my original jumpshot was real slow. It had good form but my height made it hard to get it off, I watched this video a few days ago and the day I watched it I went to the court to try it. I turned my feet, and practiced a one motion shot and now I already feel like a better shooter than I was. It’s only been 3 days but the difference is obvious. I feel more confident now.🤙🏼
i am almost 100....and have practiced for over 80 years without much progress shooting the basketball and improving my horrible form... but now with the help of this young man I can finally shoot like stephen curry...thanks a ton I can finally rest in peace!
I like the clear explanation and I can see those adjustments will immediately help my shot. I am finding the more I imitate and emulate shooting like 30 the better I shoot. It would be cool to mix in some Steph shots even more when you explain each different part of the shot. Like, do the explanation the same way you do but for the feet explain then follow with Steph. When you explain the elbow hip show Steph right after you do it. That would help me because I am a visual learner. Keep up the great work. I can feel those adjustments already working in my visualizations and I know I'll shoot better today when I get in there for my 100 shots or so. Peace love and basketball is all we need.
ok its been 2 weeks I think sense I made a comment on this video saying that im not that good well now I am very good now i been practicing sorry if I spell that wrong but im really good now I practice every day and im mostly one of the good people on my team at school and its almost summer and I will be practicing all summer one day I hope I can play in the nba and coach collin your one of the greatest coach your one of the greatest coach In my opinion thank you so much man one of the greatest coaches
I always loved basketball but I never thought I was tall enough or good enough learning fundamentals like this give me so much confidence to allow myself to at least try

+onemogain23 pound the ball man.. its fucking amazing , it feels effortless in game afterwards. pound the ball as hard as u can in practice , if ur not loosing the ball lile crazy than ur not pounding hard enough , the more u loose the ball in practice the better the results
He shoots with just a bit of space between the ball and the palm. He uses a certain type of shooting Its called beef shooting Balance ,Elbow , Elevation , and Followthrough.
(Brace yourself... long ass comment) about the guide hand... the guide hand isn't really primarily there to guide the ball. From an engineering perspective, your 2 arms are on opposing sides of your center of gravity. Therefore, if there is a difference in kinetic energy produced in one hand over the other, this will create torque in your upper body spinning your body off-target Your guiding hand should not only be providing "guidance" but should be providing "support/power" for your shot. Your thumb is EXTREMELY important in this. The more even the workload distribution between your right arm and your left arm, the better... which is partially corrected without even using the guide hand. Self experiment: Try one-hand shooting (I'm sure you have done this before). You are likely to miss short (very short) and opposite direction of your shooting hand. Most would tell you this is because you lack support from the guide hand... but that's not true. Now... the second part to the experiment Try one-hand shooting, but keep your guide hand away from the ball, but still fully extend your guiding arm (make sure you are not touching the ball in any way though). If you have a good enough shooting hand, this may look almost exactly like your regular shot (almost...). This is because the primary arm is heavier (because there is a ball in it) but the guiding arm is farther back. The final point at which your right and left hand are touching the ball, your left arm is at full extension and your right arm is only at 90 degrees. This means in physics terms that the distance traveled (and therefore velocity and momentum both) of the dominant arm (UP TO THE LAST POINT BOTH HANDS ARE GUIDING THE BALL) is more than that of the other arm because the ball is in it... and it is exactly that which needs to be corrected by having your dominant foot forward. Eventually (depending on body type) You need to find the perfect compromise for where the angle needs to be. Sidenote: this can be corrected in the air by moving a foot forward and to the side to correct torquing, but that is a very precise skill... that Steph Curry has mastered btw. If you are a small player, you will need more turn to offset the weight of the ball. If you are a large player, you may need more turn to offset the shoulder tension that comes with being large. If you are somewhere in the middle, you may not need much turn... but I still recommend using more turn than you need for strategic purposes. You can correct your shot through moving your release throughout your fingers to suit nearly any shooting angle... but there are other reasons you need to be more staggered. 1. Your back feet is where your power comes from, and your back foot does the bulk of that (especially if you fade back). The farther back your back foot is, the farther your fade and the more powerful your straight up shot. 2. Your back foot also initiates in any pumpfake and drive situation. Whether you want to cross over, step back, spinmove, draw a foul, hesi, fake cross, or whatever, it's ultimately your back foot that creates any movement toward the basket. 2 feet exactly equidistant from the hoop means you either need to generate your forward motion from your heels (I'm sure you've heard the expression "got him on his heels"... that's bad... it means you have no way of creating forward or backward motion) or you have to pick up a foot and move it back so you can get some momentum moving forward (thereby telegraphing your intent to drive and forcing you to dribble 1 step earlier to avoid the travel call. 3. A staggered stance allows you to dribble between the legs (The most useful dribble in the game). The between the leg dribble is the most usefull for a lot of reasons... most of which are derivative of: a- you have a position with forward, backward, and side to side motion potential. b- Your dribble is going directly under your center of gravity, and therefore doesn't inhibit your speed in any way. c- The ball is not too far forward and your leg is now an obstacle making the strip much more difficult (and costly for the defender if they defend too closely) Between these 3 reasons, you are now able to between the legs dribble into a shot pumpfake crossover crossfake hesi drive spinmove spinmove to post-up euro off either foot euro handoff stepback (either direction) sidefade (either direction) fadeaway (Dirk-style) fade-fake to drive drive-fake to fade fade-fake into drawing a foul and any combo you could name Coaches say that being asymmetrical is a problem... but really it's not. You simply need to have an option to beat the defender in any direction. If your defender has to respect 5 things, you can use one threat to get you an opening for another opportunity. If you have 5 things, you can just fake out your defender nonstop until you get something you will settle for. From your shooting stance, you need 1. Respectable jumpshot 2. Respectable fade 3. Respectable drive 4. move left 5. Move right Me personally, I have 1. a standard jumpshot... not that much vertical 2. a Dirk-style fadeaway 3. a spinmove to drive if the defender gets too close 4. a side-step fade going left (with threat of up-and-under) 5. a spinmove to stepback going right (with the threat of the up-and-under) With this skillset, I can get up a good shot, pick up a foul, or draw a double and dish in 4 to five seconds every single time
Thank you so much I went from shooting 20-30 percent from three to 40-50 I'm days whoever wants to shoot good, watch the video to the end and you will luv the results
thank you so much coach collin I am becoming a lethal guard and my consistency is a lot better one day I wanna be in the NBA and your videos are gonna bring me there. BTW +1 like and +1 sub. again thanks again man 👍😎🏀
Hiya man! I hope you make it in the league.. Me too.. I also want to make it in the big league... I wanna be a first overall pick lol. 😂 too ambitious am I hahahahahahahaha... Hope we get to see each other in the NBA.. If I make it.. LoL 😂..So I hope to see ya in the NBA my friend!!! 😁😁😁😉
Lillard, Ivring, James, Thompson, Durant, Westbrook, all professional basketball players practice everday and shot all the time.. I don't see them being as successful as Curry? What's the deal here dude? I thought if you do things you said that you will be as good as Curry, but how come Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, but not anyone else who does the same thing?
i love your tips i used to not get enough power on my shoot to shoot from 3 but after using your tips on using your entire body on the shot i managed to shoot 4 in a row!! thank you
Thank you so much for a great job that you have done I'm tall with a height of 7'0 and normal child age of 14 yrs please I need your help on this media
FInally! I'm glad you talked about the shot line and how Curry brings the ball to his right hand. Like many, I'm not professional player but have worked on my shot through the years and gotten it to a decent point. But I noticed I struggled at times with my shot off the dribble and with bad passes from teammates. I actually did what you suggested (using the left hand to bring the ball to the shooting line but not consistently). I'm gonna try it now and see if it improves my shot.
Stephen’s shot mechanics are very similar to Roger Federer’s serve. Fluid motion. Elbow, arm, wrist position nearly identical as the bball begins moving toward the basket, as the butt of the tennis racquet begins moving toward the 🎾. The wrist motion in tennis is called pronation... however in both sports the motion is like lifting your arm from your side and pointing at your target, with a loose supple arm and wrist. Old school Pistol Pete Maravich, elbow in ,,,u shape...point. The mechanics in the video are reasonably well explained...what requires closer attention is Stephen’s body mechanics...and the physics vector forces. If the multiple vector forces in action are not closely aligned, like the poor alignment when taking the ball back behind your head, requires a lot of less than shuttle adjustments to keep your shot aligned...to keep the force vectors aligned. Poor alignment and the jump shoot shooter is not coming back down to the court from the point he/she took off from. A good shooter sticks the landing...like a gymnast. A good shooter keeps his/her head still, eye fixed on your target...like Roger Federer stay focused on the tennis ball. If you do not have the physique and flexibility of Stephen Currie, or Roger Federer, the series of fluid motion explained may be far more difficult for you...don’t be discouraged. Shack was a less than ideal free throw shooter...huge hand...stiff wrist. Tennis player, basketball player, basketball coach, physics instructor.
Nice video, I will likely add the turn and shoot drills to my routine in addition to my usual step up, left, right, back and shoot. I think I’ve got a smooth shot, but finding that balance before pulling the trigger is key.
Who's Who hey man your not trash don't listen to what the negative people are saying just go in to the gym and get some shots up pay attention to your form and work on getting a one motion shot also work on your non dominant hand layups and dribbling with that hand and you'll be good
My coach forces me to keep my legs sqaured to the basket I really hate it. I now shoot really bad, I used to have a very good jumper and I used to make most of my shots. I told him about this video and he said that "you shouldn't believe everything the internet says"
I shoot better with my feet facing the basket, and my right foot in front. I'm really trying to shoot good with a tilt, but it doesn't work for me, but I have a very slight tilt when i shoot.
Idk Idk for one do whatever helps the team he's clearly not doing his job if he's coaching u in the opposite direction ignore him and do what helps the team
+TheOneAndOnlyNinja1 Way to be a duche, I mean, I would want to be like Steph since the dude is not only the best shooter in the NBA but he also hit 12 Threes! That's A NBA RECORD!

He shoots with just a bit of space between the ball and the palm. He uses a certain type of shooting Its called beef shooting Balance ,Elbow , Elevation , and Followthrough.
Just use your emperor eye lmao
+Ghostables lmao nice KnB reference
+Jessica Rivera it's balance elbow eyes and follow through
What I learned from Steph was just to get my elbow directly under the ball, from there my shot improved. A lot more “nothing-but-net” makes.
James Harden could be also good for a blueprint
No
+Doosix a good defence blueprint

+Detective K u stupid Stephen curry can shoot better than any body 🏀🏀🏀
Want me to teach you guys?
yea
+Chef Curry No because you never teach your own shooting form. You just teach whatever others say you should you.
yes

(Brace yourself... long ass comment)
about the guide hand... the guide hand isn't really primarily there to guide the ball.
From an engineering perspective, your 2 arms are on opposing sides of your center of gravity. Therefore, if there is a difference in kinetic energy produced in one hand over the other, this will create torque in your upper body spinning your body off-target
Your guiding hand should not only be providing "guidance" but should be providing "support/power" for your shot.
Now... the second part to the experiment
Try one-hand shooting, but keep your guide hand away from the ball, but still fully extend your guiding arm (make sure you are not touching the ball in any way though).
The between the leg dribble is the most usefull for a lot of reasons... most of which are derivative of:
a- you have a position with forward, backward, and side to side motion potential.
b- Your dribble is going directly under your center of gravity, and therefore doesn't inhibit your speed in any way.
c- The ball is not too far forward and your leg is now an obstacle making the strip much more difficult (and costly for the defender if they defend too closely)
Between these 3 reasons, you are now able to between the legs dribble into a
shot
pumpfake
crossover
crossfake
hesi
drive
spinmove
spinmove to post-up
euro off either foot
euro handoff
stepback (either direction)
sidefade (either direction)
fadeaway (Dirk-style)
fade-fake to drive
drive-fake to fade
fade-fake into drawing a foul
and any combo you could name
Coaches say that being asymmetrical is a problem... but really it's not.
You simply need to have an option to beat the defender in any direction.
If your defender has to respect 5 things, you can use one threat to get you an opening for another opportunity.
If you have 5 things, you can just fake out your defender nonstop until you get something you will settle for.
From your shooting stance, you need
1. Respectable jumpshot
2. Respectable fade
3. Respectable drive
4. move left
5. Move right
Me personally, I have
1. a standard jumpshot... not that much vertical
2. a Dirk-style fadeaway
3. a spinmove to drive if the defender gets too close
4. a side-step fade going left (with threat of up-and-under)
5. a spinmove to stepback going right (with the threat of the up-and-under)
With this skillset, I can get up a good shot, pick up a foul, or draw a double and dish in 4 to five seconds every single time
I fully agree with that whole statement.
9:00 Steph Curry actually use a thumb flick and a right hand drift to allow directional consistency.
I feel like steph because I watch this video all the time.

how to shoot just like Stephen curry: you can't
Wanna make a bet it's called practice anyone can be as good as him if they practice everyday and shoot all the time
+EpIk_ gAmErZ he was being sarcastic dude
+EpIk_ gAmErZ you showed him
Lillard, Ivring, James, Thompson, Durant, Westbrook, all professional basketball players practice everday and shot all the time..
I don't see them being as successful as Curry?
What's the deal here dude? I thought if you do things you said that you will be as good as Curry, but how come Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, but not anyone else who does the same thing?
he has the right form
13:22 super helpful
i love your tips i used to not get enough power on my shoot to shoot from 3 but after using your tips on using your entire body on the shot i managed to shoot 4 in a row!! thank you

I'm gonna try it now and see if it improves my shot.
and i know when that shot line bling

I'm confused i thought you were supposed to shoot off your fingertips and not have it in your palm please reply asap!!
Tim Lewis preference you could shoot with two fingers and if it works well then use it
Tim Lewis same takes it to the extreme. He has palm only and then slaps it sometime👌
I need you as my coach
This guy is awesome. Best tutorial on RUclips. Can’t wait to hit the court.
Stephen Curry has a thumb flick but not as much any more and sometimes he shoots with his pointer finger
Shack was a less than ideal free throw shooter...huge hand...stiff wrist.

i tend to hit myself in the forehead when i bring it above my head lol. any tips on how to not do that?
Hello It's ma lmao fuck you

Oscar Carrasco it's called having a bad form lmao
Nathan M he'll nah yo head big asl
Infernus Ape hell* and nah it's really not. it's called BAD SHOOTING FORM. it doesn't happen to me anymore.
I would only want Steph curry ray Allen or Reggie to teach me

+ShotMechanics dudr can you start proving it pls i want to see yes i practice but i just want to see
Nice video, I will likely add the turn and shoot drills to my routine in addition to my usual step up, left, right, back and shoot. I think I’ve got a smooth shot, but finding that balance before pulling the trigger is key.
is ray allen a 2 motion shooter?
Yeah
??
+Cj HitEmUp what are you talking about? Look at that obvious pause in his form

My 7th grade coach expected us to make a 3pointer already
Who's Who your supposed to make a 3 point in 5th gradr
Jordan Fent Lmao I make 3 pointers all day I'm in 7th too
ive been shooting them since like 2nd grade
+Who's Who
If you can't then you're fucking trash and your team is too.
Who's Who hey man your not trash don't listen to what the negative people are saying just go in to the gym and get some shots up pay attention to your form and work on getting a one motion shot also work on your non dominant hand layups and dribbling with that hand and you'll be good
This Channel helped me. Yesterday was our Sportsfest my team won because of me... Thanks to this channel i learned how to be the best
Has your coach seen most of the players in the NBA shoot? Most of them are turned a little. Steph Curry, For example.
Idk Idk for one do whatever helps the team he's clearly not doing his job if he's coaching u in the opposite direction ignore him and do what helps the team
Kush Patel he’s stupid
fuck him then. ignore him and watch this video.
Any one else here because of the thunder game?
Here
+Feed Clan Haha yep!
+Feed Clan I'm hoping for a Thunder vs. Warriors Western Conference Finals after that one!!!!
+TheOneAndOnlyNinja1 Way to be a duche, I mean, I would want to be like Steph since the dude is not only the best shooter in the NBA but he also hit 12 Threes! That's A NBA RECORD!
Still, in the record books where it says "Most 3-Pointers in a Game", it will say Kobe Bryant, Donyell Marshall, and Stephen Curry.
whos here in 2024

BOIiii dont lemme get you do your own shooting form dont copy people shooting form cause you trash :T
im good at everything but i suck at shooting when i am with someone when im alone i shoot like i have the record
