    Look at this......a young kid who was moved by some of the scenes of a duo who was way, way, WAY before her time.
    Remarkable.

    As a kid in the seventies, they showed old comedies every Saturday morning. I watched them all but especially Laurel and Hardy. I laughed so much. I dressed up like Stan for Halloween, but now I know I needed an Ollie for that. I love entertainer biopics. My jaw dropped when I found the trailer. This is FANTASTIC!!!. I can't wait! I haven't seen movies in years but this is an event! HURRY UP and GET HERE!

    The filmmakers have called it a "love letter" to L&H, so I don't think you have to worry about it being contrived or a hatchet job. Sony Pictures, the US distributor, arranged for some early screenings (it was supposed to be a 2019 release) to qualify Reilly and Coogan for Oscar considerations. That tells me the performances must be very good indeed. I can't wait for this either; I LOVE Laurel & Hardy. Always have, always will.

    God, I just found out about this today and I am so emotional from watching it. So few of the younger generations after these guys were on regular syndication have ever heard of them. It makes you sad that such an iconic duo could be lost to the ages. I used to love watching their shorts on Saturday mornings in the 80's even more than cartoons. They had been dead long before I was born, but hearing people not know of them as my generation grows older was like they were dying all over again. Seeing this mainstream flick get this kind of attention and early talks of Oscar nominations is like them being brought back to life.

    I just got done watching 'Stan & Ollie'. Wow!! I've never seen two actors embody the characters they're playing more, than John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan!! From their look to their voices and even the subtle little gestures. The story of their "friendship" was great, but the acting performances were AMAZING!! Those two are Laurel and Hardy doppelgangers!!

    I can't wait to see the film bio of my favourite double act Stan and Ollie. The film clip depict a downfall of the two comics but it is the end that prevail victory during their tour of England and the world. Laurel and Hardy were too funny and sentimental for any of their fans old and new to shut the door on them. Yes the film showing next month is about the latter period of the duos career and the test of time gave them eternal laughter and happiness to all people in the world and in fact the film could only continue their successful legacy.

  • @QuinnZoneStudios
    @QuinnZoneStudios 6 лет назад +5

    So happy you like these guys! A couple of my friends were consulted for this. So people who really know, are stating that the bickering never really happened between the two of them and that Stan was happy for Oliver to go off and make those two films without him. So far, that seems to be the only issue people are having with it. Otherwise it appears hardcore fans and experts alike are looking forward to it and expect it to be very good. Such a tricky thing to pull off too. Guess I'm going to have to finish my Stan documentary now finally as that will compliment this very well!

    • @rackinfrackin
      @rackinfrackin 6 лет назад

      I guess they needed some kind of dramatic conflict, because Stan did NOT have an issue with Hardy's appearance in "Zenobia." (Hardy was still under contract to Hal Roach at the time, and refusing the role wasn't really an option.) That said, the trailer looks FANTASTIC, and as a L&H fanatic I can tell you I am VERY stoked. In all other respects it looks like a labor of love. I can't wait for this...

      The other film that Oliver Hardy starred in without Stan Laurel, was the 1949 film, "The Fighting Kentuckian", which starred John Wayne. I have only seen parts of that film, but from what I have seen, Hardy did a laudable job in a supporting role as Wayne's sidekick in the film.

      I love the point where Rachel realizes this film isn't just going to be another superficial Hollywood product, but will have significant emotional depth. I hope it does for L&H what "Ed Wood" did for Bela Lugosi. That is, bring about a re-evaluation of their work, and some belated appreciation in the form of film restoration and preservation. UCLA is working on that now but they could use more funding, and it's long overdue.

    • @LaptopLarry330
      @LaptopLarry330 5 лет назад +1

      I did not see any "Laurel And Hardy" short films on television until the 1990s, because local TV stations in the Cleveland and Youngstown-Warren, Ohio TV markets did not want to pay the high copyright fees that MGM and Viacom wanted them to pay. The Three Stooges got LOTS of airplay in our local TV market, because the comedy trio were badly managed when they signed their contracts with Columbia Pictures, and by the time Larry Fine and Moe Howard died in the early-1970s, Columbia Pictures were able to cut a deal with Viacom to charge very cheap copyright fees to the local TV stations.

    The conflict was basically invented for the film, and Laurel didn't really resent Hardy making his solo film ZENOBIA(legend has it the film used Harry Langdon as a replacement for Laurel, but Langdon is only a supporting player in it. Billie Burke is really Hardy's co-star).

    This has the potential to be a great dramatic film. "Stan And Ollie" depicts the comedy duo at a very vulnerable point in their careers, and their struggles to remain relevant in a changing entertainment industry., along with their own personal struggles, and their efforts to resolve ongoing disputes with each other. John C. Reilly IS Oliver Hardy in this film, and should earn an Academy Award and/or a Golden Globe Award for his performance in this film. Steve Coogan does a very credible performance as Stan Laurel. Perhaps he may win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

    I never got to see Laurel and Hardy in the theatres. I'm 65, and like the rest of us Baby Boomers, I discovered L&H on TV and immediately fell in love with them. I'm so amazed that someone as young as Rachel not only knows who Stan and Ollie are, but loves them so much. Watching her emotional reaction to the movie trailer moved me a great deal. Most people of her generation haven't the slightest idea who Laurel and Hardy are. I made sure to share my love of L&H with my kids. It's nice to know other parents are doing the same for their children. L&H's comedy is timeless and transcends cultures. People all over the world knew and loved L&H. May they always be remembered! Today's "comedy" of profanity and fart jokes doesn't come close to the wonderful, sweet comedy of this beloved duo.

    at 1:31 that mustv'e been where they got the inspiration for "The Music Box", or it reminded them of their more successful years - as someone who lives in Los Angeles and is a big Laurel & Hardy fan, have you been to the Music Box steps in Silverlake? If you haven't, I suggest you make the pilgrimage, just to be there, taking the same steps as Stan & Ollie took was very surreal and mind blowing for me

    I so agree. I remember as a little kid, my grade school principal had a film projector and he literally played Laurel and Hardy movies for us kids to watch at the auditorium. I remember laughing so hard and kids would look at me in astonishment especially "Way Out West." They are far, far better than the Three Stooges. I mean, Stooges were great to a degree but Laurel and Hardy were more than just humor, it was really about friendship and a sweetness about them, that child-like humor. And for years I have always wondered if they would ever make a movie about them and I was blown away from the trailer and the right actors they choose. Even the makeup artist did a fantastic job as they did with Winston Churchill without the digital effects. Amazing.

    I'm in Germany and i grew up with both, Laurel&Hardy and The Three Stooges. First two in 30-minutes-epusodes, the second as short-movies during a kids-show. Found and find both funny, but Laurel&Hardy were somehow closer to me. And i'm really looking forward to see this movie and really hope that there'll be a german release at the movies, too, and not just direct to DVD/Blu-ray. Although i won't watch it alone at the movies cause i'm darn sure that it will make me cry several times, so fortunately my boyfriend liked the trailer and will surely come with me :)
    I haven't seen a clip from you before, Rachel, just somehow stubbled across it while searching stuff around the trailer. And i guess that you kind of felt like me while watching the trailer. Emotions somewhere between happy smiling, being excided, but also being pretty close to crying cause the trailer is so touching.

    That's just dumb. "Non, je ne regrette rien" was written in 1956 by Charles Dumont and first recorded by Edith Piaf in 1960, while this movie is about the final UK tour of Stan and Ollie in 1953. Oliver Hardy died in 1957. There is absolutely no way that Stan Ollie could have had a conversation about that song.

    I liked Laurel and Hardy and saw a little bit of 3 Stooges, but I mostly grew up on Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

    The difference between the Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy is, first: L and H characters really liked and loved each other in spite of themselves. They used the slow burn reaction....The Three Stooges had no love for each other in their act, it was constant action, agitation, and just plain meanness. Curly was the most lovable because he appealed to the audience. The Stooges most likely appeal to the male audiences and their need for for validating aggressive behavior similar their out of control adolescent testosterone drive and animal instincts. The Three Stooges had less of a chance to appeal to the more emotional female audiences than L and H. The relationship between those two was friendship and forgiveness. But I have seen women in my family try to make logic out of comedy that relies on slapstick and dumbness, and walk away frustrated. The first mistake is EVER trying to make logic out of any kind of humor. For Christ's sake, humor is based on chaotic situations, coverups, and stupidity. But some like Abbott and Costello better because they are more verbal. But often there was no love between the Abbott and Costello characters either. Abbott could be very mean physically and insulting to Costello too...they have only seen the famous Who's on First Routine and decide A and C are okay. Big soundbite type mistake.. However, it seems most women and male intellectuals cannot stand L and H unless they grew up watching Laurel and Hardy and understand the characters, NOT take them so seriously and understand them in the context of the era those characters lived in, which is so different from now. What if women asked "What if Laurel and Hardy were women instead of men?" The answer would be "Women would never be so stupid" Well, I remember Lucy and Ethel, Laverne and Shirley, Thelma and Louise etc. it;s all fiction for entertainment. HAHAHAH. Then there was the Marx Brothers..oh God, don't get me started...the movie producers did not know what to do with them they were so wacky....
