A shanty from the West Indies. A version was recorded by Peter Bellamy in 1983. The song was originally collected by Stan Hugill and also by Cecil Sharp. They suggest a link between shanties and some slave songs. June Tabor recorded a version 1997 and noted, "Sometimes sung as Challo Brown, Challo being the Carib for half-castes.
