I have Photo Laser Plus so now I have to try it. I also have Corel suite and it takes a long time to get a good image because of all the tweaks. I am anxious to give the Photo Laser Plus a test. Great video.

I've found that for photos, I've gotten the best results using Photoshop by converting to grayscale, bitmap with 800 dpi, 45° angle and 50-55 lpi for larger images such as what you had in the video and 60-65 lpi for smaller images such as something like 8x10. Save as a jpeg then upload to your engraving software. Depending on how powerful your computer is, it may take a while to upload because of the halftones.

Thanks for the video. I currently use the Photolaser Plus on an edge 24 80 watt... have you tried messing with exporting from Photolaser as an Ai to see if it was the same results? In case you wanted to use a clipping mask or other similar work arounds in Ai after it has been prepped for laser.
I’ll have to look into that more. I’m just getting started with it.

I'm curious whether or not Image-R and PhotoLaser+ took dithering into account when they processed the photos, giving you a black and white image to work with (instead of a grey scale one). Zooming in to the processed image would tell you. In that case, the appropriate selection in the driver for dithering would have been "None".
I honestly don’t know if it takes it into account or not. I’ll have to ask that one on the photo laser plus side. I highly doubt imag-r takes it into account as the “dithering” is an Epilog thing. I don’t know if other lasers also have dithering.
@@MakerExperiment Dithering is actually a print industry thing - it's how you fake greys when all you have to work with is black ink. Halftones (like a photo in the newspaper) are a form of dithering.

I watched a video yesterday on the Louisiana hobby guys channel and one of the things he did was defocus the laser by 4mms as well as figure out the settings. Check it out and see if that helps you get better results.
