Yeah, I agree. Just remember that the stated purpose of the video was to end a fight quickly using a "quick kill" maneuver that would completely incapacitate an opponent in moments. Given that definition it's not surprise that they don't work on experienced martial artists. This is more focused on the street I guess.
Sakuraba nearly pulled the 2nd move off against carlos newton. It's legit catch wrestling and valid. That said it's a higher level move than it appears to be. It's not the maneuver itself but the way you bait your opponent. It's very hard to pull off in straight grappling because if you grab someone's foot it's easy to say "Hey footlock" but when you're punching at their face your opponent's foot won't be his primary concern.
There are thousands of moves in martial arts and none of them will work every time and for everybody it depends on how good you are at them and how good your opponent is and other things like flexibilty, clothing, the evironment your in and so on.
Andy's Mad House I've seen it in karate competitions, shodokan aikido competitions, tai chi push hands competitions... Idk why, I just think it's awesome and I want to learn it.
this shit looks more practical than gracie jujitsu, whers the hell was this guy in 93 ufc 1 and why hasn't he taken the gracie challenge?! catch wrestling > gracie jujitsu any day.
In 93 he was studying with the Gracie family (since 1986) and winning Shooto tournaments in Japan. The reason he hasn't taken the Gracie Challenge is, he'd get his ass handed to him on a platter.
i thought the gracies disowned him after a defeat, even forbade him from training bjj so he went and trained with the machado's instead. fuckers made a mistake
@Mider999 Dude, are you seriously analysing my joke THAT much? It was an off-hand remark about his shirt that I wrote half a year ago, that clearly at least one other person (apart from you) found funny. Let it go.
@denebgarza and Karidaty. Alot of keyboard warriors coming on youtube. Erick Paulson could beat you and everyone you know in consecutive order. He weighs 65 pound more now. Its a demo video. And then after you pulled your legs out, he would have already broken several of your limbs in a real fight.
I agree, that is why I specifically stated that they just don't work for ME and why I fail to do them (the immediate guard pulling). Maybe more pressure on the side of the opponent's left knee while my rib cage is pushing on his right leg (given the position from the video @2:40) but still. I believe that's unnecessary while you clearly have the guard pass off the beautiful takedown which = points (if grappling) and more options (if full contact fighting). Maybe this is a good surprise attack???
watching this again after trying for months to pull these moves off @ the gym I just had a revelation. they're crap against anyone who can actually grapple. I love Paulson, I trained under one of his students in the UK, CSW is amazing but the moves in this video are just... maybe I'm not good enough to pull them off but the second you put someone on their back like that you're gonna have knee on your belly while they scramble for guard so those leg locks are out of the question. At least for me.
Only Erik Paulson can kick ass wearing a Star Trek DS9 uniform. Amazing.
Haha so true
These were unbelievable. Paulson is definitely one of the best teachers on the planet, and one of the scariest fighters you could ever face.
The man is a legend he was a great fighter and IS A GREAT TRAINER. Love his dvds and wow his seminars are 2nd to none!
-Erik Paulson is one of the best grapplers to ever grace martial arts. I've always appreciated his flawless technique!
I love Erik Paulson's techniques and the way he chains everything together.
As a fighter. Paulsen was well ahead of his time and as a coach. He's one of the best. He trained Josh Barnett and Brock Lesnar
This is so freaking good!
Nothing else like it!
I had all my students memorize it.
Brilliant and beautiful techniques! Thank you Mr. Paulson.
Sensei is proof that hard work perseverance and creativity combined with good Faith ,will give you no limitations 🏋️♂️❤️🙏
VERY NICE TUTORIAL FROM A GREAT LEGEND AND COACH CATCH WRESTLING TECHNIQUES AND COMBAT TOOLS. :)
Loving his style
I love it! Awesome combos/grappling.
Great clip, as usual from Paulson, though he is looking like he just walked in from a Star Trek Convention! :)
I never heard of this guy but he is amazing i stumbled on to him watching catch wrestling man this stuff great
Paulson is superb
Some of these are still Soo effective
Powerful Erik Paulsen in his Star Trek cosplay
If I had the money I'd buy all the Erik Paulson DVDs
i actually feel a little special that i am one of the only 7282 people to view this...
Fantastic!
Great video, excellently explained as usual, everything nice and fluid. Did Erik deliberately try to look like Captain Picard in this?

-Erik is really good...As far as I'm concerned he is the authority on combat grappling. I feel like the only other guy out there was Larry Hartsell.
Wish they wouldn't have sped up the video, but it is still wicked awesome
great stuff realy constructive
Badass
Excellent stuff
Freaking Awesome 😎
Wicked!
These quick leg locks need to be used in MMA, right?

savage knowledge
That takedown at about 0:30 seconds in (it's a very quick clip, right after the kick)... does it have a name?
Andy's Mad House Actually, I think it's called sukui nage (in judo).
Andy's Mad House
I've seen it in karate competitions, shodokan aikido competitions, tai chi push hands competitions... Idk why, I just think it's awesome and I want to learn it.
+Chaos Omega IN DEATH, WE HAVE A NAME. OUR NAME IS ROBERT PAULSEN.
... Uh.... OK.
Chaos Omega fight club
Killing as in killing his game, his defense, his strategy, his will & ability to fight...?
All so Gene Lebell and Gokor.
Is that a Starfleet Captain rashguard? If so, where does one buy one?
@Mider999 It was called a "joke". Might want to look that term up.
it worth his weight in gold.thanks.
He must teach his techniques to Star Fleet academy, he's wearing a star trek uniform!
o professor paulson novo e magro.... legal
True

TENNSUMITSUMA he answered this in his interview.check the rolled up episode featuring sifu erick

I really doubt that would happen and if it did it would be because of his age and conditioning. Some of the moves he does kill BJJ
Paulson was a Gracie student starting in 1986, you fucking idiot. Do the math.
i thought the gracies disowned him after a defeat, even forbade him from training bjj so he went and trained with the machado's instead. fuckers made a mistake
Star Trek shirt!
And these combinations are so effective that the number of competitors using them in MMA is ... well, it's around zero actually but NEVER MIND THAT!
never known about de la riva..
@karidaty Too true. Anyone with at least some common sense won't leave their legs resting on their opponents lap while they get punched at...
@Mider999 Dude, are you seriously analysing my joke THAT much? It was an off-hand remark about his shirt that I wrote half a year ago, that clearly at least one other person (apart from you) found funny. Let it go.
the Philippine flag..yeah!!!

Paulson totally should have beat James Warring back in the 90s even though Warring was hair pulling.
Hair pulling was legal in that tournament and Paulson walked into the cage with a full ponytail ... What ... a ... Dumb-ass.
Submissions weren't allowed in that fight.
Tony Jaa i ment to say.
Star Trek rash guard
0:30
0:34
Hahaha
It should be called quick leglocks, I see no killing moves at all. Good stuff however.
If he gets a leglock on you your feet or legs they will be dead for awhile if he decides to breaks them.
