I really loved Starter Villain by John Scalzi, sci-fi book that was hilarious. It’s short too. Other sci-fi books would definitely be Project Hail Mary, Red Rising, and Dark Matter to just get your foot in the door!

I only read a couple of books this month. One was 'Shadow of a Smile' (I met the author many years ago, a very humble fellow), and the very famous and popular 'Life of P.I'.
Shadow of a Smile is thematically heavy, but the writing is very wistful and breezy. Life if P.I, in my opinion, makes the best and most convincing argument for religious devotion that I've ever previously read/heard/seen. I'm not sure about the actual story, but the intelligence, insight, and wisdom that inform this book are quite fascinating.

I think with 100 years you'll have to understand that gabriel knows that these behaviours aren't normal, he know's about how gross it is that two brothers chose to have sex with the same old woman and everything else that happens in the story. because it's more about the theme of solitude and of war and what it does to generations and families
I absolutley adore 100 years, I think it's a brilliant tale and a book you can't really understand and digest the first time you uread it and you'll have to read analysis of it to see things you haven't realized. it's truly a masterpiece

    Scifi favorites:
    - Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers (russian authors never fail) is my absolute favorite. This story describes the aftermath of humanity's first contact with aliens, who have visited earth in an apparent trivial pitstop, leaving behind mysterious "zones" which humanity as you can imagine is keen to dissect, however sinister the consequences are. It is deeply philosophical and fascinating, and inspired the famous movie Stalker by Tarkovsky as well as the video game STALKER.
    - The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series by Douglas Adams is another favorite. It balances sci fi with comedy and philosophy and is truly a page turner. When reading it I was often reminded of Gogol's writing and humor
    honorable mention --
"Space Prison" by Tom Godwin. This story follows several generations of people in their fight to survive the dangerous environment of a planet which an alien race left them to die at. To me this is closer to a true sci-fi than the other two I mentioned, in that it could easily be the plot of a star trek episode. Very entertaining

    SF recommendations:
    Dune - Frank Herbert
    Three-Body Problem - Liu Cixin
A Canticle for Leibowitz - Walter M. Miller Jr.
    1984 - George Orwell
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
I think all print editions of Solaris in English are a retranslation of the French translation so it's not the best. I highly recommend watching Tarkovsky's film adaptation of the novel which adds a religious element on top of Lem's hard science fiction. I've watched it like 15 times and always discover new layers.

I adore the Count Of Monte Cristo! I read it in 2023 and plan to read it again in 2025.
