Hey Folks! For daily and up-to-date posts, I invite you to join the Green Mountain community outside of RUclips! My website: www.GMMD.us Facebook: Facebook.com/GreenMountainMetalDetecting Instagram: @Green.Mountain.Metal.Detecting
I just purchased my first home in Vermont, and for father's day got a metal detector, I have been trying to find a hobby since I lost my dad, keep up good work! I'm super stoked hopefully I can join a forum for the states dectorists!
My mother came from the O'Grady family who lived in Vermont. I'd only been to visit my grandparents in Vermont a few times in the early 60's. The last two times I went there was for the funeral of my grandmother in the late 60's, and then my grandfather in the early 70's. I can't remember the actual years.
Nice to see the green mountains of VT. Probably won’t make it there this summer because of the pandemic. Just bought the Garret AT Pro since I also detect salt water beaches. Loving it! Thanks for the vid. Safe hunting. M
The "garter" piece looks more like the hanging piece for a calendar or a picture. A good clue is that oval section is designed for a nail head to go in then the weight of the piece holds it in place where it is smaller than the size of the nail head. Entertaining as always!
Nice hot summer adventure. We are in the 90s here in Florida and the water is looking really inviting! Thanks for sharing another good video Brad. Mike in hot sunny Florida
Hi Brad, Hi Chris, enjoyed the hunt and finds. Not too bad for such a hot day. Great video. Happy first time back Chris, detecting Vermont. Thanks guys, Joyce. Connecticut 🇺🇸 ARROW *🎱
Great video! I so enjoy watching and learning from your channel. The little piece you were holding at the 15:34 mark appears to me to be the lock mechanism for a an old glass mason type jar lid.
Brad, The small clip attached to the iron piece is called a corsett busk. Ive dug dozens of them. There would have been several of those clips attached to an iron strip that stiffened the back of a woman's lace up corsett.
Brad - you should consider going back to this place and detecting the old road you found. Those are always good places to detect! People dropped stuff as they traveled.
I agree with Marcia. That ring is a watering bit (snaffle). I learned so much by watching KC Steve . Learned a great deal from you also Brad. Awesome videos,Thanks You!
I enjoyed it! It was slow, to you guys but not to us! Great finds! Nice to meet you Chris! I'm from NM I can tell you it's different! We're dry dessert 😋. Thank you Brad for another great video with GMMD!
Hi Brad, that wasn't a hitch it was part of a Loose ring Snaffle bit for a horse, a very common bit still in use to this day, in fact I have one on my horse's old bridle. Some cool finds though but I think my favourite find was the trunk handle. Thanks for sharing a great day. xx
Your "hitch" is 1/2 of a broken snaffle bit from a horse or mule bridle. Nice finds. I HATE swinging over hard, dry, packed dirt. It seems like it's always either blazing hot or freezing cold with no in between when the ground is like that.
If the landowner found the carriage/wagon step on a stone wall, maybe prior to his purchase of the property, it could have been detected before? Sometimes detectorists leave unwanted finds for others or landowners, Thinking maybe that could be another reason for lack of finds. Enjoyed today's video as usual. Your videos are the show I look forward to every week, tv is out the door., figuratively! LOL!
Brad & Chris.... ya found some things but it seems like not much was dropped in the day... except for things that broke off or was worn off... 2 Indian head Pennies gives that clue to the things being scarce. Yet there could be more under all that rocky ground.... and tough digging..! =)
Any history saved is a great day of digging. Great video. Glad you were able to save some usable drone video before the crash. Lol did you only focus around the known building foundation and road? The hill up behind you'd think would have been a better location for the house? Maybe not. Lol I'm not use to hills. We the flatness around here.
Brad do you have an album up anywhere? I'd love it if you just did a video/videos with just your songs, maybe over some of your drone footage/b-roll, you write lovely, relaxing, atmospheric stuff
Hello. Any thoughts to come out to visit Europe with your metal detectors? I have found everything you can think of going back 2000 years ago until today. In the United States one can only hope to find a hammered coin from the year 1650`s that is very, very rare on the east coast in Florida. Hey 40 years doing this you have a lot to learn!
So whats worse, blackflies or the heat? For me its the blackflies. lol. Glad to see the drone didn't end up in a tree this time out (sorry couldn't resist). Thanks for the great videos.
Good job considering you're essentially sifting tails, no way you's are the first, (or second or third), folks seeking that land. Think 50-60 years with machines and another 50-60 just kicken dirt. Loved the penny, great shape. It's so easy for me to say be more carefull digging, but I aint out hitting iron in the 90' sunfor 6-7 hours. Great channel, thanks.
I think the clip piece that Chris found, that resembles a garter clip, is one of many clips along one side of a corset. You are problem NOT the first to hunt that l land, I don't know how long that landowner had owned that property but I believe it's been cherry picked with you guys getting some of the items that the others h hasn't found (just a thought). Congrats Chris for finding some great relics while hanging out with your long time friend and m my favorite detectorist n Brad 😀 I'm glad you two were able to eek out a few notable finds. A Fatty IHP is getting harder to find these days so that alone is a treasure in of itself 👍☺ You guys have a great weekend!!
That hitch thing is half of a loose ring snaffle bit, which goes on a horses bridle and in a horses mouth. It looks as if the jointed mouth piece has broken. Love seeing all horse tack and harness.
The round head bolt, on the step, is on the upside of the floor boards of the carriage.. wont snag shoes etc on the bolt head. go to hardware store, ask for carriage bolts,, they all have the round heads. the hitch ring,,, most for sure half of a snaffle bit for a horse. keep it up, my friend!!
That garter clip on a piece of iron is most likely a section of a corset busk. Busks were used as a method to get in and out of a corset without re-lacing.
Thanks, this is the first video I've seen the Apex going head to head with the AT Max. I'm curious about the depth and target response. I've found that when I come across a civil war vet's land it either has been lived on by the family and has relics from the different periods or in your case, next to nothing. I can only venture a guess that there were plenty of PTSD vet's from the war that led very secluded lives and didn't accumulate many possessions.
your garter clip on the piece of metal could be a picture hook or a mirror hook so you pass the large hole over the screw head then slide it down to the narrow part to lock. still for sale today. great music,
Been watching your vids for a few years. Passively. Recent changes have awakened the active watcher in me. Whatever you've done might be good for the channel.
I've found a few suspender clips just like the second one shown. They usually have a pat. Date if it's not too worn. It's usually 1860s to 1870s which fits with the rest of the items found.
I saw a video that the detectorist mentioned how the post office on rural delivery would actually cash checks at the mailbox and collect coins for postage payment, often the owner or postman accidently dropped some change at the mailbox. The driveway at the road intersection could have some results.
Yet another great video . Do the land owners usually let you keep what you find or do they want to them like this owner ? Keep up the great work Brad God bless
Friday morning and it's a beautiful day! Sitting outside with the dogs watching another great GMMD video. I do have a ton of questions about the APEX tho. What do you think of it? I really want one for my primary machine. I was thinking about the Nox600 but that's more money than I can save for a while. The APEX seams to be the answer. What is your assessment of the machine? We trust you.
So Brad, do you think the Apex is better than the AT Pro & Max? Myself im an equinox guy, tho i started with the Pro & Max which is part of my arsenal.
No way that carriage step ended up on top of a rock without other detectorists having been there before you and your buddy. I'd like to see you compare the deus and the new garrett on another site that hasn't been hunted out.
Brad, Nice group hunt. If you have an Apple phone, look up or get(it's free), the Leaf Snap app. I think you'll find it useful as one who loves the plants and trees as well as the History. Cheers, Rik Spector
Nice! Just got an Apex that I won and I can’t wait to use it! Also, might I ask what camera or video set up you are using? It’s very clear and looks really nice!! 😊
Hi Buddy How does works the Apex on ground? I have my ATMAX which is a great machine, but I like to buy the Apex because the feature Multiple frec. Salt.
was on full screen, at 15:03 saw an ant on the rock, ppphht thought an ant was crawling on my screen..lol. Likng the APEX so far that Ive seen, the viper coil seems pretty good.
My question...where do you find old maps like that? I'd love to find some old maps from the 1800's to see where structures were back then to help determine good places to seek permissions.
Did AT give you any indication of when they might be releasing their new machine or was the prototype just another machine in a long line of developmental models.
Being released in July and delivery in August from what I understand. It's a prototype for the testers to give feedback then Garrett will tweak the Apex based on their thoughts and create the finally product that gets released to the public.
Hey brad I love you’re videos. Ask Chris if he knows of St Johns college in Santa Fe . My wife , brother, mother , and myself went to St Johns. Again I love your videos and music. Good luck.

Hello Brad, what you define as a garter piece comes most probably from a corset. Tschuss.
That is exactly what I thought 👍😀
I agree...
Agreed. Pretty sure it's called a busk...or part of a busk. Tshussi.
Great everything : music, detecting, finds..., as always, thank you for this
Hi Brad, Hi Chris, enjoyed the hunt and finds. Not too bad for such a hot day. Great video. Happy first time back Chris, detecting Vermont. Thanks guys, Joyce. Connecticut 🇺🇸 ARROW *🎱
Great Finds! Good hunt with the new Apex
The wire thing I believe is a latch wire to a Mason jar or crockery
I wondered but what it was too small for a Mason jar, but something similar, but smaller, was used on top of soda bottle. Could that be what it is?
Probably a part of a bail cap bottle was my thinking also.
Another fun adventure. Your friend seems like a nice guy. Thanks again for sharing.
Great video looking forward to seeing more of the apex 👍👍
Great video! I so enjoy watching and learning from your channel. The little piece you were holding at the 15:34 mark appears to me to be the lock mechanism for a an old glass mason type jar lid.
Great vidio brad
Brad,
The small clip attached to the iron piece is called a corsett busk. Ive dug dozens of them. There would have been several of those clips attached to an iron strip that stiffened the back of a woman's lace up corsett.
Such a beautiful area. Enjoy all fresh air.
Cool video, nice new machine....Pareidolia alert @ 3:30....and evil troll face/suspender part...hahaha
Brad - you should consider going back to this place and detecting the old road you found. Those are always good places to detect! People dropped stuff as they traveled.
Thank you for the adventure and seeing some nice finds ! Take care , stay safe and healthy there in Vermont ! Doing well here in Kansas !
I agree with Marcia. That ring is a watering bit (snaffle). I learned so much by watching KC Steve . Learned a great deal from you also Brad. Awesome videos,Thanks You!

Thanks for taking us with you!!
Some days chickens, some days feathers... Loved your video anyway!
Brad & Chris.... ya found some things but it seems like not much was dropped in the day... except for things that broke off or was worn off... 2 Indian head Pennies gives that clue to the things being scarce. Yet there could be more under all that rocky ground.... and tough digging..! =)
Nice ! Thanks for the video.. did they let you keep the Apex? ..we need more videos and info on this md. thanks for posting ..
Any history saved is a great day of digging. Great video. Glad you were able to save some usable drone video before the crash. Lol did you only focus around the known building foundation and road? That was a long hot day of diggin. Thanks for sharing.
Another great hunt Brad, always nice when you find a fatty Indian Head penny. Thank you for bringing us along, keep up the great work.
Did not know about the rocks into powder. I learn things everytime I watch your videos. Thank you Brad!
Really Nice finds and Carrage step is in good shape!!!; )
I think it was a great hunt with two nice coins. The trunk handle is neat as well. I do enjoy your hunts.
Will be interesting to see your future testing of the Apex! You hunted an area like I normally hunt, farm fields! Good hunt!
Maybe the real treasure of the day was spending time with your bud. I wonder if the “garter” on iron was actually the back of a picture hanger?
Or maybe the top of a clip board?
My thoughts as well.
Good call on respecting the owners privacy guys.
A lot has to do with preventing vandalism and may not want to be incriminated regardless
He does this with almost all his finds, he gives most to the owners.
Brad do you have an album up anywhere? I'd love it if you just did a video/videos with just your songs, maybe over some of your drone footage/b-roll, you write lovely, relaxing, atmospheric stuff
You can check out Green Mountain Metal Detecting on Soundcloud. A majority of his music is there.😁
Some interesting finds you found in with all the iron. If you had the time to dig out the junk you could probably find more good things
Really cool finds today!! Can't wait for more 😁👍
Another great video!
Chris, greetings from Rio Rancho. Brad, I continue to share your You Tube channel when taking insurance claims with insures from your area.
Thanks for sharing your hunt and finds. I agree with the find of the day. Enjoyed watching, good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Great find guys love the new detector
Your garter clip looks more like a picture hanger. . Love your videos brother.

cool finds, but a better day for hanging out with chris thanks guys

Crazy. Finding America just found a similar oil lamp dial in his last video as well. Love the channel.
Nice finds👍
Hey brad, that bent wire with the good amount of patina looks like part of the clasp from on old mason jar
I think the clip piece that Chris found, that resembles a garter clip, is one of many clips along one side of a corset. The item you called a hitch ring may actually be half of a snaffle bit.
Marcia Posey I agree, that is what it looks like to me as well.
@@ryanjourney9607 my wife agrees with you too.
That's the first thing that I thought as well!
Garter strap possibly from an old fashion back brace or girdle maybe too. Interesting find!
Just wondering how the tick population is up there? They are numerous down here in the Virginia mountains this year.
They are bad in certain areas.

Its not really head to head though when you have two different people using them.
Still no answer lol

Been watching your vids for a few years. Passively. Recent changes have awakened the active watcher in me. Whatever you've done might be good for the channel.
Have the AT pro, and Ace 400......
Garret makes some awesome machines 👍👍👍
Looking forward to more Apex videos!
EARTH ANGEL ♥️. NICE HORSE HITCHING POST FIXTURE; WE HAVE ONE IDENTICAL TO IT IN FRONT OF OUR OWN HOME 🏡!!!👍🥰🐴
I've found a few suspender clips just like the second one shown. They usually have a pat. Date if it's not too worn. It's usually 1860s to 1870s which fits with the rest of the items found.

Nice finds.
compared to the at pro - would you buy this if u still have a working at pro? 🤔
Nice hunt, I like those Indian Head pennies
Brad,

Your local library, likely in the reference section would be a great start. That's how I found my regions older maps. 🤓

yay!! Enjoyed it!!!!
What happened with the Degrau adventure ? I think spelt the name right !
I was wondering the laws, written or not, because I have not yet worked another persons land, but do you have to share with the owner.
