I always click the “LIKE” button during the intro music without having seen your video! I am never disappointed! Great video Brad!
By the way since your videos have given me insight on knowing the difference between forged or cast iron, I have been able to identify a few of my finds and date them to the proper time period. The striation in the forged metal makes sense as the metal was heated and hammered repeatedly. I recently gave all my historical finds to a local historical society and the curator invited me to detect a dirt crawl space of the 1834 stone building in which they operate. Thanks!

We used to have a camper in up state NY. Black flys were bad there too. We used a product called Freshcab in the camper to help with the mice. We noticed it also helped with black flys and Mosquitoes. We could leave the camper door open and nothing would fly inside. The product comes in a bag like a tea bag. Its all natural. Strong smell.

AKA "sleigh bell", used mainly in snow, as the sound of the rig is absorbed by snow, the bells, worn in a variety of sizes for maximizing the frequency of sound, to the rhythm of the horses' gaits, report their presence to oncoming rigs. The rosette is the decorative piece which holds firm the broadband to the crown piece, at the sides of the head beneath the ears.

The pick you found is related to timber industry, its the off bearers pick to keep any small pieces of bark or pieces of wood from saw blades or planer blades , some have longer handles to allow safe removal for worker they had to be sharp pointed to stick the wood ! I have used one many times in the mills back in the 60's ! Great Video , Now I have to study the new detector you are using, as the older one I used for getting around nails was the 600b compass years ago , but only a few places I needed it !

And, from this Vermonter now living in South Florida, I speak from experience, when I say that Vermont's Mosquitos are only minor aggravations when compared to what we have to deal with along the "Mosquito Coast" of South Florida during our rainy season, which is about to begin. Thanks again.

The little button-like object with the hole in the center reminded me of the end of a lady's hatpin.
The bent tree at the beginning brings to mind an audio story I listened to on my way to Oregon a few weeks ago. I think you might like it. I took it on loan from the local library. It's a fictional piece based on fact and called "The Order". It's a hunt for Civil War gold that was buried throughout the south and gives insight as to the markers that were used to point the way to the buried pockets of gold. One such type of marker was bent or misshapen trees. Sometimes buried items pointed the way, such as the blade of a shovel.

That tiny cool spoon looks like the one my great grandmother always used as a sugar spoon ,in a very ornate cut glass vessel with a pewter top also very fancy and ornate ,and in the lid was a space for the spoon to fit through ,she used it for sugar for her teas ,witch she made herself from her property way up in the hills of West Virginia, way up ,we would always only drive so far and had to get out and walk another quarter mile ,we would always bring her a newspaper and staples like coffee, sugar, flower .stuff like that ,she had cows and chickens ,and her two twin brothers took care of the farm and made trips to town for items as needed,so cool ,that place is long gone ,I remember always just walking around the property picking up Indian arrow heads ,and the majority we would find around a small waterfall and pool ,such beautiful property 😎

Theory on the object at 9:33 in your video: it seems to resemble the top of a period scotch eye wood auger. Hardwood would be placed through the loop and cranked while the spiraled blade would have been attached to the stem below, ergo boring the hole in a log. These broke off periodically and just about in the right place with what you found. Could be, could be something else mentioned below. Fun find though.

At the 9:30 mark the iron relic you found that looks like a spike on the end is actually a candle holder there are several variety types the one you have would have been drove into a tree and a candle place in it for light. Some of the other types would have the spike and a bend in it so it could be placed in a tree or stuck into the ground as the elbow candle holders are more common to find around civil war camps that the soldiers utilized where as the type you have is colonial era and only had the one function. Once ran thru electrolysis and preserved they make beautiful relics I do believe you can find them in several books that pertain to early american iron relics.

That little "pick" looks to be a "pick axe" used to roll and pull logs!!! The log would have been in a pond, and they were used to straighten the log for a trip down stream or into a mill, I seem to think there is another name for it, but I can't quite bring it to mind, the darned meds cause brain farts!!!! Anyway that's what that is used for!!!

@@markmorris3579 Exactly right. I have one I use while cutting firewood. I whack it into the end of a piece of firewood and lift it up and put it under one arm and then whack it into another piece and lift it up off the ground and walk off with both pieces and never had to bend over to pick them up. Back saving tool for an old man. Have had one for years.

Brad, could the lead piece be a hem weight I'm not sure when they were used? As a blacksmith myself I think the iron ring and pick is a scythe nib. It would be fitted often with a brass collar and an iron washer over wood for the handle. Then peined or bent to hold it fast.
