I am aware of the poor focus and I apologize for this. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until the end, where I made the correction. Hope you can bare with it for this video
Found this video because I'm strongly considering doing this myself with Ally X when they come out. I have a similar monitor but i also have a Razer chroma egpu. Will be interesting. I might just actually do it.
Ally X and external GPUs will be a really good combo. Haven't tried it with my current Ally but that would be the final thing to make this setup even better. I still use this setup currently and I love it!
Nice video friend. Found you while looking for an example of ultrawide monitor + handheld desktop. Just bought my Ally X last week and I’m waiting for it to start this new setup. I use a Ultrawide 21:9 from Acer Nitro
My first venture into pc gaming was the Steam Deck, then I got the Rog Ally because it was more powerful, then I bought the 3080 XG Mobile because I wanted more power! Then I seen that Asus had bought Nuc and the gaming version is going to be north of $2000. I wanted it because I wanted more power! Then I said to myself if I'm going to spend $2K on a mini gaming pc with a laptop graphics card then I might as well look into building a full blown gaming rig that's more powerful. And that's what I've decided to do. I'm in the process of buying the parts for my gaming rig, the graphics card will be the last thing I buy as I am waiting on the 4090 to go on sale, budget $3000.
I am a big fan of the concept of using egpu but for the price I can’t justify it. At that point I’d just get a proper PC. And even without the egpu, I still find the Ally to be pretty good, especially for the money
A proper desktop pc will always be better. On the way the rog ally and the other handhelds are good for the sort trip. If you do not have enough money or do not need extra power for any work or triple A games then you can go with this as your standard.
Especially with the discounts the Ally is usually having, you can't really beat the price. It's a really good starting point and you also get the portability. Personally I haven't owned a PC in many years as I knew I wouldn't use it that much. But I'm really having fun with this experiment and it might change my mind 😄
are you saying this in regards to power? If so that goes without saying that a handheld cant be as powerful. I have a desktop more powerful than my ally and I dont use it more than the ally. So its not “Better” its just more powerful in my situation
i dont find it good enough without xgm, and the xgm is expensive, much rather buy other brand have oculink connection can use desktop class gpu hopefully they include oculink or at very least usb4 in incoming model
It's definitely expensive and hard to recommend paying that amount. But even standalone I really enjoy it. Not that powerful but enough to play most games, or at least to get the taste of it. I'm still going strong with this challenge and it's so much fun!
ally is trash im sorry. its better to do the same thing with legion go (coming from the guy who owns lego, sd oled and just returned ally back to best buy)
Well I can’t say the difference is that big between them and considering the discounts that the Ally is now having and also the portability (I find the Legion to be way too big), I tend to recommend the Ally more. But it’s just a personal preference in the end
I'd guess a big portion were people expecting a console-like experience in-line with SD. Ally X will be more than capable enough to function as a desktop for light work. I'm debating it for music production / portable gaming all in one. I'd love to hear why LegGo is better though. Care to elaborate? @@OleksiiK21

I'm thinking about this, it could not replace your desktop but it can definitely replace laptops.
To generalise things, that could be the answer, indeed. And I still think that for most, the ally is enough

Really happy you found me 😁. I still use the Ally with and ultrawide and I’m moving to a new studio and I will do the same. Love this setup!

Love reading your progress so far. With how this challenge goes, I might follow you 😅. As for a 4090 sale...I can only wish you good lucj
How’s it going so far? Still waiting?
@@battlepowered yeah still waiting, I was hoping the 5090 was going to come out this year and lower the price of the 4090 so I'm still waiting.
great video mate!
Thank you, mate. I appreciate it!
should have tested it with the egpu proprietary rog one

Now I wonder how I look like on Vision Pro 🤔. Now I’m even more upset for my poor focus at the beginning…

@armyofninjas9055 yeah? so for example why it's the most returnable item at Best Buy?😂
