      @@nollatfoodvibes I'll never forget, on a business trip to Rome with some colleagues (one of whom was Italian), because our direct Paris to Rome flight had been cancelled, we flew to Firenze and drove in a rented car (an Alfa Romeo, what else?) to Rome.
      About half-way, being hungry, we stopped in a motorway service station. The boutique was a true "Italian Delicatessen" shop, with curd ham hanging from the ceiling, a dozen or so brands of local olive oil, wine, etc. An absolute dreamland where we had the best snack ever.
      I just couldn't believe that such motorway service stations existed, that would sell anything else than the usual plastic-wrapped drairy industrial sandwiches and I regretted not having brought a big shopping bag to take some of those delicacies back home!
      Viva Italia!

      @@micade2518 ahahah of course it was an Alfa Romeo😂 believe it or not my dad always drove Peugeot! Anyway usually we hate those places (we call them Autogrill) because everything is overpriced but still, you can find some delicious stuff 😁

      @micade2518 Месяц назад

      @@nollatfoodvibes Sure, nobody likes the motorway service stations ... but to avoid them is getting very difficult.
      In France, we have (had?) wonderful resting/restauration places called "Routiers" that were privately owned small restaurants offering regional home-made cuisine.
      But they were alongside "National" roadways, much more bucolic but that have been "abandoned" by drivers in a rush who prefer to drive on highways: a sign of the times, alas!
      If you ever were to drive in France - and had the time, try to use the "routes nationales" and you might chance upon some remaining "routiers" that were even recommended in (some) tourist guides.
      Watch this (with approximate YT English subtitles): "Restaurants routiers : une tradition française en danger"

      A l'origine oui, d'où le nom, mais en vrai quasi partout c'est fait avec du poulet maintenant. C'est plus facile à trouver, c'est plus tendre, ça demande moins de cuisson et potentiellement moins fort en bouche donc ça passe mieux pour tout le monde. C'est même assez compliqué de trouver un resto où c'est encore fait avec du coq. Donc celui qu'il a mangé était probablement bien du poulet.

      My best coq au vin experience was actually on a flight from Singapore to Paris. We stopped in Bahrain and after Bahrain they served the dinner, even though it was about 3 a.m. Of course with jet lag it made no difference to me, and I will never know if it was the best coq au vin ever or if I was just ready to get a perfect French meal again after a couple of weeks in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. And yet we almost never eat coq au vin in Paris in the 21st century. I hope they still do in other regions.

    If the meat is different from chicken, it's because it's a rooster. Chicken is slaughtered at around 3 months old, whereas a rooster is slaughtered later, typically at 6 to 8 months or even older.
    This makes the meat darker, with a stronger flavor. That’s why it’s often slow-cooked, simmered gently over low heat for a long time (known as confit).

    Good cuisine, good food is a reflection of a way of life that we share wholeheartedly with our Italian brothers and, more distantly, our Chinese friends. So we must draw closer to one another and distance ourselves from the ignorant in this matter; they eat poorly and are bad and troubled in their souls.
