exactly. help me tell more people!
Which should actually be PPI, pixels per inch, because it’s an array of pixels, whereas DPI, dots per inch, is referring to regular printing, where the ink is applied as dots. 🤓

I mean, 8K is good either way! On a smaller screen you get more resolution, on a bigger screen you get the resolution of a small 4K display (guessing), but with a large build plate! :)
Pretty much,
However, if you go up to something like the mega 8k from phrozen, this is worse in resolution detail than the mini 4k
@@FauxHammer the mini 4K sucks. Mine can’t even keep the z axis from moving.
@@jvogler_art4708 which isn’t related to resolution, hope you’ll get some decent prints anyway. I don’t think I need more quality on my 4K printer tbh. Especially since I’m painting all the prints, at least that’s what I tell myself 😅 having a bigger plate would be nice though.
Still kinda unecesary either 4k, 8k
Im printing with a small cheap lcd printer and it can get great resolution because its part of the resing process. Printing with layer heights of 0.05 you can hardly miss anything at all. Theres also a thing called " design for 3d printing" which are basically guidelines for any 3dp tech eithe fdm, resin, sls, dmls etc. On top of that most people will simply paint them, all the micro detaills will be "erased" and become just a texture.

Having a micron pixel ratio would be a much more cohesive way to advertise these accurately
The bigger screen helps to fit more stuff on the bed while you print though. There are lots of figures and statues that require a larger screen.
true, but that's got nothing to do with it being 8k..
Found your list for best 👌 3d printers. Its very helpful.

I tried to explain this to someone on Facebook, but it totally went over their head lol .

Misleading title. You also immediately contradict this title seconds later by clarifying it.
What? On RUclips?!? We should tell someone!
Where's that 1080p printer and the 720p, is 144p just a gluegun?
Very informative. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
We have a term for this. DPI.
Also, I'd imagine layer step would be very important as well.
Well technically it’s PPI not DPI, but nobody uses this, they refer to a printers pixel size. Because it’s more relative to layer height and gives you a similar comparison metric
The other major consideration is light bleed. Even if you made a 20k screen at a small size, it still wouldn't be able to actually resolve that resolution.
This is where people need to understand that the printers us mere mortals buy are not SLA, they're MSLA. Masked Stereo Lithography. True SLA printers, the ones for industry use that cost many thousands, use lasers instead of a screen. The laser can actually get the light right onto the desired spot with little to know bleed, so they can resolve really high resolutions.
DLP printers are the middle ground here. They use a projector and mirror matrix to focus light allowing for pinpoint accuracy. The main issue holding them back is that Texas Instruments is essentially the sole manufacturer of mirror matrices. This means low production volume and high cost. The most common use of DLP setups right now is actually in movie projects, and this is where all of the higher resolution ones are being sent. This means that the only two enthusiast grade DLP printers are using 2k DLP mirror units. Hopefully we'll get a 4k or 8k unit in the future, as it is just a flat out superior technology to LCD, other than cost wise.
DLP and SLA also tend to be compatible with a wider array of materials than MSLA as they don't need to combat light bleed. Not having to worry about bleed means they can more fully cure any individual pixel, where cranking up the exposure time or intensity on an MSLA printer will increase bleed and result in a blurry image.
An 8k Printer will have more details than a same size one that's only 4k or 6k. 8k just means pixels relative to not just screen size but area also. Also 8k printers can print bigger prints with either same details or better than a smaller version of the same printer.
exactly, but people don't understand this generally and will compare a mini 8k to a mega 8k by phrozen and wonder why details aren't as sharp
so what one has more details? the mini 8k?

It's actually really cool clean prints
That's the reason why I got the Saturn 2 8k. I want a big build plate that can still get good quality.
man ive been trying to find something to print like small so ima try resin printers
It was suggested to use the voxel size in microns. It conforms to the printer settings that you use, and can be better used to gauge print resolution on any machine.
Yep, this video is very old now

8k printer means "large format printer with the DPI you've come to expect from common SLA printers"
Hmm, how wrong is this. let me break it down, and I'm doing this to help.
8k printer does not mean that at all.
8k printer only means the resolution is "7680 × 4320" or there abouts.
And are you suggesting that 8k means MSLA printers are on par with SLA printers? becasue they really aren't even close. Hardly anyone in the consumer space has ever even seen an SLA printer in the flesh, never mind use one.
SLA are printers using UV lasers, M-LSA is an LCD printer, like these 8k ones.
@@FauxHammer Don't be pedantic. I was using SLA colloquially, referring to MSLA. I am only talking about consumer/prosumer printers. I just meant that a larger resolution allows the printer to have a larger build volume at the same DPI, and therefore print quality. Whereas a 4K printer with a large build volume will suffer in print quality.
@@electriccomics but a larger format 8k screen will also suffer like that Jupiter, the Max and the Mega 8k
All are large 8k printers, but quality wise they are about as good as small 2k printers
Was that opie from SOA?
Just curious, i design on my computer, and the g-code is written on the computer. I can also change the polygon count in my design software and the accuracy. So why does the screen size and pixels or resolution mean anything to the actual print?
Sounds pretty relevant to me. I want better quality and resolution.
It’s just to inform people that 8k is not a direct measure of quality. You need to know the screen size too. So you should compare pixel size as a better metric.
I've been screaming this for so long... But people are stoopid
It’s a hard concept to get across
What's the current sweet spot for price Vs quality. The Saturn 2?
Yes! The XY quality of resin prints are already phenomenal and barely needs improving anyway, if anything we want better resolution on the Z axis to reduce the layer lines, can't say I've ever felt that the XY accuracy of my prints needed improving.
opie earns with the club. its all he knows

@miguellopez3392 no it doesn't happen to me..I think it is due to working in dim light
@@artguru1709 that is also a likely cause, i use warm lights and use a lot of backlighting to prevent eye strain.
ur medical bill also become 8k

It's great to discover that pixel density also matters when it comes to 3D printers. I'm accustomed to hearing about it in relation to tablets, phones, and monitors.
I Never thought about that :O
Thanks, it's why I made this video
3D printers convert a digital file on a computer into a physical, solid object. Most do this by depositing layer upon layer of plastic, metal or another material repeatedly, to build up the object. Charles ‘Chuck’ Hull pioneered early 3D printing in the 1980s. In 1987 he co-formed a company and launched the very first 3D printer - the SLA-1. 3D printing can produce complex, intricate products with perfect accuracy, from car and aircraft components to toys and even replacement human body parts. The process has also been adopted by many inventors to produce rapid prototypes of their inventions for testing.
So technically if your want large prints you definitely want a large screen with 12k+.
Ideally but the difference is minimal.
It’s more that if you have a large 8k printer. It’s not as detailed as a small 8k printer
Instructions unclear, smaller LCD installed

@FauxHammer I just bought a 4k, do you think there's a noticeable difference between 4k and 8k printers?
@@lintxlicker depends on the screen size...
"It doesn't mean anything, it only means you get more detail for a given screen area", or does it mean everything?
So it’ll is this why the phrozen sonic mini8k is at the top right now because it’s got a relitivly small 7 inch screen?
Exactly, only 22 micron pixels which is the finest quality around right now
Hey, was that homie from Sons of Anarchy????
Yep
When you just NEED to complain about something
Honestly, anything under 50 microns on xy is gonna be noticeable only for the sharpest of eyes. But even 12k printers are so cheap nowadays (Saturn 3 for 265 eur for example) that it doesnt really matter. And 12k for 10 inch screen is pretty great anyway.
Beautiful prints. If only resin wasn't such a mess to work with i would totally get one. Till i build a 3d printer area in the garage or heated shed i won't be getting one. Don't want to mess up my carpet or have resin around the children.
Yeah fair reasons. I’m glad I have a separate room for all this
Any recommendation for someone looking to start in resin printing for medium to large models for painting? Currently using my bambu p1s but I'm thinking resin might be better for human models ?
A 10 inch display at 8k resolution can give you smooth looking skin, I use a phrozen mighty 8k but there are cheaper options that print better, using beige colored resins will give the best base layer color to start with skin as they have the effect of subsurface scattering on thiner parts.
omg they literally just used a lower resolution photo of the same print to advertise the 8k printer
Back in the 80’s I upgraded my commodore64 with 8K of ram and it was awesome - so this 8K 3d printer must be great 🤪🤷♂️👍
I was showing a print off to a mechanical engineer at work and when he found out the print resolution was 50 microns, his eyes about popped out of his head.
Next week I should mention there are 20 micron printers available.
haha, well, you won't see much of a difference below 35
Hi, quick question
-What 3D printer do you prefere the most?
It's not a quick answer, i have to many to review to "enjoy" them, saying that... I do like the 10" 28.5 micron printers because of the quality and build plate balance.
I have a comparison vid coming out in 2 weeks
Any 3D RESIN printer should give you highly detailed, ultra smooth prints. Unless you prefer a rougher looking product then get yourself a FILAMENT printer. Your finished pieces are guaranteed to look like splintered, rough cut lumber milled with a dull chainsaw then fermented in an elephant's a**hole, everytime!

We already have a unit for communicating pixel size and is the pixel density, I don't agree that is in flicking inches, but ppp is way better than counting microns
ok, carry on doing that if you like, while the whole resin printer industry uses Pixel Size.

Really wish they'd just lead with PPI instead of resolution in the first place.
How would you make a large print? Slice it and do it in sections? Curiouse if resin printers can connect pieces.
You design the object to be produced in parts to be fabricated however is appropriate to its use.
