A Gordon Lightfoot classic. "He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He is often referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter and is known internationally as a folk-rock legend."
Always loved the Kingston Trio! Beautiful harmonies! I remember out late one night with my dad and hearing them singing Tom Dooley. It was being played everywhere in those days. But back then we only had AM. You would get a song you wanted to hear and inevitability it would fade out!! Ha ha ha ! Those were great days!
Thanks for this Kingston Trio rendition of this song. I'm a school crossing guard and I usually hum this tune (along with some of the lyrics) when I'm standing duty outside on a rainy morning. Now I can listen to it more and learn all the lyrics.
Bob W Excellent! This is my absolute favorite version of "Early Morning Rain", but have to admit I am a little bias being such a fan of these boys ;-). Check out my channel for a recent video made of a previously-unreleased Bob Shane solo...another gem!!
Nikki Sherwin I too am a big fan of the Kingston Trio from way back when they sang on radio in '50s & 60s. Saw one of their last concerts when I was in San Diego in the Navy. Loved singing with them and so many of my favorites. I've got five of their albums, three of their "Best of...". They were just great to sing along with when I traveled.
+tenniscollector That makes me so incredibly happy you are listening to John. Because he never "made it", I am glad someone is out there still discovering his music. You have a great day and keep 'digging'! The best stuff is not usually the standards - I can't STAND Tom Dooley! ;-)
Nikki, thanks for posting this. Love all the pictures you've amassed here. It's a wonderful video and I always loved this rendition of the song from their "Something Else" album. Nick, Bob, and John, a great combination.
Saw GL in Tallahassee FL years ago. He started a major hit and muffed it and stopped and started it completely over. The crowd loved it. I loved KT as a sixth grader, especially "Tom Dooley."
My dad had a ton of Trio records around when I was young. Want to learn how to sing harmony? There's not a lot that will do it like sixties folk music.
Great clips of my favorite band of all time. You know: I always wondered what the Beatles and Stones thought of the Kingston Trio. Before the arrival of the Beatles in the USA, the KT were extremely popular with their records selling millions. Did the Beatles like their music? Did they listen to their recordings?
Hello. I am a Kingston Trio fan as well. I cannot seem to find this recording of Early Morning Rain on iTunes, Spotify, RUclips, or anywhere else online. I was wondering where you got the song or if you have the CD. I was also wondering if this is the full version of the song, and if not, is there a place online I could get it or should I buy the disk?
booked the Trio in 1997 and 1988 they were the best and still are
They were really good. We saw them three times.
The Kingston Trio may be gone but they’re not forgotten.
You're right.
Terrific group! 😎
The Trio - the best always. My favorite version. Thanks.

There's also Joanie from SK and Neil from MB -- both Canadian folk-rock legends.
Not only Canada

LOVE THEM!!!
RIP all three. The last original KT member past yesteday, 28Jan2020.
That hurts.
Best trio

+tenniscollector Nah, neither have solid voice like my boys. Don't think of it as too fast -- listen to the Trio's ENERGY!
+Kingston Chick I looked at your videos and would love to check them out! I love Roy Orbison!!

Then, you'll never be A Worried Man.
Dylan documentary on Dylan's folk years reminded me of the trio, and it's nice to have a nice audio of this tune.
Gary Hunter Welcome! Enjoy to your hearts content

Love this, got lots of KT vinyl. My favorite version of this song is by Elvis Presley, ran across it on YT a few years ago.
I have all the Capitol and Decca vinyls.😎

I sure did! 😎
Awesome. Thanks!!
Check out the outstanding Foxes and Fossils version of this song.
And their incredible version of "Don't worry Baby" and every other incredible thing they cover.

Decca Records-- last 4.😮
Can barely hear Nick Reynolds ! Probably this is a stereo recording but one channel is missing.
It was like that way back when I bought the record in mono. Never could figure out why.
The missing channel is here with Nick Reynolds! Perfect now !Thanks.
