Unfortunately, when guys go at one another without approving the material upfront, you could end up with a brawl out situation. Or a Sunny Days altercation. Luckily Rock and Cena kept it together.
Oh no! You mean like an actual fucking locker room?! That's what wrestling was, you clown. Most guys had the professionalism to keep it together, but if it did result in legitimate friction, it worked out for the better.

1) Alex Riley was an earlier example of WWE needing to change shit for no reason. His whole "Varsity Villain" gimmick was, then, close to what early MJF was before MJF was a thing. And it was working. But it was his own gimmick. So, of course, they had to fuck with it and make him a generic Randy Orton with his "Riley Rage" or whatever. And, like everyone else, that not working was somehow his fault. 2) "The Awesome Truth" tag team was something that needed to be seen in context. It was bigger in the moment than it sounds in hindsight. Also, it makes me think on one of Punk's criticisms on what was going on backstage at the time: "If ratings are down, it's because Cena's not there. If Cena *is* there, and ratings are still down, it's _somehow_ the fault of Miz and R-Truth." (as opposed to the week to week product just being weak). 3) the best zinger in that whole Rock/Cena feud is Cena pulling out the "I Bring It... Via Satellite" shirt.
R-Truth was back at peak during that time. Heel R-Truth was the best of him. And Corny, we know you hate the New Day, but re: Fruity Pebbles...New Day got their OWN cereal from a catchphrase. That's above being endorsed for an existing cereal.
It’s amazing how so much has changed over the last decade. Yes, Miz was the top heel in 2011. Adding R-Truth to it made him a bigger heel in the fall of that year. Because of Wrestlemania 28, April 1st, 2012 is a day I will never forget.
The first go with Cena and Rock was great. The promos were hot and the match was much better than most expected. The 2nd run? Not so much. Rock got out at the right time. I just remember his promos really started to show some age around that time. It was the first time Rock ever felt old to me. Then they had a poor match. Cena went over. People booed the hell out of it. Not good. They should have left it alone.
The promos in this feud were gold but the actual matches were pretty terrible. The Rock was so jacked up at that point that he clearly couldn't move around the same way anymore lol. I'm pretty sure he got injured in one of those matches as well.
Miz main eventing WrestleMania made me happy then and still does. Lmfao must piss off CM Punk to no end 😂😂. AND he beat John Cena! Best fan scenario ever 🤣
Guess Jim doesn't realize this is the big thing that made his bestie Punk mad enough to quit WWE. Punk believes they should have either booked him in the match with Cena at Mania instead of The Rock, and/or that somehow he should have been the main event instead of these two, such as Punk vs. Daniel Bryan. I wonder if Jim's opinion of Punk would change if he knew that? It's an example of how ridiculous and delusional Mr. Brooks really is.
Punk Vs Austin could’ve held the people and took them on a ride just like Cena Vs Rock but I don’t think no other 2 could’ve at the time.... yes Cena got the fruity pebbles endorsement after the rocks insult. He was calling him fruity pebbles cause Cena would come out with a new colored shirt every other month
Rock wrote the notes on his wrist deliberately so Cena can diss him with it. Cena was getting destroyed by The Rock and WWE didn’t want it to be 1 sided
Not really no, considering Cena didn't even notice that, he was told by Miz not the management. What exactly did Rock say that was destroying Cena? The best line he had was the "Fruity pebbles" one which paled in comparison to what Cena was dishing out.
The fact the company talked anyone back to WrestleMania after the awful card that was Mania 27 is a small miracle. I remember having a watch party with my closest friends. I've never been more embarrassed to be a wrestling fan.
To be fair, while R-Truth had abandoned being Ron Killings at that point and became a full on cartoon character, he was still a serious cartoon character, by WWE standards then. Had he actually beaten Cena, WWE might have had another star there. But of course he lost and got shoved down the card, like 99% of everyone who challenged Hulk Hog...I mean John Cena, as if challenging Cena for the belt once was the highlight of his career and there was nothing else to do with him afterwards. Truth ran into that AND the standard six months now lets play with the shiny new toy, like Ron Simmons squared.
And if you’re a fan of Jeff hardy then you’ll be even more excited because Freddie was the main (and pretty much only one) that was pulling for Jeff to win the wwe title in 2008.
Was a big fan of this feud. Cena roasting him for writing his promo on his hand. The return of rapper Cena returning for one night. The first match was great but they did it again but it wasn't as good imo.
18:30 it could have been a 3 way elimination and still had the Frazier Ali feel after both the big bad ken dolls team up to screw punk. Giving him an out and ammunition on the promo.
I was for Cena on that feud because The Rock is such a kiss ass when the fans like him. I like when The Rock is pissed and a asshole that's when he is cool .
2011 was a weird yet eventful year for WWE "Summer of Punk" & Bryan's rise to stardom. It definitely had one of the worst WrestleMania events ever. It's also the same year Edge retired, Triple H became the "COO", the height of Michael Cole's heel run & time as #1 chief Miz fanboy, the end of the Nexus stable, Kevin Nash returning, Michelle McCool's retirement, A lengthy Jerry Lawler/Michael Cole feud, "Tough Enough" returning, Kane returned with long hair and another half-mask, & Laurinaitis becoming a tv heel authority figure are amongst the other crazy things from 2011. Miz & R Truth were booked as being 2 of the top heels in the company(the other main heels being Del Rio and Mark Henry) & formed a tag-team due to their shared hate of Cena. Miz & R-Truth as a team was serious enough to the point where there was an angle where Miz & Truth were arrested for assaulting officials, talent & trespassing during a Hell In A Cell triple threat title match after they were "fired" by Triple H on an earlier Raw show. Of course, they ultimately broke up as a team not long after the Survivor Series loss to Rock & Cena. Also, someone should read the Wrestlemania 27 match to Cornette. Would love to hear his reaction to Lawler vs Michael Cole w/Swagger, Snooki being involved in a match, & Kane in an 8 man tag team with Santino of all people.
20:25, if Gargano was seven when the rock and Cena were feuding then he would have been a one year old when he got squashed by MVP on Smackdown in 2007🤣🤣🤣
I ended up disliking this feud. it buried the title. Cena having a so called tough time while just winning all his matches. i tuned out for a while after this feud.
This feud happened at the height of the Dave Meltzer hoard of online wrestling fans. A generation of fans that grew up on the internet where programmed to always look for a bitch or gripe. No matter how good the card or match was fans where programed to find something to gripe about. Then as Jim calls them the, "smart fans" the offspring of a, "as reported by Dave Meltzer" generation got their what they wanted. they got their promotion with AEW where the inmates ran the asylum with a billionaire budget. This is no AEW bash, but AEW has not been the 5 star endless Iron Man matches with new talent emerging. It seems that some of these, "smart fans" that where programmed to itch, moan, and complain about everything have chilled a bit over the past few years.

Miz & Truth were pretty hot heels at the time. I know it seems preposterous now but it worked back then
R-Truth was back at peak during that time. Heel R-Truth was the best of him.
And Corny, we know you hate the New Day, but re: Fruity Pebbles...New Day got their OWN cereal from a catchphrase. That's above being endorsed for an existing cereal.
Remember when he asked someone in the audience for a cigarette? And smoked mid match? Was cool as hell
That cereal thats basically made by wwe
It’s amazing how so much has changed over the last decade. Yes, Miz was the top heel in 2011. Adding R-Truth to it made him a bigger heel in the fall of that year. Because of Wrestlemania 28, April 1st, 2012 is a day I will never forget.
I miss serious R-Truth

This cover art maybe my fav of alltime!!! What a talent he is. I need a illustrated book with the best of these!
😂
I love the Great Cornzoo😂
I've been screen shotting and printing these in grey scale for my 6yo daughter to colour. She absolutely loves them.
Actually r truth as a heel and miz as a heel drew more ratings than the summer of punk reign period. Hence why it was miz and truth vs John and rock.
The matches sucked cause rock was so steroided out he couldn't go a minute without tearing something.
Probably had to cut out all of Lawler’s legal issues
My third favorite era of The Rock (first being Hollywood Heel in 2003, second being the corporate champion after Survivor Series 98).
I loved corporate and Hollywood rock
Ya know, I can't remember a single time ever seeing The Rock come off the top rope in his entire career. That says alot.
Early on he did a cross body off the top
Just when he first came in and had that weird haircut, he did a cross body. That's all I remember him doing off the top rope.
And you notice he never did it again after that!
@JTG he actually came off the top rope in the 2nd match of this fued. Just watched it. Lol. Other then that tho, never again! 😆
Their first match is still the single highest grossing pay-per-view in wrestling history
Source?
Because of the rock
Disagree with Jim that MJF never had someone to joust with on the mic like Rock/Cena. Guy called CM Punk comes to mind.
The promos in this feud were gold but the actual matches were pretty terrible. The Rock was so jacked up at that point that he clearly couldn't move around the same way anymore lol. I'm pretty sure he got injured in one of those matches as well.
What confused me is you had cody back . Who was there at the time and close to cena . So why didn't they ask for cody to talk in the gargano part.
This feud was fine to me, but I wish it hadn't been done in the PG era, these guys could have really cut loose verbally.
Pg sucks I'm gonna kick your butt I haven't never said that in my life lol
“It doesn’t take a lot of his gravy to go over my plate.”
Cornette’s opinions on Gargano could be a 5 hour show 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wasn't there an episode when wrestlers boycotted RAW because of unsafe working environment? Brought about by Truth and Miz of all people!
You should listen to Bryan & Vinny's review of it, here on RUclips.
Miz main eventing WrestleMania made me happy then and still does. Lmfao must piss off CM Punk to no end 😂😂. AND he beat John Cena! Best fan scenario ever 🤣
Haven’t seen the doc yet but the ECW crowd at One Night Stand 2006 chanted “fruity pebbles” at Cena
Cena's bald spot on the thumbnail 😂
Don’t know which main event match is more overrated or polarizing: HBK vs Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 12 or Cena vs Rock at Wrestlemania 28
“ONCE IN A LIFETIME… but we made so much money from it here it is again next year”
His morning Russo!😂😂😂
The Jim Cornette vs. former sponsor Magic Spoon feud continues
Jerry Lawler's is only an hour because you can only stand in line for popcorn and take a bathroom break for so long.
The rock doing the Boston tea party about Cena is one of the best promos. And awesome truth (miz and R-truth) was a good tag team.
The Awesome Truth were over.
They shoulda done a highlight of Cena vs RVD at One Night Stand instead. Still one of my favorite moments in wrestling.
Cena vs Rock did MUCH bigger business though. It makes sense why this would get a highlight special
@@juansanchez209 Obviously, I'm being a dick because I never liked Cena.
That picture killed me 😅
Guess Jim doesn't realize this is the big thing that made his bestie Punk mad enough to quit WWE.
Exactly Bro 😂
Wasn't Freddie Prinze Jr. a writer during that time? He's been a lot more vocal about his role in the company the last few years
"and as we see now, they have gotten over it"
I haven't. I never flip-flopped on that. Cena sucks and he was never good.
Ricky Starks can hang with MJF on the mic. Let’s not act like MJF is on an island by himself in AEW when it comes to promo work.
The era of WWE they speak of was where I stopped watching.
Some Fruity Pebbles Sound Good Right Now
Just had some. Some things are meant to be
Punk Vs Austin could’ve held the people and took them on a ride just like Cena Vs Rock but I don’t think no other 2 could’ve at the time.... yes Cena got the fruity pebbles endorsement after the rocks insult. He was calling him fruity pebbles cause Cena would come out with a new colored shirt every other month
Truth was over in 2011
Imagine if Rock never turned heel and they just doubled down on babyface Rocky Mavia until it worked 😂😂😂
That's Cena going all the way with it like they tried to do again with reigns
It's ironic for Last to say Gerwitz latched onto The Rock 🤔
This was cena’s biggest money match but Cena vs Edge was his best feud
Rock wrote the notes on his wrist deliberately so Cena can diss him with it. Cena was getting destroyed by The Rock and WWE didn’t want it to be 1 sided
Lmao yeah because you worked at WWE at the time to know that. What a bozo
Not really no, considering Cena didn't even notice that, he was told by Miz not the management. What exactly did Rock say that was destroying Cena? The best line he had was the "Fruity pebbles" one which paled in comparison to what Cena was dishing out.
All the rock did was crack the same old jokes
No when rock said Cena was barny dinosaurs love child that was funny Cena had his bright purple shirt on
No when rock said Cena was barny dinosaurs love child that was funny Cena had his bright purple shirt on
Miz and Truth were actually a team to be reckoned with at the time. They weren't doing comedy
99% of the roster walked out of RAW because of Miz and Truth _causing_ an unsafe working environment. It's nuts!
Yet the Audience at home wasn't taking them serious and why they lost even more viewers.
Weren't doing comedy my ass
MJF got Ricky Starks if they actually book Ricky correct
I had no problem with Rock vs Cena but the WWE title didn't need to be involved in it.
The fact the company talked anyone back to WrestleMania after the awful card that was Mania 27 is a small miracle.
I remember having a watch party with my closest friends. I've never been more embarrassed to be a wrestling fan.
Wrestlemania 27 will always hold a special place in my heart. I watched it when was young so I still thought wrestling was real. It was magical.
Same
Damn you make me feel old lol
To be fair, while R-Truth had abandoned being Ron Killings at that point and became a full on cartoon character, he was still a serious cartoon character, by WWE standards then. Had he actually beaten Cena, WWE might have had another star there. But of course he lost and got shoved down the card, like 99% of everyone who challenged Hulk Hog...I mean John Cena, as if challenging Cena for the belt once was the highlight of his career and there was nothing else to do with him afterwards. Truth ran into that AND the standard six months now lets play with the shiny new toy, like Ron Simmons squared.
Haha the magic spoon burn
When I figured out freddie was a wrestling fan I was hyped. Even more exciting to know he was a writer during one of my favorite times
And if you’re a fan of Jeff hardy then you’ll be even more excited because Freddie was the main (and pretty much only one) that was pulling for Jeff to win the wwe title in 2008.
@@d.52555 love hearing that. I honestly wish Freddie was bigger in the wrestling scene or Hollywood today. Seems like a such a genuine dude
I liked Awesome Truth. It was the last time R Truth was worth a damn. He's been a comedy act ever since
Cena is and always has been the shits, Jim only sucks up to him because he was in OVW.
Jiim is right, we watched this episode and the Austin vs Rock together and he ask me why was the WWE so much better back then.
Truth and Miz as a heel team that went freaking nuts was over.
Especially Truth
I guess Magic Spoon is no longer a sponsor 😆😂. ANOTHER knock on Magic Spoon lol.
The one with Jerry Lawler, according to guide says Paige/Saraya
Lawler DEFINITELY deserved TWO HOURS!
Rock winning the first match was still the biggest mistake they could’ve made for John Cena’s career.
This is what's missing. Guys can't be trusted to do promo work. Or don't have the skill. Rock/Cena was masterful. We have to believe it
R truth and John Morrison were big time over in this era.
20:25, if Gargano was seven when the rock and Cena were feuding then he would have been a one year old when he got squashed by MVP on Smackdown in 2007🤣🤣🤣
Awesome Truth was a good heel tag team. Heel Truth w no them and the deranged look was 🔥
I ended up disliking this feud. it buried the title. Cena having a so called tough time while just winning all his matches. i tuned out for a while after this feud.
Contrived rivals because everyone good in the business at that time has already left.
Rock vs Cena watch along?👀👀👀
It was weird that for about a year, John Cena and the Rock called each other gay on live tv
