We moved here about 8 years ago as well... from the Bay area where people drive like maniacs. Generally I love this beautiful place and the people here are wonderful, kind and welcoming. I find that the worst are are some of the giant trucks that bully their way around on the narrow roads certainly not all of them of course, but a few. Also those bike lanes that cross over the roads in the middle of the streets are dangerous. I have no idea who thought that up. Then there is the poor lighting at night. I hope that eventually, this will change. Glad we have lyft and uber.
I love Bend, but avoid the violent Republicans. I had a guy ram my truck (completely out of the blue) on the parkway for having a progressive sticker on my vehicle. Lapine, DRW, Redmond, etc. are downright scary. @@NoraLovesBendHomes
@@willtwain1383itʼs hard to know whoʼs who and I would certainly avoid putting a political sticker on my car or in front of my house. Driving in the Bay area was worse, but you did not have to fear it being discovered that you might be a progressive person.
Glad I got to enjoy it back in the 70-80's. The only mistake was not buying at that time. Mill town company housing shacks for $20k. Now it's like all the others; over built, smokey, over crowded, traffic jammed, over priced, boutique ice cream tourist trap w/o any affordable housing for its service workers.

Now it is unaffordable for people like me because it is full of billionaires. It is an artsy town but the artists cannot afford to actually live there, unless they bought a house a long time ago. I also lived for years in Santa Rosa, CA. where a fire burned 40 acres to the ground. I am a working class artist & cannot afford to live there any more. I think this GO AWAY attitude towards newcomers is mean and thoughtless. Do you ever think that you might like some of us if you met us? Everyone in this country came from somewhere else...probably even yours.

There are many extremely angry right-wingers in Deschutes County. Bend is progressive, great, itself. But, the surrounding area is MAGA.

Everybody I have met in person here in Bend has been wonderfully kind. Just really good people🥰
