@@ultimavioletb1599 I remember how got to this level, and then my save file became corrupt, I thought that was the last level, and I was so depressed about almost beating the game and losing it all.
Pfft. I was six when I bought this game so I asked my big bro to finish the knight for me because I was too scared. Coincidentally his name is Olli too.
@@InsidiousOne It's the jump in difficulty which catches us all off guard, and yes there was a jump in difficulty entering this level. If you didn't feel it it's probably because you were already used to these types of games. However for other people including myself this was our first platformer.
@@Anidem9 Yes, the difficulty jump is indeed present, but it's still far from the "absurd nightmare". The only really tough ape is the one in the gear room, but, as far as I remember, it's not essential to catch her the first time you're entering this level.
Everything about this level gave a real creepy vibe The music, the massiveness, the environment, and each time you catch a monkey you see the menacing specter emblem pop up on the bottom corner of the screen kind of as a way of saying “remember why you’re here” lol it was awesome wish i could go back and play it for the first time again
When you were still in the castle grounds and you look up to that huge, dark, towering castle in the distance... and this glorious music plays. *bliss*
oh god... the feels I got when I first went into this stage.. and then when I got to the MINI boss (I was like 8 and loved medieval stuff)I freaked out because i loved it so much... and then i got to the actual stage boss and in my head I went "HOLY SHIT THERE ARE BOSSED AND ITS A GIANT FUCKING KNIGHT"
@@kirbyoshi6717 Ik. This was my old account, lol. I hadn't realised it had already been ten months since I first played ape escape. Time flies by, I guess
This works as background music for any castle level in games. Seriously, try it 😃 My favorite is probably any of the bowsers castle levels from mario kart
Ape escape 2 kinda disappoints me in terms of mini games but still I love the monkeys dancing to drums and then the judges give u a fucked up score and then it's humiliation and u laugh that the monkey failed to get a good score lmaoo
This is my favorite level of the whole game. I remember I was really stubborn trying to figure out how to open the metal box that has a monkey inside, but I enjoyed the music a lot so I didn't mind spending a long time there :)
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, I'm listening to the whole OST and suddenly this track hits me and reminds me of Megaman Juno's music, which was Bach's Little Fugue. Call me crazy, but the melody is that SAME song, right? I could be horribly wrong, but I can't unhear it as a heavily remixed version of Little Fugue.
sledgehog1 I've often wondered that, myself. Wouldn't be surprised--I know for sure that Ape Escape 3 has a few tracks that covered some classical pieces, but I can't say the same for this one.
Who else is here because they're replaying this game on PS4/PS5 in 2022? Also, unsurprisingly, this track slaps exactly as hard as I remember it from 20ish years ago 🤘😤🤘
I’m so tempted to buy the game right now! Came back to listen to the tracks as I enjoyed them playing in my childhood and it’s been magical. This game is a true gem.
@@tokiomiller9896 Just got the platinum trophy today. It's definitely a dated experience (like most early 3D platformers) but the nostalgia prevents any lasting frustration.
Great theme and great stage with a medival setting plus memorable Knight boss love it. Well, last stage for past stuff before back to present and more 😁.
I didnt have a ps1 memory card on my ps2 so I had to play through the game all in one sitting. Whenever I got to this level I thought it was the last level! Until I beat it, that is lol (also that knight gave me so much dread)
the first time I heard this song as a kid in their tweens.....I knew this Soundtrack was top notch, playstation had lots of classics, if im not listening to Crash, im listening to this!
I remember throwing g my controller against the wall as this dark melody played in the background. My mom was fucking pissed cause I chipped the paint.
Anyone loved sneaking to those monkeys in the bottom floor and inside I swear u had to catch like 10 monkeys before u had to get to black knight boss and if u were fast and used the hula hoop u could dodge and hurt his shield
The Crumbling Castle music is absolutely Pure Torture to the ears and senses! It's like a never ending nightmare that just keeps getting worse and worse. The only thing worse than the music itself is the fact that it's always playing in the background, haunting you with its presence. It's like a constant reminder of how terrible life can be, and it just makes you want to give up on everything. I can't even begin to imagine how someone could find this music enjoyable, let alone listen to it on a regular basis. It's just pure, unadulterated torture.
"Catch Specter"
This was when you KNEW that shit was getting real
@@ultimavioletb1599 I remember how got to this level, and then my save file became corrupt, I thought that was the last level, and I was so depressed about almost beating the game and losing it all.
Got goosebumps seeing that the first time
Specter: LoL, nope! Catch these knight hands.
Spike teleports in "Let's go!!"
This level invented "it just got real"
Couldn't have phrased it better myself.
The song, the intensity of the plat forming. Was insane.
As a kid playing this this stage felt absolutely MASSIVE, like a whole new world opened up
And then came Spectre Land :') Absolutely awesome game!
+Stonezorz Same here!
Agree i love this stage so much and u think this is it. But, nope....and till u reach the amusement park stage one now thats even more epic o o.

Knight-san was the scariest bastard in my gaming career at the time.

I used to leave this level on while doing my primary school homework just to have this as background music. It still gives me the chills today.
What an amazing idea you had :3
One of the greatest tracks to any platforming stage in history.
We need a remastered version of the original!
Fantasyze I second that! We need remasters for all of them.
increase overall graphics. keep the colour tones, soundtrack everything
@@Gnrcdss pretty much
I would buy a remastered collection of all three games in a heart beat.
Well, there is the original Ape Escape out now digitally for PS4/PS5, same game but with sharper imagery, trophies, rewind, save states, etc. :)
It’s been almost 20 years and this song is still exactly the way I remember it.
Same! That means it's memorable!
I remember the long hours I spend here. I just couldn't figure it out. It seemed endless. I got stuck on that level for days.
Hah! I’ve got you beat. Over a month, and that is because my parents didn’t understand that no memory card meant no continuing where I left off.
Same with my brother. So difficult

I'm sorry to my neighbors who had to put up with me playing this stage at high volume.
Lol it surely worthed it
i originally thought this was the final level because the level and music was so epic and huge and tough
im glad i was mistaken
I think this was my favorite soundtrack from the game when I was younger. I used to pause the game and listen to it.

I loved absolutely every song from this game.
R.I.P Japan Studio (SIE)

I used to be terrified of this level because of the soundtrack and the maze like level design. Felt like I was loosing my mind.

This was my absolute FAVORITE game as a kid, so when Ape Escape 2 came out, I was like: HOLY CRAP YES YES

It's fugal but I don't think it's Bach's Little in G Minor.
I think it's more of a pastiche. While it's not the same song, it is definitely aping the stylings of "Little" Fugue in G Minor, pun not intended.
This theme seems to have some resemblance to classical music. Reminiscent of baroque pieces, somewhat...

I remember this level having OOB spots you can trigger even during casual playthrough. Especially the aqueducts / basement.
