Gil is part of the new media-he know his market is younger and he can't keep viewer's if he's talking about his era or old so he has to pump up the new era. I wouldn't doubt if a lot of these guys are paid for by Klutch Sports who seem to have gotten the same memo, because they have the same exact tactics to boost anything related to LeBron while continually ..not just downplay, but DEVALUE anything Jordan related including the man himself. I really wish Kobe were still around because i feel like it got way out of hand after he passed. Kobe was a real historian and paid respect and homage to the OG's. These guys are all disrespecting the game on ridiculous levels. Kobe was more in the media unlike MJ, so the young guys respect Kobe and would have listened to Kobe's takes and responses to the inevitable questions and readjusted their thought process IMO.
It's really sad, you even have Kobe era guys being fooled by it. I just had a vacation where i discussed ball with a rando 33 year old at the bar. Kobe is his GOAT. Okay. Lakers jersey on. Kobe shoes on. Kobe guys are passionate. But then he said, "Not gonna lie, if Lebron gets another one he has to be over Kobe and i hate LeBron." I go whhhhat? Where is Jordan?!? And he was so dismissive and almost didn't want to answer but eventually said "i can put Jordan at 3" but almost as if it was a struggle for him to do that like he wanted to put someone else at 3. I just laughed and immediately thought of new media all in his head. It's subjective, i get that, but my goodness how times have changed.

Perfect breakdown. When my friend showed me that clip when it first dropped, I went straight to the numbers and it’s an easy dunk to prove it false. Also, the physical defense wasn’t about fouling as much as the refs respecting the defense’s right to occupy space on the court. They held and were allowed to by the officials to own their established position and that created most contact. Nowadays, offenses are rewarded for creating contact and that right to space is denied by the refs every time.

Can't combine the 80s to the 90s as if they're equal. Scoring in the 80s was more comparable than today's scoring than the 90s. There were actually legit and frequent complaints about the quality of 90s ball as compared to the 80s.
