    This is a temporary release, if the scm is tight(reason her head keeps moving up)overstretching the hyoid muscles, also which makes the masseter constantly active. Making the two muscles play tug of war. reason ppl wear mouth guards and still have this issue is because the ant. Cervical muscles aren't released. I've seen countless of chiropractors due a adjustment and by the time they walked to the door the muscles have went back to there normal(dysfunctional) position.

    • @elitechiroperformance
      @elitechiroperformance  3 года назад

      In my opinion, most manual treatment are temporary "fixes". The scalenes and SCM were also treated but it wasn't included due to the premise of the video.

    • @BlkMykk
      @BlkMykk 3 года назад

      @@elitechiroperformance I totally agree with your opinion. I think the hardest part is getting the clients to do the home maintenance or muscle retraining exercises faithfully. To make it permanent instead of temporary. Most think after a few weeks or months of doing is going to be enough when there daily tasks can put them back in that dysfunctional position.

      I am sorry to hear that. My advice would be to get the jaw looked at. Your dentist may be an easy start. Less severe/complicated cases can be managed conservatively with Chiro/PT. More severe cases may need a specialist referral.

    • @elitechiroperformance
      @elitechiroperformance  4 года назад +4

      I would focus on diaphragm breathing first. You can use things like meditation to work on controlling the tension throughout the body.
      The clicking is usually the disc in the TMJ moving around. There are exercises that can help teach you how to open the jaw more efficiently. Search for "suprahyoid exercises". I would also visit somebody that specializes with TMJ management and can work with your dentist if you are having pain. I hope that helps.

    Have you had a patient that hears popping in clicking in their ear rather then from their jaw? My physician said I had tmj.

    • @elitechiroperformance
      @elitechiroperformance  4 года назад +2

      Yes, the TMJ sits directly in front of the ear opening so the popping of the joint can be felt/heard in the ear. You can palpate the TMJ by sticking your fingers in your ears and then open/close your jaw.

    Can a chiropractors help if I have jaw arthritis? I've been dealing with persistent facial jaw neck and upper back pain since February. I also have popping and clicking mainly on the left side. How should I treat it?

    • @elitechiroperformance
      @elitechiroperformance  4 года назад +2

      The typical answer is "it depends". A chiropractor that incorporates manual treatment to the soft tissue and TMJ as well as exercise can help improve function and decrease pain. It is also crucial to identify any habits that may be making your symptoms worse such as jaw clenching/grinding, gum chewing, etc. It is worth getting checked out by a qualified professional. Let us know if we can find somebody for you nearby.

      @@elitechiroperformance doesn't spinal adjustments help with TMJ and jaw arthritis?

    • @elitechiroperformance
      @elitechiroperformance  4 года назад

      We're not aware of any studies that say adjustments or joint manipulation can help with TMJ arthritis. I am typically not a fan of adjusting the TMJ but rather using gentle mobilization. I would use the manipulation in other areas like the cervical and thoracic spine to help aid in the overall treatment approach.

    • @elitechiroperformance

      I would definitely get it checked out by a professional especially if there is some instability going on. Easy things for you to do would be to work on diaphragm breathing and anti-clenching habits. We often will give our patients little stickers to place on various things that they look at throughout the day. The stickers are there to remind that to control tension in their jaw and neck.

      Hey Sean,
      Good question. It sounds like there may be some instability going on. Treatments, like the one shown in the video, may not be the best option. There are other ways to work on the soft tissue around the jaw but I recommend an approach that focuses on proper jaw mechanics and strength. Obviously, it is hard to say without assessing you myself. I hope that helps.
