I have the Queen - News Of The World 2015 US HOLLYWOOD 1/2 speed master. It sounds phenomenal! My first store release copy was already stellar. I gifted that to my Grandnephew :-)
Another great informative video. I really appreciate what you do here at Sound matters I need to tell you there have been many companies in the past that have done half speed mastering some would not great success some with there is a pressing of Pink Floyd wish you were here that’s CBS half speed mastering put out you have to be sure to have the right matrix numbers because the first pressing of them the EQ was totally off and then they re-pressed it the right way there’s many cases like this I love groove washer products but I have to tell you with your Ortofon blue do not use the stylist cleaner you will break the suspension on the ortofon, believe me I know from experience so be careful with that
I got my first Two Half Speed Vinyl, 1.- Police GH, 2.- Dire straits, Brothers In Arms, but I have a Question, Why one it reproduces in 33 1/3 an the other in 45 ..?
Because a 45rpm half speed master is the ultimate recording. The faster the rpm, the more info the stylus is picking up per revolution or per second. The slower the RPM the less you'll hear.
You missed a step. The first "copy" is used to make the mother, then the stamper is made. This is to ensure that the master is kept as prestine as possible for as long as possible.....
Overall I have been quite disappointed in the abbey road half speed mastering. Everyone I have bought I have regretted. They sound like they from cds. I have gotten old CBS master sound half speed mastering and love those. The Michael Jackson Thriller is wonderful
There are theoretical advantages for half-speed mastering but there are also drawbacks. I know that the esteemed Kevin Gray believes it's not a good thing: ruclips.net/video/VbVx-e9i1Uk/видео.html From my own experience, I've compared a copy of the (fairly) recent half-speed mastered reissue of "Ghost in the Machine" by The Police and it was handily beaten by an original 1981 UK pressing although admittedly, there are likely to be other factors in addition to the mastering speed here...
This process works.... as long as you do not see Miles Showell in the deadwax.... HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job with the recent Rolling Stones reissues....stay away....stay far away🙉🙉🙉🙉🙉🙉 Keep up the great work on your channel👍
Yeah, no, sorry. Theres almost no half speed master cuts that beat the best normal cut versions of the same title. Heres Kevin Grays take on it: ruclips.net/video/VbVx-e9i1Uk/видео.html Reposting from another video: As far as I know, half speed didnt birth out of ambition to search for higher fidelity directly, but to solve a problem of cutting head overheating and began at Decca in the 60s. Stan Ricker then tried to sell people on the idea that Half Speed sounded better in the 70s. So I would hardly agree that "Time" and "Money" are the main reasons its not used. It requires a very different understanding of what to listen for, loses an octave in the spectrum which needs to be EQ adjusted for and doesnt seem to produce as good sounding records as it should if everything said about it was true. I can hardly find a half speed cut that beats a standard cutting from a renowned mastering engineer. The only company having some success with it is MFSL, mainly in the 2010s and onwards. But Im pretty sure MFSL stopped doing half speed cutting when Stan Ricker died which is, you guessed it, in the 2010s. Overall, mostly a gimmick in my eyes.

Turntable speed is still 33 RPM or 16 RPM??
Still 33 or 45 - depending on how the record was cut

Abbery Road cuts by Miles Showell are indeed not that great to me. Ive never heard a single half speed cut from him which beats an original pressing.
Cds sound good wdym
@@socaranectien1933 Some saps don't like "cd sound vinyl". Makes no sense, but that's how they are.
@@leon9021 have you heard the Miles cut of 'Tommy' by The Who? I've read many good things and am intending to get a copy this weekend
@@jameshogg11 No, Id get an original UK or Classic Records instead.
Can you explain that again at half speed?
Hate Abbey Road 1/2 speed masters - digital and lack any air

If half speed is better, then quarter speed should be killer and one eight speed stellar, right?
