Nice tutorials. Former Wushu athlete here, from Greece, took part in Group B competitions. I still have a nandao with which the obi ani came easy to me for both hands, with the 1st try, separately, as it reminded me some spins of it in the forms I was practicing at the Wushu class years ago. I guess nandao is double the weight of a lightsaber if not more, so I intentionally practice the spins relatively slowly to get used to the feeling of spin and precision again.

A piece of broom handle is great to start with. You can also use a piece of shovel handle for a larger diameter and weight, if you're up for it. Just make sure to sand it well, and a good wood finish on it is recommended also. Just cut them to whatever length is comfortable for you and sand the ends.
