Watching this I remembered that I have a Christmas placemat. What a cute idea for holding Christmas cards.
I love these quick projects. They turn out so nice.
Some of the placemats even come with a little pocket (for silverware), that would end up on the inside or outside of the basket! So cute and quick!
I have made all your bags! Thanks for all of them. Thanks for getting right into your videos and not playing music while sharing. You’re awesome.
Just bought 6 placemats!!! Now I know what I’m going to make with them!!! Thanks for this EASY project!
I made mine and looks very nice. I couldn't sew to the thick border at the corner edge but looks ok because of the ruffle design.
And don't throw away the trimmed edge when making the box corners. I ripped the stitches and trimmed them for pull tabs for other projects.
Clever idea. Fantastic.
YOu can't even buy the fabric, lining, or pom pom's for that price in order to get these cute little baskets! I love it! Thank you!
I know that this aired in 2018, but this is perfect for me as a beginner. Thank you for sharing.
I absolutely love your ideas
I love placemat sewing projects, and these placemats by Pioneer Woman are PERFECT for this project. Many thanks!
Love this idea!! I totally bought every placemat from the goodwill store...super cheap project!!
Thanks Lorrie again. Every time I watch one of your video's I always have to go out & buy the items, but this time I don't! I have extra placemats this time. You are a very good enabler!
If you don't want to cut off the triangles, you can fold them up the sides, matching the seams and tack with a couple of stitches and the bag will be a little more firm and stand a little stiffer. Great basket idea and so fast and easy.
Lorrie, This idea is so awesome!! I have been making clutch purses out of place mats for a while now but, never ever thought of making these. They are awesome. I am redoing my craft area in my bedroom and I was going to buy some fabric already made boxes for scraps and ribbons and other notions but, I would much rather make them now. Your video is about a year old, I hope Walmart will still have some of the Pioneer Woman placemats with the pompoms but, if they don't I will go to the fabric store and buy a pkg of seam tape pompoms. My fabric store has them in all one color or many covers hooked to the same seam tape. I was thinking about making a scarf for myself with light weight cotton and a pompom boarder. A store in my neck of the woods called Top It Off have the same scarfs for $15 and I know I can make one. My grandmother had a fabric store and when she passed away my mother being the only girl with 4 brothers inherited lots and lots of fabric. I started sewing when I was 5 and started beading when I was 9. Anyway, I am getting off on the beaten path but, these caddys rock!! I have a wonderful Bernina that I love. Also, for you out there that have Pier 1 in your area - some have clearance rooms in the back of their stores and I love their place mats. I often buy them on sale for the top of my toilet tank. I made myself a shower curtain with a surfing type of lined print but, didn't have enough to make a cover for my toilet tank and by accident I found a place mat almost the same type of pattern at Pier 1. Also, my Tuesday Morning has a clearance room too with nice place mats from time to time. Wow!! I cannot wait till payday now to make some of these caddys and I also have a craft sale coming up on April 27th - maybe I can make some of these and borrow some yard from my sister and her knitting needles for a display. And hey, what a great idea with Easter coming up to give a friend one of these to use year round but, with Easter eggs and bunnies in them. Thanks Lorrie - your 8 minute project is awesome!! Sincerely, Rebekah in Alexandria City, VA
Love all these placemat videos! I can’t believe you don’t make quilts! So much fun and satisfaction making quilts for loved ones! But thank you for all your videos! I have made over 200 of your face masks, and everyone says they’re awesome and very professional looking!
If you do not cut the corners off but instead fold them up against the side seam and tack the point
in place it will save a step and add stability.
I believe that is a preference. I tend to cut out a 2" square in the corners, then fold, and sew. I find this easier for me. Everyone does what ever floats their boat.
Good idea!
I just saw this, and yes I agree that tacking corners instead of cutting them off would add some stability. Especially if the box is used a fair amount. Good idea!
dang I just did one and of corner before I saw this. LOL
@@patriot8938 Do you do this in all four corners? , however wont this be smaller and longer . The way your talking it will remain more of a rectangle like a tray, however love our idea too. that is how I make sheets. LOL
Oh my word, YES! These will be perfect for my kitchen!A basket just for my Pioneer Woman cloth napkins and another for my coffee station to hold K-cups! Love this! Thank you for another great tutorial!
I’m hooked!!! Couldn’t find the cute Pom Pom ones, but used the same square “quilt” ones from the other videos. So adorable!!!
You were right! It took about 8 minutes! Thanks again for an awesome tutorial!
this is adorable and so easy even I can do this, I made two headbands and my great grandaughter loves them, just letting you know your not just talking to the air. Thank You
Took me 10 minutes for the first one I bet I’ll get faster on the next one! What a fabulous idea.
Hi Lorrie, For those not used to a lot of sewing, you may want to mention backstitching at the beginning and end of the side seams. Saying just sew off the edge may make some think you're not doing a backstitch. Thanks for the video, made these the other day!
Thanks for this! I just completed 2 using the red polka dot/floral embroidering a 2" initial which I centered 4 12 inches from top edge so that it would be centered while folded. Sure didn't do them in 8 minutes though, ha! ....old machine and I sew like a turtle! Thanks again for the inspirational tutorials!
GSharon McKanna
Great tutorial, i just made three in no time. Love them! I did it just the way she did, didnt want to leave all the bulk in the corners as someone suggested. They are very stable. Thankyou so much
Love this - have already made a few! QUESTION - i break a LOT of needles with this project :-(. Is there a certain gauge needle I should be using?? My sewing machine is not top-of-the-line, but it’s not a cheap one, either. P.S. I recycle my cardboard shipping boxes into rectangular bottom liners for the baskets.
Lovely - thank you for sharing these easy projects.
Thank You Lorrie for this fun project! Can’t wait to give it a try!
So cool❣️✨💖thanks for sharing😘❣️✨
So cute and SO easy! Seriously I don't even know how to sew ( I had to watch a video on how to thread my machine ) but I even made one! Just finished it. Making them for Easter baskets for my daughter and her college friends! Love all of your videos. You are such a great teacher!
Mimi Burns Don't you mean sew cute and sew easy! Haha

I just did this. Love it. Thank you for the idea.
Question - i break a LOT of needles with this project :-(. Is there a certain gauge needle I should be using?? My sewing machine is not top-of-the-line, but it’s not a cheap one, either.
I made 3, 2 exactly like you did with pom pom edging. was fun and easy. I boxed my corner little smaller to get taller. thanks for video. wanted to post pic but don't know how. was fun!!
What a great idea .I will go see if my Walmart has some !
Love this. I've used a placemat to make a tote bag. Yes, it's not very big, but I've used it a lot over the years and recently had to replace the handles because they frayed from use. Thanks, Lorrie.
Looks so easy to make, Ty. I love it. 😉
Wonderful idea! Can't wait to make some out of Christmas place mats for Christmas gifts!
Hi Lorrie, I am a newbie to your channel and am LOVING it, all the way in Johannesburg, South Africa. 🇿🇦 Please keep the inspiration flowing! And I love your pooch on your couch! From Judith 🌷
